pride month 2025 #4

the most a movie has rattled me in recent memory? it almost exclusively lies on Jonathan Capdevielle (with some additional voices and suiting music) so this could've been disastrous but he nailed it. for better or worse, lmao.

probably the best of the Dennis Cooper adaptations i've seen when looking at it strictly through that lens.

Really don’t know why it took be so long to check this out, but I’m glad I finally did. A little predictable but soooo feel good, made me cry a lot. Emilia Jones was so good, I need her cast in more things.

the great watchlist shuffle #32

Gong Seung-yeon was wonderful and i liked the visuals a ton. there were these flashes of fantasy or magical realism elements that poked through here and there which went a long way to help this from blending in among similar fare?

an amazing debut for Hong Sung-eun, hoping to try her next film very soon.

The Sadness

The Sadness reminded me a lot of The Crazies, that is if The Crazies were on some form of Methamphetamine because this is one hell of a depraved, warped and ultra violent fucked up pandemic era work of cinema.

Surely the amount of blood in this brutal Taiwanese horror film has exceeded 2013s Evil Dead?

If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power was one of my favorite records of 2021 (and the first one from Halsey that i liked as a full body of work vs just taking a few songs, at that) so i'm not sure why it took me so long to get around to sitting with this.

i wasn't 100% clear where this sat in of being a visual companion piece to the album vs its own thing which ended…

i loved Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and George MacKay in the feature film (and that was about it 💀) but i cannot believe how much of an improvement this was almost across the board given that it was an earlier version with the same directors involved. ESPECIALLY the climax. truly baffling to me that they had what they did and instead of expanding on it they swapped most of it out.

Paapa Essiedu was wonderful.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

2021

Nothing but a hollow popcorn flick mashup of the first two Resident Evil games. Was hoping that Mr X would've just popped out of the screen and bashed my fucking brains in rather than sit and watch this T Virus turd ever again. But no such luck because he never got put in the film.

The only reason I had an inkling to revisit Welcome to Racoon City was me playing though the monotonous Resident Evil 2, which may as…

Fear Street: 1978

I always tend to rewatch this sequel installment from the Netflix Fear Street trilogy, likely due to my obsession with slasher films.

Though I'm not sure where it stands amoungst the other two films, I like them all equally but there isn't a standout entry. It's definitely looking like Part 2 is likely going to be the standout if only because it's gotten rewatched more than the others.

Maybe that'll change next time I rewatch Part 1 or Part 3, who knows.

finally sat down with this. coming from Revolutions (or Animatrix, i guess) i wasn't sure how i envisioned this carrying on but whatever it was clearly wasn't like this.

so devoted to not doing what was expected/wanted of it that things ended up wrapping around to almost being the complete ideal for me personally in a way? the action sequences are a bit of a stumbling block but as far as the character moments and everything else here, it was…
