The retrospective categorisation of this as a "Universal Horror" is tangential at best. I was expecting much more Karloff whipping innocents as lightning and hail whip the atmosphere into a frenzy. Instead it's mostly.... fencing? The battle scenes are fantastically staged for the period, and young hot Vincent Price is a treat, but there's far too much dragging of feet (and not the club-footed kind).
Apparently I'm allowed to say that I've seen this now? It's really not allowed to be as good as it is, and holy shit does it have some BALLS on it. It's all in extremely bad taste, which works for and against it.
