What an amazing and beautiful little gem of a movie. I had never even heard of it until YouTube suggested the trailer to me (and then I figured with a title like "Stay Awake" it was a horror movie!)

I haven't seen such a compelling "family" movie since Ordinary People. The writing and character interactions are completely natural, and there is nothing more heartbreaking than watching children try to manage a parent's drug addiction without also continuing to enable it.

For years I hated on this movie because I love the novel so much, but over time I've grown to love this movie as its own thing. Great synth score and practical effects.

And as always the real horror is going to high school in the 80s.
