Little Darlings

1980

★★★★★ Liked Rewatched

This is a very sweet, tristesse coming of age story about girls at summer camp in the late 70s. It made me think of being 13 years old, smoking Marlboro reds and trying to approximate the whatever we thought were the best parts of adulthood that we could borrow. There were no adults around then. No internet. Just church and disney afternoon and darkness. I wonder if there were more honest dramas dressed in comedy like this showing the self-controlled chaos of adolescence, if things would have been different.

Godzilla vs. Mothra

Mothra has a beautiful character arc. He starts out as a pupa then becomes a chrysalis then emerges as a beautiful Mothra.

The power dynamic in this is sinister but reads as sweet. I don‘t understand the title. Good performances, weird story. It felt like another movie the last 20 minutes which I appreciated. I also enjoyed how busy the library was.

The Wicker Man

I had trouble following what was going on in this movie but it would give a  pretty good fright to someone who carries epi-bees around. For sure.

Crossroads

Truly a symphonic touchstone of early 2000s cinema. Somehow, even with the dark unexpected twists in the end, it is less tragic than a biopic would be. If you were to watch this film and grizzly man as a double feature, you would get a sense of the different paths bipolar grandiosity can take. Made me like Spears more and wish her well.

Timecop

1994

★★★★ Watched

A charming man travels through betrayal, and time, to save his family. He does some good splits and some good acting. The villain was sufficiently annoying.
