The two things that took me a minute adjust to: Raul Julia not being a charmer and William Hurt without any facial hair.

But in a way, those two qualities contribute to the film’s overall feel of surprises. As things develop, the story goes in some interesting directions, all the while Julia and Hurt put in some solid performances.

Came for a gay old time with Liza, left with the brooding realization that history is repeating itself via the rise of fascism all while we self-medicate with various forms of escapism.

A strong contender for best horror anthology film. Thirty years later and this thing hasn’t lost its bite. Mainly because all the stories are entertaining, and unfortunately, the themes are still prevalent.
