Wish I had the background to look at this in the context of Victor Erice’s small but rich filmography, but this is a groundbreaking piece. It’s just so informed, and while there is a stewing sense of closure here and probably a larger read to be had about the filmmaker as it closes out his filmography, it’s also just laser-focused on truths of living and memory that feel apt for a filmmaker coming out of a multi-decade long break.
