What will your verse be? is what Mr. Keating tasked so here goes mine without questions asked.
When they asked the boys did you see it coming? They only replied,
Neither their heart nor their soul was ready for this game of bluff, but it seems as though the punishment wasn't torturous enough.
Neither was the warmth of the fall when we see them grow nor was the chill of the winter snow where their hands and blood ran too cold.
Neither was the hum of the hallways where they walked and stalled nor was the somberness of it when they lost it all.
Neither was the day he set them free, only to later realize he was stuck in the shambles of his own fight to plea.
Neither were the words he said that made a wave, but it was the acts he played which always set the stage.
Neither was it his charming smile or his other worldly wit, but it was his voice that boomed and made everyone sit.
Neither was it the gleam in his eyes, when they opened theirs to see his pride.
Neither was it the ion he showed, which his father couldn't see but they had always known.
Neither was it the desk where he thrived, only for it to turn into a piece of furniture archived.
Neither was it the fault of his hand, which wrote enchanting words but the trigger it couldn't withstand.
Neither was it the wail that he let out, which wasn't heard until the most tranquil hour where he couldn't shout.
Neither were it the moments that had been caved, where the Dead Poets rose, and their souls were saved.
But maybe it was the hour of truth, where they had to speak or it was all in vain of his lost youth.
Of all the words He could utter, they could've moved a mountain,
But what came out was just "Oh Captain, My captain!"

"I think the point is to make us despair. To see ourselves as... animal and ugly. To make us reject the possibility that God could love us."

This movie held open the doors for advance horror genre in cinema and rightfully so, going into this I wasn't expecting to be astounded by the linear and immensely intelligent screenplay, the coldest soundtrack ever, some of the most accurate depiction of medical procedures and probably one of the best child acting I've seen in a while. But it's the actual heart that went in the film that gets you; whether it be the anguish you feel for Regan, Merrin's immovable faith or the sorrow during Damien's soulful sacrifice; none of them felt empty and that's the one thing all it's successors have failed at.
I hope they bring back emotional stakes in horror again because honestly, we're missing out.

I think the way Bong masterfully showcases his best aspects by turning what would've been a mere creature feature into an emotionally driven story about korean families, social class, barbaric politics and the innocent people who face their wrath is so laudable. Sure I could be biased but truly no one would've been able to make me feel so many emotions at the same time; from feeling utterly betrayed in the thrid act to somehow still feeling that hint of sympathy for the host as it tries to escape. If I'm ever ready to give up on life, I would watch a Bong movie and it would probably give me all the reasons I shouldn't yet. Something so brain altering about his stories, I feel lost in these whirlwinds of emotions.
And Mother is just one of them, a story where you feel betrayed by the very characters, he makes you love and root for. Where you think you've found your truth and accepted it, only for it to turn out to be a lie, where the cleverness of the rice symbolism takes you aback and makes you wonder about all the other expertly hidden details. Where you doubt the intentions of his shady bsf only for him to be the biggest baddie in the movie and one of the best characters (his flying kick is just masterful, zero survivors fr). Where I kept looking for clues yet somehow always missing the big picture, where the mom is so selfless that she's concerned about people not eating food but turns icy cold as soon as her son gets involved. Where I thought I understood what sacrifice meant but nothing comes close to getting your hands stained in the most repulsive shade of red just save those closest to you,
And finally, where a mother and son are not afraid to accept each other's jarring and bitter reality. To make me go through such purely staggering, dreadful yet animating set of emotions is exactly what I want from a story.
And BJH, as is his wont, never disappoints.

چرا بهشت را می طلبی پیش من است
"Why seek paradise, it is before me."
-Akbar to Jodhaa

I love to be enamored by the astute beauty of the Bollywood I grew up with, I have very fond memories with this one; be it the first period piece I watched or the fact that this was my sexual awakening (i mean it's Hrithik and Aish on screen together!!)
Revisiting this felt so surreal, I had missed so many lovely details. A big chunk of my life I've been obsessed with this story and Ashutosh G truly does it justice. The way the writing executes such extreme grace, it's not pretentious or flamboyant, it's just subtle enough to be perfect. The delicate Urdu expressions to the strong Hindi ones mesh so well together. The astonishing set design is so apt for the grandeur tale they're telling and it has some of the most charming costume design I've seen in Bolly. Not to mention the soulful acting from everyone single person on screen, they literally slayed so hard.
It would not be a Jodhaa Akbar review if I didn't mention it's heaven above soundtrack. Throughout the runtime of 213 minutes, the sound design is just magnificent, the melodious tunes of "Mann Mohana" are so holy, the ever so iconic "Khwaja Mere Khwaja" that fills the heart with so much love for one's faith and belief. The sweet innocence of being immensely infatuated yet being unable to tell them is displayed beautifully in "Jashn-e-Bahaara". How does one even come up with such insane poetry? Just peak lyricism from Javed Akhtar. As if that wasn't enough, we have "Azeem-O-Shaan" playing while the progeny showers their king with love and blessings, the blending of cultures and numerous dance forms showcases the brilliant diversity and unity of Indian states. But nothing truly beats the most wholesome confession followed by the ardently ionate tunes of "Inn Lamho ke Daman Mein".
Nothing short of perfection in my eyes, just like they say "Jodhaa Akbar's love wasn't a fairytale, it wasn't romanticized, but it was real, and it made history."

"Did you see his face?"
"What did he look like?"
"Well...kind of plain. Ordinary"

I think no one could ever captivate my emotions as well as Bong does, mind you this is only his third film i've watched but i am afraid this might just sur Parasite (which is my absolute religion) i am afraid that the true unruly and nihilistic nature of this film has made me fall in love with it, i am afraid that the Gyunggi murders will always stay with me like a bad memory, that the way the lives of these regular detectives turned into a nightmare which woke them up one day to the series of such unfortunate events in their lovely village will always break my heart. I am afraid every time they tamper with the evidence or breach the crime scene or fight each other instead of the bigger battle will always shred my nerves yet i am afraid that no matter how many times they fuck up i will somehow always have faith in Do-man and his guys. The lives of these detectives are so delicate that i am afraid of the tragic spiral they go down where one loses his leg while the other watches an innocent bystander die because their lives truly hold no purpose other than solving this case. I am so afraid of the way Tae-yoon flinched as if he could feel the pain of that old band-aid ripping off her skin hurt him as it should've hurt her will always bring a sob out of me. I am afraid how they were so close yet so far away from their perp, that the way Tae-yoon decides to believe the documents are a lie and he doesn't need them anymore will always emotionally wreck me. I am afraid of the moment where Do-man could not tell the truth by looking at him straight in his eyes anymore but most of all I am still afraid how there is a handsome yet ordinary looking man with soft hands who walks free, terrorizing the qaint streets of Gyunggi when it rains as the sweet tunes of "a gloomy letter" plays on the radio but lastly
I think I'll always be afraid of the way he returns after 17 years to look back on his "memories of murder".

AHHHHHH!!
There are very few thrillers that get to me and since i was on a roll i decided to watch this on a random monday night and i am shook, to say the very least. The Wailing brings out everything i love in a horror/thriller so perfectly, the eerie small towns, slow burn descent into the lore, local folklore tales and the most epic of them all, KOREAN SHAMANS truly the loveliest, most unhinged, chaotic bunch of people frr!
this could have been alright without all the emotional stakes, but it was all those moments we share with Jong-goo and his family, their fervent desperation to go to such colossal and heartbreaking lengths to save their daughter. The inner turmoil of Yi-sam as he begins to question his own faith, that compels him to learn the truth no matter what in the end. The way the woman too, even after being doubted and suspected, they show all the snares she had been laying out since the very beginning, to save the villagers from the wrath, is absolutely tragic. Not to mention our very own jap bro who had me crying for him, the way they managed to humanize him in those moments is absolutely bonkers. I can't believe I fell for it, but ig it wouldn't have hit me the same if i hadn't empathized with him, made the twist so fucking better.
did i mention this has Korean shamans? oh i did. Well, what a lovely movie, spent the night being wholly traumatized yayy :)))

Les Chambres Rouges, ohh I was immensely looking forward to this and to my very pleasant surprise, it delivered. A gripping descent into darkness, told in the most subtle yet gruesome way possible, Kelly-Anne is problematic, selfish, arrogant and obsessed with a serial killer case (she's just a girl 🎀), Her unhingedness clearly knows no bounds. But where does interest end and obsession begins; This whole ordeal of serving justice and trying to put Chevalier behind bars, she was really working her ass off, kudos to you girly! (maybe don't tres the next time?)
On a more serious note, I love how no matter how much I wish to see what's on those tapes, call it mere curiosity or to just inflict that sort of visual torture on myself, this movie draws that inarguably thin line between thinking you want this yet knowing you'll never be the same again. Clementine ate up this dilemma up, I could not help but feel guilty everytime I wanted the camera to pan to the computer screen instead of their heartbreaking faces. The spine-chilling shrieks, the build-up to THE eye , the sound design was so perfect. I am very numb to a lot of fucked up stuff but somehow this one seemed to have called me out on that and it left me feeling so overwhelmed? weirdest feeling ever lol

Abhimaan is a beautifully curated love story of two singers, who wholeheartedly adore music and each other. The way we go from Subir's youthful vocals in the beginning with "Meet na mila re mann ka" to then several tracks laying down their foundation of love with "Teri bindiya" and "Ab toh hai tumse sab khushi apni". Finally coming to with Uma's grief as she sings "Piya bina" during their heartbreak then as their graceful unison takes place with the ever so melodious "Tere mere Milan ki yeh raina" marks the perfect end to this story filled with so much soul.

Sat down w mom to watch the iconic love triangle that shook the core of bolly industry, they really said 'we don't separate the art from the artists' ◉‿◉
Silsila shows the raw nature of being in love; the infatuation, the pure ion, the greediness, the deceit and delusion and worst of all, the loss. It tells us how when one person turns reckless in a marriage the other holds the boat and rides the waves alone, waiting for their partner to come back to them, Shobha and Dr.Anand showcased such profound trust and sacrifice even when the other two didn't deserve it. The third act really doesn't do them justice with the rushed up redemption for both Amit and Chandni, would've like more grovelling from them but nonetheless, I'm a sucker for some of the most bewitching scenery I've seen in an 80s baby; the autumn leaves, Srinagar's tulips, prettiest Holi celebration and the epic soundtrack with bangers like "Dekha ek khwaab" , "Yeh kahan aa gye hum" not to mention the ever so iconic "Rang barse bheegey" big foreshadowing song btw I had no idea the lyrics were deep asf 😭

a somber tale of honing music but not just any music, shastriya sangeet; the "eternal music". From the long poetic sequences of sharad's taal performances to the looming, dullness of his life around learning it, is so beautifully captured. Absolutely loved The inter-personal power dynamic of a student and his guru and how he exploits that said power, Maai's eerie vocals as we stroll through Mumbai streets, Sharad's own sense of idolism for his apparent masters that blinds him and the final growth of this once impatient, ionate student who turns into an adult with a talent for divine music that he gets to share as a guru himself.

You have forgotten who you are, and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the circle of life.

I always think I'm prepared for what's to come when watching this epic movie but it ceases to amaze me everytime. And on this Nth watch, the insanely alluring soundtrack instantly wrecked me. The way it opens with "circle of life" playing as Simba takes his place as the heir, truly nothing more iconic than that prologue. It moves onto Simba being his utmost playful and animatedly excited self during "I just can't wait to be King". Jeremy Irons' sinister chords as Scar lays down the heinous and unruly "Be prepared" *chills literal chills*. The evergreen "Hakuna Matata" coming to Simba's rescue at the right time. Then the way "Can you feel the love tonight" turns the reunion between Simba and Nala into the most soulful moment. Also, ancestors in the stars is probably my fav genre (Simba yelling "don't leave me" to Mufasa's ghost ಥ_ಥ)
I still my brother asking me 'what's Zimmer's best work?' and if I had not been sucha huge DUNE fan, this would def take the cup.
P.s. Mufasa altered my brain chemistry when I first saw this now i know why, JEJ voiced him omfgg! bro's a legend 😭✊

Vengeance won't change the past, mine or anyone else's. I have to become more. People need hope. To know someone's out there for them.

this is my 3rd watch since this baby came out and I only see that amount increasing. So much of this I thought I only enjoyed because of the aesthetic and the goth-y, gritty world it pulls you in but I realised it's so much more than that. I love how Patty's Bruce is very raw, insecure, angry at his world and impulsive in his decisions rather than Chris' very smug and stand off-ish one, Mr. Add-another-table-I-own-the-place. 😭
He makes me feel sorry for him, this isolation of being an orphan, scared of attachments and of losing someone he loves even though he's a billionaire but you see it's just money laughing in his face. Paul is amazing as Riddler, tho the riddles do get tedious as the movie goes on but oh wth I enjoyed it, his delivery, his motives, his following, everything had an impact. The way he talks about winters at the orphanage is spine-chilling, so well fucking done. Overall, I'm just a sucker for dark academia aesthetic in movies and this gave me exactly that!

Speed. Faster than fast, quicker than quick. I am Lightning.

All those McQueen edits and nostalgia made me and my brother watch this on a random Tuesday night and boy did this hold up!! I did some iconic scenes but omg never did I think an almost coming-of-age, brat learning his lessons from an old school legend sports movie would move me sm, all the dialogues just flow so naturally, McQueen is sweet and thoughtful with loserboy rizz, Mater being the ultimate comic relief and the best mate (mate-r for a reason <33), Sally oh lord have mercy bi-panic fr and Doc is just good ol Doc not to mention the literally high wagon omgg lovethatguyy.
So much love and heart went into every character here and the ending just reminds you if you're unkind, you might win the trophy but not their hearts because at the end of the day

watching Miles come such a long way from accepting his role as spidey in his world then having his own existence shattered within just a few minutes, I could legit feel my heart break when Miguel shouted "you're a mistake!" in his face, the hurt in his eyes, the betrayal from Gwen and Peter, the canon event ⁉️ Everything reminds me of a hero's fate, how they can't change the prophecy no matter how many times they try and only fewer succeed 。:゚(;´∩`;)゚:。

I love everything about thiss- the subtle character introductions which never feels forced, Geet and Aditya's insanely wholesome chemistry, Geet ranting about anything and everything, the soundtrack THE FUCKING SOUNDTRACK ahh all the feels, the way mom reminds me of that one video of me dancing on "yeh Ishq hai" when I was 8 ( I had an intense Bebo phase (*˘︶˘*).。*♡), the moment when Aditya finds Geet in Shimla on the street yet somehow we don't pay attention to the randomness of it because of the beautiful " aaoge jab tum" playing in the background, the feelings he has for her are so earnest he can't help but accept them and confess to her whilst wanting nothing in return from her 😭, the way no matter how many times Geet runs away Aditya will always find her and get her home because it's not about the destination it's always about the person. This review may contain spoilers.

"You shall die. You may see. The beauty and the horror."

They say the problem is that you feel too much but how can I not? When the opening scene captivated me with the out of world "Beginnings Are Such A Delicate Time" playing in the background, with the harkonnens doing that one thing yes, that! blew. my. mind, with Paul trying so hard to go against his fate by wanting to help out not because he's meant to but because he wants to, he belongs there and he knows it.

So how can I not sob in the theatre? When he's learning their ways, their language, which seems like his own but doesn't. When he rides the shai-hulud and the music starts to swell when he stands up! When he does a whole 180 and you sit there, watching him, with tears flowing and gasping for breath because he betrayed you. But your heart aches for him and his choices or lack thereof.

How can I forget? The way Chani felt seeing him laying there, so still, how she knew what her actions would bring forth but she has to do it. So heartbreaking yet strong, Sihaya is a curse for herself but she embraces it for him. The way she picked to fight for her people rather than him.

How can I not obsess? Over the infra-red transition while "Harkonnen Arena" starts and camera pans over the grandness of it all then showing their blackened sun overhead, over Feyd-rautha being his utmost 'ruth'less self, over his voice and every word he says that send shivers down my spine.

How can I not fall in love? With my queen, Irulean, so wise, so eloquent with such mighty screen presence. With Lady Jessica, making me gawk over her terrifying line deliveries. With Stilgar being the most wholesome cinnamon ball in this nitty gritty world, protect him!! He had no reason to go that hard with the comedic timing oof!

Ultimately, how can I not feel too much? When after 4 years I went to the theatres with my favourite person on the planet to witness this majestic masterpiece. It's a core memory now, sitting in IMAX, watching Dune part 2 and crying my heart out because honestly, what a time to be alive!
