Just another German Expressionist near-masterpiece, visually splendid and thematically rich, with the added bonus of historical context only heightening its impact. Don't love the look of the Golem, essentially a racist stereotype with a terrible haircut, but it's certainly memorable. At least James Whale had the sense to give his monster a crew cut.

Remarkable how much more efficiently you can tell this story without all the singing.

It's impressive that in a film with two Irish romantic leads, neither one of them is played by an Irishman.

Also they both sing, and Harry Connick Jr. doesn't.
