Been enjoying movies very much since about 1999. Used to be snooty, but lately, I'm trying to be more omnivorous 🤷‍♂️

CGI sequence of satellite over Virginia. Quick zoom jump cuts to a park. Voyeur angles on will smith

Now, can you rotate that image 70°? OK now zoom in 30% and enhance. .. Haha! We got you, you son of a bitch!

If you like stuff like that, this is the movie for you. Just unrelenting in its nineties-ness.

Happy Hour plays like an epic poem; an ode to friendship in your 30s when it all gets weird. It's an acknowledgement that we keep growing, learning how to listen to ourselves and how to express ourselves. Narratively structured around four women who are all struggling with similar themes, but each at their own pace. Hamuguchi takes a staggeringly methodical approach to shed light onto a certain time for a group of friends and their extended, often overlapping, lives. Their trials echo and mirror; learning about themselves while listening to each other.

Honestly some great low altitude aerial photography. Jerry Stiller is lowkey hilarious here. Set design is 70s goopery. Why is everyone so excited when that old woman orders a boilermaker? Karen Black is the utterly exhausted, reluctant messiah we dont deserve. The initial crash an ensuing enger pandemonium is something to see. I saw it about 5x in a row using the rewind feature 😏

Long live shape shifting raccoons. The spectre parade is really something to see and the last act had me in tears. The comedy hit hard for me. Just overall great time although sad at times too

A charming and poignant character study of a father trying to understand and respect his son's grave decisions. Tavernier paints a loving portrait of Lyon and a handful of its inhabitants. Excited to see what else he has to offer!
