Perfect Hamlet to watch for pride, I didn't think Shakespeare could get any gayer but I have been proven wrong. Very handsome production, absolutely gigantic looking a lot of the time. Asta Nielsen Is great, her movements are so controlled, and her performance has a really good blend of the theatrical, and subtlety you don't see often in films this early; her cockiness in the role I can't describe as anything else but just really cool. I cannot believe she was also almost 40 in this, I would've never guessed!

Silent psychological drama about clowns? How was I not supposed to love this? Truly incredible, Lon Chaney has never been more sympathetic, his faces of pure anguish, particularly during the circus performances were perfect. I like how the romance is done as well, and how Consuelo's struggles parallel the clown's own especially considering the same person is set to ruin her life as well, it didn't just seem forced in like many because they thought films needed a romance subplot. I love the interludes of the globes, especially the couple that have clowns circling around it. The ending is truly shocking, amongst the best of the period. Absolutely love this!

Always a treat to see strong style this early in cinema's history, especially feature length. Sadly, it doesn't doesn't have the technical prowess of a Lang, or storytelling of something like Wiene's Caligari that came out the same year. With that film, and something like The Golem coming put at the same time, this personally to me seems a bit meager in comparison, but there's some pretty cool set design for sure. Highlights include suits dancing in a store window, and some wonderful overacting by an older woman who practically es away in her seat upon hearing her son stole from the bank.

I haven't felt human dread in a horror film quite like this since Hereditary. A pretty miserable, captivating showcase of grief, and how it can completely change even the strongest of people in a negative way. The way they use water as a constant reminder of all of these character's traumas is so simply effective, the film is literally drenched with a constant reminder of the pains of all of them. The kids are great, and Sally Hawkins gives one of her best. I cannot believe how terrifying she made this on the surface sweet hearted woman; her character probably was at some point, which makes it all the more sad. An improvement to the already impressive Talk To Me, these two are on their way to becoming horror royalty, and I cannot wait for their next.

The actual best Disney renaissance film.

Even after 30 years, this still is one of the most mature, and relatable handlings of any of their animated characters, and it's centered around goddamn Goofy. I love a good road movie, and you really can't beat one with two goofs together. I'm still amazed at some stuff in this, like Goofy telling off Pete (in probably the best line delivery of the character by Bill Farmer ever, oh my god) or the silence after the hi dad soup moment. I still get so sad when Max rejects the possum hat as Goofy unlocks the cat without saying a word with such a defeated look on his face, such an unappreciated moment with fantastic character animation. This is still fantastic, and a wonderful time capsule.

This did not work for me the first time I saw it, but I was completely in awe of Andor (the series), so I had to revisit it, and while it did improve for me, I'm still not completely sold on this one like a lot of people are. I feel like it's always it's in conflict of itself tone wise, not really sure if it wants to be a throwback to the Star Wars of old, or a new gritty, boots on the ground war drama. It does a decent job of both, but Andor proved I would've much prefer the ladder for this kind of storytelling in the Star Wars universe. I still feel like there's some cool character archetypes here, but almost everyone in this is so paper thin, I'm glad Andor as a character was redeemed, to the point now he's one of my favorite characters in this universe. One thing's for certain though, I still feel like this has incredible scope, cinematography, and Giacchino doing Star Wars music is as great as you'd think it'd be.

I love watching this on VHS, and hearing the big warning of "last chance to own the original versions!" I wonder how many people thought that was a Disney vault-esque marketing stunt, man I wish it was...

Anyways, this film is perfect. I love the whole trilogy, the subsequent films, and media that proceed it, but nothing has quite captured the spell this one has always had on me, I'm wide-eyed everytime I watch it. There's just such a magic to it; unlike everything else that came after, there was no expectations, no picky fan base, no questionable creative (or lack thereof) decisions. This is Star Wars at its purest, it's pulpiest, and it's most sincere, and even if nothing came afterwords this would still be one of the best sci-fi films ever made. Almost 50 years later, even after thousands of stories told in this universe, A New Hope is still one of a kind.

Sorry, I'd rather watch Happy Tree Friends. It's only like 5 minutes, and there's a funny blue moose.

Starting off with a pretty well done, hilariously cruel opener (I couldn't believe that scene with kid and the piano, Warner Bros released this???) this quickly turned into just another "kill off the cast slowly" routine that's not done bad by any means, but nothing stood out for me. I don't care about the family drama, even though the cast was clearly putting in the work, and made it tolerable. I've never seen one of these, which should tell you how obvious and distracting the callbacks are, it's so clear when they stop just to make a reference to something else and I'm just done with it. the logs????? They literally referenced them three times.

The anticipation is the most well done aspect, and I did have fun waiting for the kills to happen, they dangle the components right in your face and that's pretty entertaining. But man, the gore looks rough; I do prefer practical, but I'm not against CG. Bad CG though, yeah, there's plenty of that in here, for example I couldn't believe how bad the head being crushed in the garbage truck looked, it looked like someone just slid the girls head across the screen with their mouse, and added some blood to it.

This isn't bad, but certainly not for me. Biggest thing of note for me is that as a Casper nut the cinematographer of Casper Meets Wendy and A Spirited Beginning shot this. Glad you're still getting work, buddy.

We gotta get Jeremy Strong to do a revival of The Pee-Wee Herman Show, dude shares a huge resemblance to Paul sometimes.

Anyone who makes something as perfect as Pee-Wee's Big Adventure will hold a special place in my heart forever, and it's nice to see he seemed even cooler than that, I knew nothing about his previous creative endeavours prior to Pee-Wee (he was a drag queen? My icon!) If you love anything the man's been attached to this is incredibly detailed, and full of insight from Reubens himself, you're gonna love it. But, if you know nothing, you'll likely love it too, as this is a great study on the personal sacrifices to be embraced, alongside fame in general, our confusing relationship with it from the outside, and our love of destroying it as a mass spectacle.

Paul Reubens deserved better, and I'm glad almost everyone saw through the bullshit eventually to realize how dirty he was done for such a long time.

This review may contain spoilers.

This is definitely my least favorite since the second one. The more self serious tone was a brave choice for a series that likes to get this ridiculous, but an understandable one as a potential ending, and I think it was done well. Do I prefer it though? No, I do not. I thought the previous did a much better job at upping the ante while also constantly delivering the excitement. This slows things down more at times, and not for the better if you ask me. I didn't mind the callbacks, but the way they were constantly revealed through old clips was distracting (worst editing since MI2 as well!)

But wow, the highs are outrageously high. The submarine scenes? Might be my new favorite moment in the whole series. So atmospheric, without any dialogue whatsoever. Just nothing but simple intensity. The way Ethan was cranking, and the aspect ratio changed with him? Come on. The scene where Ethan communities with The Entity? The escape at the beginning? The final scene with Luther? Benji struggling to surivive getting emergency surgery from someone who doesn't know  how while ALSO guiding someone through a rebooting system? THE PLANES??? Oh yeah, this is still a very fun Mission Impossible movie, I just feel like it got crushed by its own weight a bit.

I dont know if this is a fair comparison, but I couldn't stop thinking about Punch-Drunk Love (my favorite movie!) watching this, but this is the bad ending where the socially inept, aggressive, and frustrated pariah doesn't find his plus one, but instead they painfully distance themselves from them as far as possible. Just like Sandler's performance too, this uses the main actor's usual manchild schtick and twists it into something more sad, and real. I couldn't imagine anyone other than Tim Robinson in this role, even if I wouldn't say it's like seeing him from a completely different angle as much as the aforementioned performance. The most uncomfortably hilarious film I've watched since probably Shiva Baby, and I loooove cringe comedy so I had a blast!

No discredit to the film, but my favorite part of the screening was just hearing how into this the audience was. There was singing, shouting, and big emotions, and it was one of the most alive theater experiences I've ever been to. So cool to see! I did really enjoy the film itself too though; in less capable hands this would've been "very special episode" territory, there's a lot of big drama. I won't lie, some of it was too much for me, and I thought the melodrama piled up a bit too high for my liking. But, what carries it is the lead actress, who is beyond great, awnry and sweet, and the relationship she has with these kids seems so real. Very good punchable foils too. This is the spiritual successor to School of Rock I didn't know I needed!

Super fun balance of horror, dark comedy, the supernatural, and revenge that balances it's tonal shifts very well. Felt like the festival found a tin containing a film of unknown origin drowned in arsenic, and just slapped it onto the projector after a quick shake. Eerie, unsettling, and hypnotic, I was frustrated with this equally as much as I was fascinated with it, ready to dismiss due to its irritating looney editing choices, but then being continuously won over by it's nasty visuals. Seeing this on a big screen was super cool, and felt kind of wrong, I feel like this should've been watched in super low quality on an old box computer with the lights turned off. An example of 3D being used to certainly heighten a film, but to also hide its shortcomings, particularly how uninteresting the cinematography generally is. Going back to the 3D though, it was way less gimmicky than I was anticipating (most of the time at least) and was super intriguing seeing a film that seemingly had no business adopting the format, but gives a fine argument to how it can be used without distracting the audience. Other than that, this is absolutely fine! I really liked the television angle, the fake out at the beginning was entertaining, and probably the best looking 3D effect wise. Predictable as it was, the ending was a lot of fun too. This fairly run of the mill noir is elevated by a solid cast, a short run time, and it's confusing, but shockingly effective pairing of 3D effects.

A nothing movie leeching off of an actual cool thing. Clearly, they're smart enough to realize they shouldn't just remake the game because it's already cinematic enough. But, it's so funny how every video game movie just keeps forgetting that most of the enjoyment is playing the damn thing; sure, the original Until Dawn's plot is fun, but I wouldn't say it's anything extraordinary. Guys, it's entirely narrative focused now, you gotta beef it up. Give me a reason I shouldn't just pick up the PlayStation controller. They don't. Just trope after trope. Not lovingly, just because they think horror movies have to. Any slight interest is just the neutered version of existing elements from the game. I want to root for this director so bad knowing his origins, but he just keeps proving he's just a director for hire who doesn't have a bit of noticeable traits, or at least doesn't get the opportunity to.

This sucks. Add it to the never ending pile of bland IP film coasting off of brand recogniztion, and nothing else. With that being said, the best part of the movie was seeing Astro-Bot on the big screen for a couple of seconds.

While I think this period of Malick's, after The Tree of Life and before A Hidden Life have the neat distinction of seeing a director of such grand scale getting a little looser, and more personal, I have to say I'm glad he's back to taking his time, making films of bigger scope. Most of my enjoyment is from Emmanuel Lubezki's cinematography; they could've shot two hours of Christian Bale going to the dmv and it would've still looked exquisite. This is sadly one of Malick's more meandering projects though, super repetitive thematically; the musings of the emptiness of the lifestyle of the elite of Hollywood from one of it's most famously reclusive participants could've, and should've been way more interesting than this.

With most of his work, I feel like I would know some of the secrets of the universe after around 100 rewatches. With this, I just kind of feel like I watched two of my favorite creatives film pretty people, and pretty locations with half a idea for two hours. Yeah, sure, it's watchable. But good lord, this feels like more forced, meticulously planned course correction like Deadpool & Wolverine, and I don't even watch most of these anymore. Even so, I'll take this over endless brand worship of that film anyday.

This tries so desperately to hit that Russo feel, meaning almost no actual creative input, and just letting the characters  carry it. Sorry, but these guys just ain't cutting it; I like Pugh, and Harbour's character is surprisingly my favorite of the bunch, I like the wholesome excitement he brings to this guy. Everyone else I can take or leave, the guy that was Captain America but worse shtick got old quick, Bob's indestructable goober personality was done better in Guardians 3, Kamen was practically a nothing character, and I'm sorry, Bucky is one of most boring big characters of the whole MCU, and this is coming from someone who's been loving Sebastian's recent output.

I appreciate the attempt at something a bit more high concept and character focused near the second half. It's surface level, sure, but it was something, I suppose. It's sadly shoved into just another save the day, the world is ending conclusion that we've seen countless times. If they would've maybe steered clear of that, and actually commited to digging a bit deeper into the mental health stuff and not just being Avengers lite I think this could've been a somewhat unique chapter in a franchise that continues to prove it doesn't have many more surprises left in it. As is it though, it's just another one of these. able, not much else. In of post Endgame MCU, I'll take something like Shang-Chi over this, at least that one doesn't seem like it was on autopilot.

Yeah, sure, the narrative is pretty light, and a lot of it's story beats are (lovingly and tastefully) plucked from other films of it's type. But, just like a lot of those films, a strong unique mood, and visual sense make up for it, and tells the story along the way without saying anything, and this film delivers on that. Beautiful score too. Your affinity of this will likely be higher if you really love 80s/90s family films, but don't dismiss it as purely a tedious nostalgia-fest, it really isn't that. As corny as it sounds, I hope this is that cool movie to some kids that seemed a lot different than the others that really sparks their creativity; we need those kind of movies more than ever, and it's nice to see a lot of soul in a movie that can be watched by everyone. I can easily see this being a new comfort movie for me, it was just a very nice watch.

I was definitely a bit harsh on this my first time watch, I've come around the second time, this is great! High society period pieces have always been my kryptonite; I don't know, I've always found most of them to be bit dull. I've recently come to really enjoy them, I think my recent watch of The Rose of Versailles suddenly has me almost starving for it. What truly makes this special is the cast, like truly, what a home run, one of the best ensembles of the 2000s for sure. Kiera Knightly's smile could cure the world. Didn't recognize how funny it is too until now. Love it!

A film of great comion, and healing. Showcases how senseless our barriers we build for others are, and the noble act of rectifying it, even it appears to be too late. I'm closeted to my family, and knowing them well they wouldn't like it, but this gave me hope if I ever do come out they would eventually come around. I also just love the awnry old character/ younger character combo, it's such a nice dynamic that I never really tire of. Shout out to the shot of the two cats randomly fighting in the background.

I for sure dug the concept, and it's executed well enough, but I just personally feel like it wasn't able to dive into concepts of the expectations of art from both the audience, and the creative team as much as it could have, it was a bit more breezy than maybe I was wanting. I do respect the tricky tonal tightrope it attempts to cross, and it succeeds more often than it doesn't. I like that it tries to not overstay it's welcome (a trait that seems defining for the director looking as his filmography,) but to be honest I could've gone for a bit more. Still, it is pretty funny, has a pretty great last 15 minutes or so, and extra big kudos to the main actor, who you shockingly almost kind of start rooting for the longer it goes, I don't really think many actors could make this kind of character work the way he did. Definitely interested me enough to check out more of this director's work in the future.

Watching this, you can already see Fargeat's incredible sense for a great shot, her love for the red stuff, and a strong distaste for sloppy eaters. I think she only got better when she leaned more into her exciting, excessive tendencies with her second, but this is still a super strong debut from a incredibly great filmmaker.

HELL YESSSSSSSS!!!!

This movie rips. Incredible pacing, I loved just hanging out with these guys prior to any of the excitement later in the night. But once the partying starts? God, it just doesn't let up! I know everyone's talking about that scene, but that scene, right?! Anytime there's a musical performance in this it's exhilarating to the max, that goes for the score as well, it's incredibly varied, and along with the songs might just be the star of the show, certainly my favorite score from Göransson. I just love films that take place during one day, and even better in largely one setting, and what a cast to do it with, so many fun characters, scene stealers, and maybe Micheal B. Jordan's two best performances?

Absolutely gorgeous, and maybe the most fun I've had from a film this decade thus for. He's never fallen off, but this was the Ryan Coogler film I truly wanted after Fruitvale Station, and so much more. Can't wait to watch it again!

Destined to be overshadowed by a unexpected hit that it shares traits with months prior (you know the one), Sacramento is still a very enjoyable, funny odd couple road dramedy that is willing to get a bit nastier than the aforementioned film, and showcase a duo that's a bit more difficult to like, but just as easy to relate to, and perhaps showcases an even more rocky relationship if you prefer a more messy dynamic. If you eat these kind of movies up it's a good time! Just maybe don't expect the powerhouse of, I'm sorry to mention again, that other movie I keep talking about (just bad timing guys, I'm really sorry). Cera and Angarano work well together, although I would've liked to see more Stewart, you can't just cast her and use her this minimally, come on!

Up to the introduction of Clark working at Daily Planet, this film was was so grand, serious in its own pulpy way, and uniquely mysterious that when it started being predictably (although in 2025 refreshingly!) comic book-y I was kind of taken aback at the tone shift. Not saying I didn't have a great time after that though; this film is so earnest and goofy I got so sucked into it. It's also gorgeous to look at! Speaking of gorgeous, Reeves will likely never be topped as Superman, everyone else is a lot of fun too. I know little about Superman, and I don't know if it's comic accurate, but I always assumed Lex was a much more serious character, and I was shocked to see Hackman play him in such a delightfully silly way, I really enjoyed his performance. This movie is so fun!

If Blumhouse made more films like, I'd probably see them a lot more often. Nothing I'll personally be coming back to, or anything, but I'd be lying if I wasn't entertained throughout. Very simple, and tense small scale premise, which was way more tastefully executed from the house of Blum than normally seen from the stuff they distribute, it doesn't seem like this was just a compilation of scenes that were stitched together solely to make a shitty trailer like a lot of their stuff seems to be. Self aware at what it is, and is completely fine with getting a bit stupid, especially towards the end. But hey, it was stupid done pretty effectively so I didn't mind. Solid stuff here!

There's a lot that's well done here; just like Garland's previous, the sound design is second to none. There's one explosion in here that I couldn't believe, it shook the whole theater. I like detail of the small fuck ups that occur that are life or death, and the acting from the cast, the contrast from the cool, calm, and collected immediately to the terrified and helpless is extremely well done. It's cool seeing two completely different performances in a row from Poulter, he's got the stuff. Unfortunately, I just don't think this really says, or adds all that much to really any conversation about war. The neutral "show it as is" direction has been done so often, and better. The ending was also extremely tacky, sorry, I know this is a personal film, but I really just don't like that kind of stuff, it takes you out of the film completely, just let the film speak for itself.

Well made, for sure, super tight, and I think Garland's sensibilities work for this kind of film. I think I just prefer when he gets a lot more cerebral.

How many times are we gonna make this movie? Like, of course I'm with you, but c'mon.

I'm ok with obvious, something like The Menu, for example, is so easy to wrap your head around, some would say too much so. But I love it, and there's plenty of interesting choices that make it really worthwhile despite it's predictability. This goes exactly the way you think it will the whole time, and never challenges your expectations. The beginning is kind of doing something that Common Side Effects just did, but without the bite, and big subversive moral dilemma that show offers (please watch that show if you haven't already), and the second half is a slasher that wants to be a gorefest, but is too cowardly, and probably incapable of pulling it off. None of it really works.

Paul Rudd is frustratingly unlikeable, Jenna Ortega is boring, the actors playing the evil rich family are technically not doing bad work, I see effort, but the direction that's taken is a bit too over the top nasty than needed, which becomes grating for something that is for the most part grounded. Probably could've afforded to get a little sillier, definitely funnier, and way meaner than it's willing to. Could've been cool, but was kind of a whole lot of nothing. Nothing really egregious, but very unmemorable.
