A Complete Unknown

When I heard a movie was coming out about Bob Dylan I knew in order for me to take it seriously I had to take a proper dive into his music. I grew up with my dad playing his songs from time to time but I never really understood it or bothered to listen to it on my own. In the past few weeks leading up to a complete unknown I started seriously listening to his music and what stood…

Good grief. Profoundly provoking and terrifying. What I love most about Bergman, and these qualities are in Tarkovsky and Kurosawa as well, is the humility of itting that they do not know why we suffer. It’s a question that plagues everyone regardless of your faith or beliefs. Bergman doesn’t try to tell you why we suffer but he doesn’t imply that there’s no meaning in it either, he simply its that he doesn’t know why, and it’s the sincerity in…

Majestic cinematography, some seriously unbelievable shots. We need to bring back epics beyond just massive IPs or Sci-fi. Sometimes a film could be massive in scope to simply portray a human story, it promises spectacle not in action but in true beauty of nature and humanity. Movies used to promise to its audience, you didn’t know what would happen but the story would unfold and you felt that it was worth the time you spent. I could understand if someone found this boring, but for me i enjoyed basking in the world and cinematography, along with the performances and wonderful music.

Another example of why 60s cinema was simply the best decade of film ever. Experimental and hard hitting, a brilliant exploration of suburban loneliness, the weight of conscience, and the reality of a man desperately trying to hold onto his youth and find peace in the shambles of his ruined personal life. Also Burt Lancaster is incredibly athletic for his age in this, and gives one of his finest performances

I went to see this with my girlfriend and her friends as a hate watch at 10:00 at night and to my horror the entire theater was packed, people were dressed up and everyone was shouting lines from the trailer. I honestly felt like everyone was in on a big joke, like everyone knew this film was bad but that’s what it made it fun was how much it committed to being unawatchable and stupid. And I have to it…

More subdued, on point visuals as usual, and a much more followable story than Anderson’s last slew of films. Anderson still feels caught up in his own style though, and he’s veering into a caricature of himself. His earlier films felt a lot more clever authentic and funny, now he gets there in moments but am often left cold. He used to infuse his style with a much more emotional weight. This is an improvement for him though considering his…
