“Know you can take care of yourself, but it sometimes helps to have friends with influence. Something you will learn.” —Peter Ferdinando as Dennis Spencer

•••MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH•••

💎 TRULY HIDDEN-GEM. UNDERRATED. A MASTERPIECE. ABSOLUTE CINEMA ❤️

I’ve seen a lot of prison films with chaos, violence, gang wars, and personal struggles. But “Starred Up” feels completely different. It’s intense and raw. Really! Truly didn’t expect a prison film to hit this hard emotionally. The script is so bold and out of the box. It’s full of violence, but it balances brutality with vulnerability in a way I rarely see.

What shocked me was how the film used “group therapy as a storytelling tool”. Those scenes where the inmates sit in a circle, led by Rupert Friend’s character, hit me harder than any fight or scream. It wasn’t just about “healing”. It was about “control, pain, ego, and survival”. Honestly, I honestly hink those scenes were the heart of the film.

Jack O’Connell delivers one of the most intense performances I’ve ever seen. What an explosive performance! Every second he’s on screen feels like something dangerous. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. And Ben Mendelsohn, playing his father, that’s the emotional damage really hit me. He is so broken, and so scary all at once. Their relationship is complicated, and I really like how scrip explored that.

What’s wild is that I’m also still watching “Loudermilk” right now, which uses the same “circle therapy” tool, but in a different tone. That made me appreciate “Starred Up” even more. Both stories show how powerful it is when people sit down and actually confront their pain. One makes you laugh, the other leaves you shaken. ☹️💔

By the end, I felt like I had just been through group therapy myself. And honestly, I kind of needed that.

“Maybe with good luck we'll find what eluded us in the places we once called home.” —Jeffrey Wright as Roebuck Wright

—Before THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME—

I really wanted to enjoy this one, but it just didn’t land the way Wes Anderson’s other films usually do for me. Visually, it’s stunning. Every frame is wonderful, with his usual precision. But as the stories went on, I felt more impressed than actually connected. The anthology format made it harder to care, and even with all the details, it didn’t have the heart that made The Grand Budapest Hotel so memorable.

Benicio del Toro was the highlight. His performance as the troubled artist added some real emotion to a film that often felt more concerned with style than feeling.

I’m submitting a complaint, exercising my rights as a citizen, that makes me a criminal? [Argentinas>English]”—Ricardo Darín as Simón Fischer—

Six stories, one theme : Mix of madness, revenge, dark comedy, absurd tragedy, and satisfying chaos.

DAMN! 😭
I didn’t expect “Wild Tales” to be “super wild” journey. This movie turns small people problems—because money, injustice, and ego—, into explosive and darkly funny stories. It’s like “Triangle of Sadness” or “Freaky Tales”, but wilder and even more out of control. And yes, this is a total hidden gem.

This movie is made up of 6 segments : Pasternak, The Rats, Road to Hell, Bombita, The Deal, and Till Death Do Us Part. But, the two most memorable segments for me are Road to Hell and Till Death Do Us Part.

In “Road to Hell, a “head-to-head” between Diego (Leonardo Sbaraglia) and Mario (Walter Donado) in the most intense and ridiculous bridge show I’ve ever seen. And “Till Death Do Us Part” follows Romina (Érica Rivas), a bride who finds out her groom Ariel (Diego Gentile) cheated—during the wedding. Their performace was messy, emotional, and completely unforgettable. 💯🔥💥

This film completely stunned. The direction, the pacing, the writing are brilliantly. The cinematography keeps things visually tense and the music perfect too.

It’s smart, chaotic, and relatable.

“I just feel like the universe is like taking a grip and it’s easing me apart, like my torso is being levered apart with tremendous force and the emptiness of galaxies is just like rushing in.” —Cory Michael Smith as Venn

Big Succession Fan ☝🏻
My expectations were high

——————————————————————————
Jesse Armstrong’s Mountainhead feels like an another version of the world he explored in Succession, but this time with tech billionaires and an AI theme. The premise is pretty good—a satire comedy about AI and digital future. But sadly, this one didn’t hit as hard as I hoped. The concept is solid, but the execution is too complicated.

The vibe brought me right back to Succession —cold settings, tense music, and that same feeling. A few strong moments, and some beautiful Succession-like atmosphere. I felt nostalgic right away. It made me miss the show, but again… not enough.

At least, the performances help carry the film. All four actors are talented. Steve Carell and Ramy Youssef are impressive. But still, I struggled to fully get into it. The third act is ridiculous, and I’m a bit tired of the whole storyline.

Honestly, I was really excited for this because of the cast and Armstrong’s team. But in the end, it just didn’t connect with me.

Disappointed.

“We live and die in the shadows for those we hold close and for those we never meet.”—Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt

•••after more than two weeks of avoiding spoilers and trying to find the right time—work schedule priority, I finally watched it•••

First of all. Let’s talk about my special cameos—“MINDHUNTER” and “TED LASSO” mentioned here!
Hannah Waddingham (my Ted Lasso’s queen!) and especially Holt McCallany (my Detective From Mindhunter!). Seeing them in this franchise? Loved it. Just… perfect! 🫶🏻

Alright,
I thought “MI: The Final Reckoning” is a tribute and a love letter to this franchise—maybe even Tom Cruise’s “last dance” as Ethan Hunt. From deep underwater dives, holding my breath through tight spaces, getting trapped in a submarine, to hanging on a moving plane—every single scene hit my expectations. Truly emotional weight this time. 🥺

What impressed me most was how well this film connects the entire Mission: Impossible journey. The callbacks to MI 1, 2, 3, and threads from Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, Fallout, and Dead Reckoning, it all connected here. Like what Marvel did for AVENGERS: Endgame, this movie gives longtime fans a true emotional nostalgic. ❤️

Tom Cruise proves once again that he is Ethan Hunt. Hayley Atwell is brilliant as Grace. She is smart, fast, unpredictable. Ving Rhames [🥀], Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Angela Bassett, etc,. And if this is the end of the ride for Ethan Hunt… then all I can say is :

Thank you, MrTom Cruise. Thank you for his impossible stunts, his commitment, and thank you for making each mission unforgettable.

What a cinema, HUNT!

Then, that rooftop tap dance… Still magic! ❤️

“Last time I seen my brother. Last time I seen the sun. And just for a few hours.. we was free.” —Michael B. Jordan as Stack/Smoke—

[This was my last movie for May, and honestly, what a way to close the month.]

Ryan Coogler really cooked with this movies. The concept feels fresh. The execution feels even fresher. His style, his direction, and the care he puts into telling a story with depth. It’s emotional and a perfect blend of action and soul.

Now the cast. Michael B. Jordan is just too good. He looks cool like always, but here he plays two different characters—and both of them feel so different. That’s real talent right there. And then Hailee Steinfeld. She brings beauty, elegance, and power. She feels calm but strong, and she gives the story a soft but deep emotion. Next, Miles Caton. That voice is so f*cking smooth and charming, he fits right into the vibe of the film. And then there’s Jack O’Connell as Remmick—he’s scary in the best way. His face, his eyes, the way he moves… it’s creepy and intense. He makes the movie feel dangerous.

Visually, the movie is stunning. The cinematography is beautiful with wide landscapes, rich colors, and moody lighting that fits the story perfectly. The music and dance scenes really stand out. And I gotta say, the vampire makeup is on point. It looks great without being too much. It’s just creepy AF.

If I had one issue, it’s the vampire backstory. The film gives small hints, but never fully explains where they come from or how it all works. It feels a little grey, like it’s being saved for later.

And now I know why—Sinners 2 is confirmed. So maybe that mystery will finally get answered in the next one. I’m definitely looking forward to it.

Best 2025 HOROR MOVIE— so far.

Alright.
It’s got Barbarian vibes mixed with Happy Death Day and Triangle, time loop, death-reset chaos. Nothing new, but the way it’s done is still feels fresh.

The plot moves fast, almost too fast, but it still feels clean. No time wasted. The acting is kinda off at times, especially Max, like bro, are you okay? But somehow that awkward energy fits the vibes. And the jump scares? I thought they work. Not just cheap ones, some actually got me.

“Something smell’s good. That is the exotic aroma of danger. But if you’re here and I’n not dead, is this a date?”—John Krasinski as Luke Purdue

Guy Ritchie is BACK, baby!

After rewatchingSnatch” a couple of days ago (still a certified banger by the way), “Fountain of Youth” finally drops and I was more than ready for this one. Guy Ritchie is doing his thing again—very Ritchie, very fun.

The reason I watch? Easy: the cast and the director. John Krasinski is the main man here. Natalie Portman s as Charlotte—his sister and a museum curator—smart, stealing scenes. Their sibling chemistry works, not too forced, but warm enough. Also, Eiza González shows up to bring some heat to the action sequences—the fight scenes were kinda basic. Not bad.

The plot? Classic treasure hunt setup: ancient maps, family secrets, traps. It’s like Indiana Jones spirit but in Ritchie’s style. The editing is fast, the soundtrack hits, and the camera editing is cool.

Fountain of Youth is fun, breezy, and made with just enough heart to keep me in it. It’s not Snatch-level iconic, but it’s a good time with a good cast and a director who still knows how to keep things cool without overcooking it.

“You worry about getting me what I want, I'll worry about myself.” —Benicio Del Toro as Javier Rodriguez

First of all, Benicio Del Toro is the heart of this film. He barely speaks sometimes, but I feel everything through his eyes—especially after his partner gets shot. That moment hit hard. Easily one of the best performances I’ve seen. No surprise he won an OSCAR for it.

I didn’t expect Traffic to be this deep. Thought it was just another crime drama, but turns out it’s a serious, complicated look at the drug war. It’s not easy to follow at first—three storylines, a lot perspective, different languages. But once I got into it, I was hooked.

Michael Douglas also stood out. His character goes from being a powerful government guy to just a father trying to save his daughter. The way his story ends—quiet, personal, and real.

Carlos Ayala’s part was a bit hard to follow, but he had this strong presence that made me curious. Meanwhile, Helena’s character goes through a wild change—from innocent to totally in control. She’s sharp and cold, and it works.

And the ending? Not a cliffhanger, not exactly happy either—but it works. It’s like each character finds their own kind of closure, even if it’s messy or incomplete. Like life.

Definitely not an eazy film, but worth to watch.

“Imagine. A box of useless shit, souvenirs. I am not giving Morag a shoebox again; and I’m not losing two divers today.”—Woody Harrelson as Duncan Alcock—

Alright, the final third arc really hits me—emotional stuff.

There’s a strong emotional vibe running through this film, especially in the scenes where Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu are waiting—hoping—for a response from Finn Cole. It’s literally a life-or-death moment, and the entire crew feels like they’re holding on to the meaning behind the title: Last Breath.

Yeah, the plot’s pretty basic and honestly a bit too fast in getting to its climax. And than, this film skips giving me proper backstories for the other divers—only Finn Cole gets the spotlight. It’s a bit of a miss, but the main emotional still lands well by the end.

What really carries the whole thing is the chemistry between the characters—it’s the true heartbeat of the film.

tbh. This is my fav genre ❤️
It reminds me of Ron Howard’s film and series Thirteen Lives.❤️

Just rewatched The Fall Guy—this time the EXTENDED VERSION—and WOW, it completely hit my expectations 🔥

Coming back to this action-comedy with 20 extra minutes (a solid 2.5 hours)—totally worth it. One major reason? Seeing Ryan Gosling casually play a Taylor Swift song in his car; LOL 😂—and yes, that happened. But seriously, this version gave me everything I wanted: more chaos, more stunts, more heart.

The cast? Perfect. Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, and that surprise Jason Momoa cameo at the end—they all carried this movie effortlessly.

Sure, the plot isn’t anything revolutionary, but the way it blends action, comedy, and romance is just so well executed. It never once feels like “just another action flick.”

And let’s talk about the soundtrack. Yes… THE SOUNDTRACK. Absolute fire 🔥 It absolutely makes the movie. “A Man Without Love”? Perfectly paired with Gosling’s whole “literally me 😎” energy. Every track adds a heartbeat to the scenes, making them hit just right.

This film just gets what entertainment is supposed to be. And this extended cut doesn’t just add runtime—it adds joy. The Fall Guy fully embraces the fun, and I was all in.

Two legends, two timelines—one rises, one falls.
The Godfather Part II’ hits harder than the first.

I didn’t expect to love this film more than the first, but I really did—It’s more emotional, more painful.
Al Pacino gives a chilling performance as Michael, a man who wins every battle but loses his soul. He delivers one of his coldest performances ever. Robert De Niro as young Vito is pure charisma. Quiet, cool, calm, dangerous. He nailed the screen without needing many words. Idk but his performance here reminds me of Christian Bale in ‘American Psycho’—mix of charm and hidden danger. I’ve seen De Niro in ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘Heat’—where he fight with Al Pacino. But here, as young Vito Corleone? Pure class.

He deserved that Oscar-Best ing Actor🏆

More than just being brutal, it’s about how people can change. Edward Norton is seriously amazing in this movie—just as great as he was in Fight Club (but yeah, Fight Club still tops it for me).

The movie brings up some heavy, sensitive stuff—racism, hate, and violence. Some scenes are pretty intense (I was low-key shocked at the prison shower scene), but that’s the reality it wants to show.

To be honest, I’ve been trying for years to avoid spoilers of what The Godfather is really about. I just wanted to experience it. And WOW ! About a quarter into the movie, it finally hit me—this is why it’s a masterpiece.

Al Pacino’s character arc in The Godfather is one of the most powerful I’ve ever seen. Michael Corleone starts as soft-spoken son—transformed into a cold person at the end. Damn! And that final moment when Al Pacino explodes at his wife? PEAK CINEMA.

The core conflict is so interesting, so tense, and so incredibly well-built. It’s political, personal, and never lets you go. I really love it. Every bit of it—The pacing and the dialogue. And the acting? Pure amazing. I’ll be watching Part II very soon.

Dark, political, tragic, powerful, unforgettable ❤️

Yeah! Joel Coen and Ethan Coen again! 😭❤️
You’re seriously my fav directors. “Inside Llewyn Davis”, that one is actually in my top 4 Coen-Brother films on Letterboxd. Might just it soon.

So cozy to watch from start to finish, just visually soothing. No wonder Fargo’s color grading felt familiar—Inside Llewyn Davis mentioned. And the opening music? Totally eyegasm. That melancholic score + the quiet snowy town—It all blends perfectly into the film’s atmosphere—cold, but beautiful.

This one is got all the dark-comedy-drama, a messed-up kidnapping, blood, tension—but what really hooked me was the script. The dialogue is smart but chill, never trying too hard. And the humor? Super low-key but seriously funny. s McDormand nails it, no surprise. And man, Steve Buscemi, William H. Macy, and Peter Stormare? They absolutely killed it. Great script + amazing acting.

Oh, and the snowy views? So good. Just makes everything look cooler—but warm.

Loved it! ❤️

“Part of me was afraid of what I would find and what I would do when I got there. I knew the risks. But the thing I felt the most, much stronger than fear, was the desire to confront him.”—Martin Sheen as Capt. Benjamin Williard

Just amazed—i can’t believe something this realistic and intense was made in 1979. I don’t think this is just about a war movie. There’s something deeper, more madness, and good purpose.

The first hour is straight-up war chaos, especially in the way Captain Willard delivers his thoughts. It feels like every line is loaded with meaning. And when Colonel Kurtz finally shows up, he’s more like a cult figure than a soldier.

Every part of the film—cinematography, sound-design, make-up—is next level. It all blends in perfectly with Coppola’s vision. The Director really knew what he was doing.

A wild journey!

Another folk music movies—yup, still into it.
After A Complete Unknown, this one came at the right time. Still got that charm. Kinda like The Banshees of Inisherin but more beachy vibes. The landscapes?—Breathtaking. The coastline, the waves, the quiet beaches, the sunsets—so damn pretty and peaceful. Warm and melancholic. ❤️

It’s about “memory and innocence”. Tom Basden plays the emotionally character, Carey Mulligan is quietly heartbreaking, and Tim Key? Man’s a mystery—so innocent. Unreadable. But unfortunately, the emotional punch don’t always land.

Not Inside Llewyn Davis level, but pretty good.

“I need more morphine, man. It’s not enough. I’m telling you, it’s not enough.” —Joseph Quinn as Sam

One place, One mission.
Two squads, Two wounded soldiers.

A24 Alex Garland’s movie! Truly intense.
It definitely reminded me of Saving Private Ryan—but let’s be honest, “SPR still stands on another level. Spielberg’s film had an emotional weight and sharper character. Warfare 2025 isn’t quite there, but it does have its own edge. It’s tighter, more focused, more about the ticking clock than the war itself.

The cast lineup?—Gorgeous and talented. Will Poulter’s leadership are awesome. Joseph Quinn as Sam is raw—his pain, especially during that moaning moment, hits like a punch.D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai as Ray brings steady, quiet strength, especially when he tends to Sam. That emotional beat? Totally got me.

The tank bomb at minute 40? Brutal. The “Inaudible moment”—pure tension 😭 And the “Morphine morphine morphine” chaos was wild—made my chest tighten.

Well..
The set-up is simple, but the tension? It builds fast and hard. The sound-design and editing are just spectacular! Some beats felt familiar—war tropes we’ve seen before—but there’s heart in this.

Negan
—sorry, Jeffrey Dean Morgan—is back! He shows up not with a baseball bat this time[☠️😂]but playing Ed Deerman, a retired security guy who teams up with Jack Quaid—who plays a man struggling with intense hallucinations—to solve a kidnapping case. Wild combo, but it works.

The movie’s got a cool concept, solid pace with 90 minutes duration and honestly? It’s executed pretty well. Nothing too groundbreaking, but it keeps me interest. Jack Quaid is seriously great here—this might be one of his best performances. And Morgan? Total pro. The chemistry between them is the soul of the film, and it really carries the whole thing.

🏆 ACADEMY AWARDS FOR BEST SHORT FILM (Live Action)

Wes Anderson does it again—with stunning property sets, stunning color composition, and magical touch that only he can deliver. His loyal actor (Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, etc.) returns, but Benedict Cumberbatch steals the show—super engaging and nails the role in every scene.

The storytelling is stylish, but sometimes it talks more than it needs to—like reading a beautiful illustrate book out loud for too long. Still, Part 1 (Henry Sugar) and Part 4 (Poison) are clear standouts—tense and brilliant. The other part/segments, while slower, are still rich with Anderson’s style.

“The only people that go to this much trouble are professionals, not luggage thieves and not punks!” —Bruce Willis as John McClane

Yippee-ki-yay, Airport edition!

Did I enjoy the “Just like the first one, but in an airport” vibes? POSITIVE!
John McClane is back and the universe said:
“What if we gave him less space and more snow?”
Oh come on, dude. McClane deserves a break, and I deserve a sequel where he finally gets one.
Unlogic, irrelevant plot, but 100% Bruce Willis’s vibes. And the villains are totally jacked.

There’s a snowstorm, there’s gunfire, there’s an explosion, there’s an iconic line—
Yippee-ki-yay—
BOOM.
FIRE.
HEART.

This movie doesn’t make sense.
But it explodes so loud 🔥❤️

3.5/5— kept 4 for the ✨cinematic chaos✨.

Die Hard 51642k 1988 - ★★★★½ https://letterboxd.conexionsite.com/agoldfish/film/die-hard/ letterboxd-review-856121077 Mon, 7 Apr 2025 16:27:55 +1200 2025-04-07 No Die Hard 1988 4.5 562 <![CDATA[

“After you get where you’re going, take off your shoes and socks. Then you walk around on the rug barefoot and make fists with your toes.” —don’t ask me who came up with that—

Yippee-ki-yay!
So yeah, I watched Die Hard because President Cal Bradford (aka James Marsden in Hulu’s Series called: Paradise Season 1) told me to. I know, I’m that easy to persuade. But honestly? I just needed to hear that line with my own ears. And yup—it totally delivered. 🔥🎬

Turns out he was right—Die Hard slaps.
This isn’t just an action movie—it’s the action movie!
Bruce Willis climbs through vents, with a tank top, while Alan Rickman’s Hans Gruber is the kind of villain who steals the scene. Peak villain vibes.

Explosions. Christmas. A Skyscraper? It’s iconic and classic! And—Die Hard kinda reminded me of Heat—they both have that raw, cool energy.

4.5 stars because McClane didn’t get a pair of shoes the entire film. Justice for his feet 🙏🏻

“Now I don't mind what you two did. You saved lives. But don't ever fuck with my marriage again.” —Cate Blanchett as Kathryn St. Jean—

Wow!
Can’t believe that Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett deliver powerful performance! REALLY LOVE THEIR CHEMISTRY. Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan were remarkable good actors.

Overall this “Black Bag” is worth to watch, especially for those who enjoy psychological thrillers. The film is strength rests in the precision and depth of its dialogue, which drives the narrative forward.

Well, now, I just want to know how the Monkey did it. I mean “THE NIGHTMARE” 🔥
