I think what makes this one the best of the seventeen Fleischer cartoons is how it nails the formula perfectly. There’s a crazy bad guy, he does some serious destruction, Lois gets herself in trouble along with the serious destruction, Clark calmly claims this is a job for Superman and gets in his iconic costume and the rest of the cartoon is watching Superman save the day. There’s so much sincerity and heart in this movie that you just don’t see anymore. So many quiet and slow moments, real visual storytelling heavy, you DEFINITELY won’t see that in a lot of superhero movies anymore. Lois has an inner monologue where she’s essentially reciting a poem, could you IMAGINE something like that being in the MCU or, hell, a snyderverse film? And on top of that, being able to take it seriously? Truth be told I can’t. But what I CAN imagine is living a life of luxury in Otisburg! Now that’s the dream!
