2025 Cult Movie Challenge Week 24: Gregg Araki Week

I was surprised they killed off Chad when they did but Brad Pitt’s shit eating grin before getting shot was very funny. Has its moments, and it’s a good time, but I couldn’t fully get behind it like I did with their other movies.

“Leave it to the Catholics to destroy existence.”

One of those movies that felt like it was made for me.

The Criterion Challenge 2025 Week 21. 1990s

“You're all free now!

92 minutes of brilliance.

“Hi. We need to get Rusty a girl.”
“There's a women's prison down the road.”

“When I told you when I had to work late? I really went to go see the new Twilight movie by myself, and it was so bad.”

Good call on my friend’s part to put this on. Funnier than I expected and that reveal was so well done.

The Criterion Challenge 2025 Week 20. Spine #451-499

“Some people, were born to sit by a river. Some get struck by lightning. Some have an ear for music. Some are artists. Some swim. Some know buttons. Some know Shakespeare. Some are mothers. And some people, dance.”

The length got to me at times but I bought into the story pretty hard. It was easy getting lost in Cate Blanchett’s performance. Brad Pitt is really good as well, but she steals the show.

2025 Cult Movie Challenge Week 20: Lance Henriksen Week

“Wow, you mean there were dinosaurs here in Brooklyn?”
”Relax, Luigi. There used to be Dodgers here too.”

Spent a lot of the run time thinking “huh” but also “hell yeah” so that’s a win. 

Had to take a breather after the Twin Towers scene lmao.

The Criterion Challenge 2025 Week 18. William Friedkin’s Closet Picks

“Nobody escapes. Nobody ever really escapes.”

I did not expect this to get so violent but that’s not a complaint. It does get slow at times but all in all it works for me. Good pick, William.

Asked my brother “is this a horror movie?” right before we started so you can imagine how surprised I was discovering it’s a sci-fi romance movie! Something different from Carpenter but he nails it. Karen Allen is brilliant and Jeff Bridges plays his part perfectly. Great stuff all around.

“Well, perhaps the laws of physics cease to exist on your stove. Were these magic grits? I mean, did you buy them from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?”

The Criterion Challenge 2025 Week 17. 1970s

“Deprived of lessons, I decided to run away.”

Can confirm this is a great movie to watch accompanied by an edible but also a terrible movie to watch accompanied by an edible.
