Predator Killer Of Killers is everything Predator fans have been asking for since the original film released. Warriors across history doing battle against the legendary alien. Whilst this has happened in the comics, we've never seen it on the big screen. Apart from with Prey, which is easily the best film in the franchise.

I've seen a few people complain about this being animated but I think this was such a wise decision. This film would be impossible to pull off in live action and the animation looks great. Every short story here, has achieved such technical excellence, the sound design is astonishingly good.

This film is an anthology and does it take me back to the glorious days of Amicus. So I will review each short individually.

Story 1 - Shield: 7/10.
Shield is a very solid opener. The biggest win here is that awesome long take battle sequence. This is easily the most brutal short and it kind of surprised me how far it went.

Visually impressive, though a bit too many close ups for my liking. The dialogue and overall story is a bit weak, relying on too many historical clichés. Yet the predator fight is insane. Easily the weakest of the bunch but still good.

Story 2 - Sword: 9/10.
I might be a bit bias but if you give me two brothers duelling, one samurai and one ninga, I'm already going to like it. Then you throw a predator into the mix, I'm going to love it.

This short looked gorgeous such beautiful animation and the shot selection was superb. There's barely any dialogue here and it works so well. If it wasn't for Prey this would be my favourite piece of predator content.

Story 3 - Bullet: 8/10.
Right so the dialogue here isn't the best and there's a bit too much plot armour. Yet the idea behind bullet was such an ambitious one. To have a predator story be full arieal combat, is such a great idea. Yet also one that might cause a lot of fans to switch off. This is not a typical predator story and I think they execute it really well.

Incredibly thrilling and visually dynamic, the flight sequences are phenomenal. Utilises Chekov's Gun nicely too. I just wish there was a bit more character work here.

Story 4 - Killer Of Killers: 9/10.
This is the peak of the Predator franchise, what every fan has wanted to see for years. I don't want to spoil it but the design of all the predators, the stakes, the visual flair it's all so good. It got me so hyped for Badlands and I thought it was just fantastic.

Overall, Predator Killer Of Killers is a great addition to the predator franchise. I think every fan will adore this, even if the dialogue could've done with another draft.

So about a year ago, I thought I'd never watch another marvel film again. The franchise had become just prodcuts, with no life or love in any of them. Yet everyone said Thunderbolts was good so I thought fine, I shall see for myself. Thunderbolts is pretty decent. Is it great? No, but it's easily the best marvel project since Guardians 3.

The cinematography and editing is quite a step up from the usual affair. The shot selection is unique and there's a beautiful top down fight sequence at the start. The soundtrack is quite fun too.

The performances are very average but David Harbour is great. The dialogue is pretty rubbish, however the jokes actually landed for the most part. The set pieces are fun and I think the whole third act is nicely executed.

I will say that the character development is very poor here. Yelena obviously has a bit of an arc, yet it's very obvious. Ghost is just there to be cool. John Walker is kind of the comic relief and Bob is... well actually an interesting character for once. Even if they do sort of turn him into a homelander figure for a bit.

Overall, Thunderbolts is fine. It's harmless fun, it knows how to make a good sequence and I think the editor did a lot of great work here. I didn't hate it and would probably show it to my dad at some point.

In this era of rebooting every horror franchise, Final Destination Bloodlines is a rarity. It is in fact not only a great reboot but probably the best film since the first.

I think what makes such a difference that the two directors are such fans of the franchise and they absolutely delivered on the kills. This film has easily the craziest and most well constructed premonition sequence in the whole franchise. Fantastic set design, great music and solid costume work.

The present day plot is fun and has actually likeable characters. Yes the dialogue is about as enticing as a robotic mango, but the film is very humorous. This also has such a beautiful final tribute to Tony Todd, truly one of cinema's most underappreciated stars, rest in peace sir.

The film is very well edited, great needle drops and most of the performances are great. The cgi does look a bit ropey at times, but god the kills make it so worthwhile. The performances are very standard but none of them are particularly bad.

Final Destination Bloodlines is just so fun and so well executed. Yet I hope the franchise ends here, we don't need anymore.

I've always loved murder mysteries. Yes it was a tired genre before it even hit the big screens; but call me old fashioned, as I just love a dark mansion, several suspects and lots of juicy murders. Clue is not only a fantastic murder mystery but also a hilarious comedy at the same time.

The performances here are all brilliant, Tim Curry absolutely shines and the ing cast work so well with him. I especially loved seeing Christopher Plum and a young Michael Mckean (wonder what Jimmy would think of Chuck's behaviour here).

The plot has a wonderful amount of twists and turns, with also 3 alternative endings. I liked how every character had a motive and the actual references to the game clue (or cluedo as it's called over here) were fun to spot.

The dialogue is electric, the set design is gorgeous and the score is wonderful. The cinematography and editing were pretty standard, but the lighting was a particular highlight for me.

Eastern Promises is a true testament to David Cronenberg's versatility. A lot of people tend to only him for his cult horror films, which are fantastic, yet I feel like his best work comes from his gritty crime drama's.

The main thing I love about Eastern Promises is how good Steven Knight's script is. The dialogue is tight and realistic. The character interactions and power struggles are fascinating to watch unfold. The structure works very well and the twists and turns in the story all lead to an extremely satisfying end.

Viggo Mortensen's reserved performance is astounding, it makes his character arc ten times more fascinating. You really see him struggling with his conscience and morality throughout. Vincet Cassel and Naomi Watts lead a stacked ing cast in style. Great to see Donald Stumper and Josef Atlin in this two.

The cinematography is subtlety excellent, the score strong, the editing fine tuned to a point. Cronenberg's blocking is just exquisite. The knife fight in the sauna is so raw and brutal, incredibly well executed sequence.

The only thing I will say is that I wish there was a sequel and the script does struggle in deciding who it wants as its main protagonist for the first half.

Yet this is another fantastic film, from a man who is becoming easily one of my favourite directors. Yes no one does horror quite like Cronenberg, but no one does crime realism like Cronenberg as well.

Yes I know a lot of people love this film and I get it. It's not a bad film, it just wasn't quite for me. Now I adore Ti West's X, it's the perfect modern slasher and it's so well shot. Yet Pearl just loses it for me because I was never once invested.

I think the problem with Pearl is we know exactly where it's going. Origin stories are fun at times but this didn't feel like anything that unique. I wish the prequel almost didn't happen because I like Pearl being a product of the themes of the first film.

Now before I go on, I will say that Mia Goth's performance is tremendous, it's award worthy. She truly is one of the finest actresses of this age of cinema and I really want to see her in lots more. The whole film is immaculately shot too, that colour grade is very impressive. On a technical level Pearl is an absolute achievement.

On a narrative level, I find it lacking. The plot drags on and all the time I just feel sorry for Pearl, I never really had fun with the film. Yes I know you're not meant to enjoy it, but I couldn't help feel a complete lack of interest in anything that was going on. The dialogue is solid if a bit too repetitive and the whole script feels quite clunky. The monologue scene is superb though.

Pearl is a good film, but it just didn't quite work for me. I think maybe it's because it's been so highly rated and well received I was expecting a stirring character study. Instead I just felt really down watching this film.

Final Destination 3 was a big surprise. I thought it was going to be another pointless sequel. Yet in fact it's almost on par with the first.

The kills here are absolutely legendary, there's barely a bad death in the film. They are all so horrifying and unique. The film is shot quite nicely, I see you split diopter shot. The performances are quite good because you have Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the main role.

The dialogue is corny and the franchise is definitely bordering on satire here. Yet the main couple of characters are quite likeable. Also the concept with the photos is just great. This film is a reminder to me of why I'm so glad I'm scared of roller-coasters.

The original Final Destination is such a fun film. The concept came at a time when the slasher genre was entering it's usual mundane eras and so this film decided to reinvent it all. Horrific comedic and very well directed.

Most people wouldn't see this film as having strong direction but I think the film is very subtle about it. There's brief glimpses of mastery: from the fantastic framing during the climax, the fast paced editing style stringing it all together, the glorious commitment to practical stunts.

Yes the performances and dialogue is very late 90's, but I don't really care when the film is this fun. Also fun fact this film was actually based on an idea for an X Files episode.

Final Destination has a strong concept, a great lead character in Alex and a nice amount of fun deaths. I like a lot of this franchise but this is the best for me.

The Vourdalak was a French film that had such a limited release, last year, I was afraid I wouldn't get to see it. Thankfully I caught it on Film 4 the other night and I'm so glad I did.

I haven't read the original tale but I have seen Mario Bava's take on it in Black Sabbath and well it's sadly not one of his best on a narrative scale. Thankfully this film crafts a strong character driven story, full of scares and haunting imagery.

I think the thing I appreciate most about this film, is it's attention to detail. It's a period piece that actually looks like it was set all those centuries ago. The costumes are fabulous, the set design archaic and crumbling. The fact that our main protagonist is in classic aristocratic makeup, with those wigs, the entire time is just brilliant.

The dialogue is beautifully poetic and the whole film plays out like a Greek tragedy. The whole family are slowly taken one by one and I think the differences between a Vourdalak and a vampire are absolutely fascinating.

The performances are so strong, the cinematography immaculate, the use of the environment for framing is just brilliant. The first act builds the tension nicely, the second is intriguing and the third is complete insanity. There's some beautiful practical effects on display, especially the Vourdalak himself, who I was delighted to see was an actual puppet.

The Vourdalak should be seen by all, it's got all the makings of a horror classic. It takes me back to the days when horror films were more concerned with story and atmosphere, than just cheap scares. Absolute masterpiece.

Sinners is an absolute achievement in filmmaking by Ryan Coogler. The film is brilliantly directed, well shot and one hell of a good time. It suffers from some pacing issues and slight tonal imbalance, but overall I loved this one a lot.

I think the most impressive thing about Sinners is that this isn't a little indie film, it's a studio product. Yet it doesn't feel like it and thank god for that. I think it would've been a very different story if Coogler hadn't included final cut privelege, in his for the bidding war.

The films first half sets up the film to be a great crime drama. The dialogue is sharp, the performances electric, the use of long takes are sublime and not overused. It's just fascinating seeing these two very different brothers interact with their old world.

Michael B Jordan plays Smoke and Stack so brilliantly, that it really doesn't feel like it's the same actor at all. Both have such distinct personalities and honestly it's one of the only films where having a single actor play twins actually works. The whole ing cast are fantastic, Miles Caton has a stunning debut, Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku are perfect choices. I just adore Omar Miller too as the best character, Cornbread. Yet it's Jack O'Connell's fascinating depiction of Remmick, which makes the film complete.

The second half is interesting. It starts off with an experimental music sequence, so daring and so ridiculous that it works. Ludwig Goransson's score is phenomenal as is the editing. That scene is pure movie making magic. Then the plot descends into what is quite a conveniental vampire film. There's a few plot holes and a bit too many cliches. Yet the performances still remain strong and there's some fantastic prosethetic work.

Now don't get me wrong, I love a good vampire film and this is the first fun western one we've had in a while. Yet I wish they went further with the plot of Miles being able to summon the souls of the dead and breach the world's. Felt a bit underexplored. Also the epilogue didn't quite work for me. Hailee Steinfeld's dialogue was also rather weak.

But overall Sinners is such a great watch. Coogler's vision here is very impressive, and like all good pieces of art a bit messy too. Sinners is a film I definitely will rewatch, easily one of the strongest of the year.

Hey guys, I'm still alive. I've finished university, about to move in with my girlfriend, got an A on my first feature film screenplay and am currently working full time. Here's all the films I watched in the last couple of months, enjoy!

Mark Mylod is easily one of the most recognisable TV directors in the modern age of television. From Game Of Thrones to Succession, with 'Once Upon A Time' and the criminally underrated 'The Royle Family'. This is not his feature film debut, but it's his first let's say sophisticated film (no offense AliG Indahouse).

The Menu is such a fun watch. The script hits all it's story beats in solid fashion, the dialogue is tight and the stakes are high. The film never goes to the extreme level we expect, but all the meals are cleverly conceived. That finale makes for a dramatic conclusion too.

The cast really are exquisite. Anya Taylor Joy is a very likeable protagonist, Nicholas Hoult plays one of the silliest guys ever. Yet it's Ralph Fiennes who commands the screen, truly one of the greatest to ever do it. The whole ing cast are great too.

Yet there's one major issue with the film that doesn't push it above 4 stars for me and that's Mark Mylod himself. The man is a fantastic television director, however he seems to be very stuck in those television ways. The lack of long takes, the quick cuts, the very standard ways of shooting conversations. The minimalistic set design. The Menu is an exciting film on paper and the script/actors capture that energy, yet the style doesn't quite reach that point.

Don't get me wrong I really like The Menu. I just think a different director might have bought something a little bit more appetising to the table.

Such a stupid film but my god was it fun. Jason Statham plays Jason Statham fighting against an army of human traffickers. The fight scenes are clumsily coordinated and edited awfully.

The dialogue is ridiculously corny, but Slyvester Stalone co wrote the script so what did we expect. The character arcs are non existent, the plot makes no logical sense.

Yet I can't help just love it because of how silly everything is. Yes I want to see Jason Statham beat a man with a coffee press, then put his bagels in the toaster. Snow White is genuinely the worst film I think I've seen in a very long time. Here's some reasons why.

1) The songs are horrendously bad, awfully choreographed, not catchy or interesting in anyway. You cannot convince me that A.I didn't write those song lyrics.

2) The acting range of the three leads is perhaps the worst I've ever seen put to screen. The cast of Sharknado could do better.

3) The camera work was so awful here, there's so many scenes where characters are out of focus. Literally the most basic of filmmaking rules and they failed to adhere to it. How did this happen?

4) The sets are so lifeless and empty, the costume design is awful and there's just no life or magic to anything.

5) I had a small bottle of wine and a few cans of beer with me in the cinema. The fact that I couldn't even find the film funny in my semi drunk state, should tell you all you need to know.

Absolutely horrible film. Disney has been making awful films for decades now but this is easily their worst. I'd rather watch 300 and I hate 300.

Mel Brook's debut film is a really fun time. It's completely crazy and has perhaps some of the most unhinged moments ever put to screen.

Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel are a fantastic comedic duo. The whole ing cast is great. The score is brilliant, the jokes shocking and funny. The cinematography at times inspired.

Unfortunately, the only real set back is that this film is very poorly edited. Also, the script doesn't go as thematically deep as I would like, ends up being a pretty standard tale of greed.

Still Mel Brooks had clear talent from the start. Ridiculous film but in the best possible way.

A film depicting the true story of Frank Costello taking down the American mafia from the inside, hell yes this is going to be so fun. Oh, oh no it really isn't. In fact it's maybe the most bland mob film I've seen.

The Alto Knights wishes it was directed by Martin Scorsesse so badly. Because let's be real Scorsesse would be the perfect man for this. Barry Levinson isn't, he delivers a complete mess.

I'll give some positives first, the cinematography has a good selection of shots. This film has a good score. The beginning of the third act is very good, where the mafia meet and Frank's plan is realised. There's some unintentional funny scenes here, which make it not a complete bore. The ing cast are good and Robert De Niro is very solid as Frank Costello.

Now the negatives, Robert De Niro as Vito Genoevese is maybe the weakest performances I've seen him done. It just feels like he's doing a parody of Joe Pesci. The editing of this film is horrendously bad; they are so going for that rhythmic Scorsesse style, yet they have no idea how to execute it. The opening shooting scene is maybe the worst edited sequence of film so far this year. Yes even worse than anything from In The Lost Lands.

The screenplay is a complete mistake. How do you take a really interesting true story and turn it into a bland mess? Well you give us nonstop exposition, delivered by a unnecessary voice over from Robert De Niro. You skip over the interesting scenes. You make sure the pacing is at the speed of a snail. Nothing happens in this film apart from the very start and the very end.

Don't even get me started on the constant cuts to black and white photos with black and white videos. Just commit to one or the other.

I was very disappointed with The Alto Knights. What could've been great just ended up being very weak.

My first slice of Robert Bresson, and I very much like what's on display here. Not quite perfection, but so many interesting ideas on display.

Bressonian cinema is such a unique invention by the man. The use of non professional actors add to the overall tone of the film. No one gives a bad performance but the subdued emotion is perfect for our solitary protagonist. Although, as much as I would say Bresson wants to stray away from theatrical performances, there's a few moments here that almost feel a bit too dramatic.

Every shot serving the story, means we get some great cinematography. There's some very subtle framing here, Bresson never exaggerates and he doesn't need too. Everything feels controlled and neat. Yet the strongest aspect is the editing, my god this film is a masterclass in that field. There's not a single bad or unnecessary cut in this film. It's so rare to see a film with fully perfect editing but this one nails it. The brief baroque score is nice too.

The script is both the best and weakest part of the film. The philosophical take on the morality of our main protagonist is fascinating. There's a lack of judgement and more a presentation of the facts that makes it such a unique take. However, I wasn't over mad on the character of Jacques, I understand he was meant to portray the everyman but it didn't do much for me. Also some of the Jeanne scenes didn't quite do it for me. When they discussed morality yes. When they got to the end, I don't know I wasn't that sold.

My favourite aspect of the film is the friendship between Michel and the detective. Friendship isn't the right word, but neither is rivalry. I think the detective was fascinated by this man not having a full moral code and I love how he didn't outright arrest him. He would always entertain his philosophy. Yet the character isn't in the final act and that was disappointing. I think their story was the idea with the most potential here and I would've like to have seen more of it.

Still Pickpocket is right up my street and it makes for a very intriguing watch. Can't wait to explore the rest of his filmography.

Black Bag is this years biggest surprise for me. After the huge disappointment of Prescence, I was ready to write off Soderbergh and Koepp. Yet Black Bag is an almost perfect film.

I do think the first act could do with a slight bit of tweaking, as it does feel a bit clunky. Yet that's genuinely my only criticism, the rest is fine stuff.

From tight editing, to a jazzy score and some gorgeous focus pulls; Steven Soderbergh is doing what he does best. This film looks and feels so good. Soderbergh brings out the absolute best in his actors, everyone gives a fantastic performance. I haven't seen Pierce Brosnan act that well in years.

David Koepp's script honestly should win all the awards. A thriller that actually is intelligent and values it's screenplay, god I feel like I've woken up in the 70's. Every character has their own motivations and the script deliberately misleads it's audience. It had me guessing until the very end. I'm desperate to rewatch the film now that I know the ending.

The dialogue is mostly immaculate, although that first dinner scene does need a bit of a rewrite. There's a subtle undercurrent of sexual energy running through the whole film and it keeps the film, well sexy. Michael Fassbender makes for such a likeable protagonist too.

The film is witty, tense, sexy and just a whole load of fun. It calls back to the golden age of crime thrillers and I really hope more films like this start to appear. Power to the screenwriters!

Black Bag has renewed my hope in modern cinema and I'm sure that will be obliterated next week with Snow White but let me have this lovely moment. Sorry for doubting you Mr. Soderbergh and Mr. Koepp. Film of the bloody year (other than the Brutalist).

Last Breath was a lot better than I thought it would be. The trailers made me assume that we would be in for a very generic watch and we kind of are. Yet it goes into way more detail than I expected, making for a well researched and enjoyable watch.

However, it's not all great. The film's sound mix was absolutely horrendous. The seats and floor in my cinema were literally vibrating. The generic score is way too loud and drowns out the actors at the start of the film. Sound efects and Woody Harrelson's mic needed to be knocked down quite a bit.

The rest of the film is technically decent. The underwater cinematography is good, the on land stuff is your standard shot selection. The editing is quite tight which is good.

The performances are good all round, Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu and Finn Cole make for a great trio. The ing cast are mostly good too, always nice to see Josef Atlin. Although, I do think the wife's performer was a bit weak on the line delivery.

The script is quite good, it has dialogue issues here and there but nothing too scathing. Most of the emotional beats hit and the set pieces are strong enough to keep the audience engaged. Yet the film's greatest strength is that it goes into so much detail with the whole operation.

From the rv pilots, to the technical engineers, to the captain of the ship, it really gives such an authentic experience. The film never feels unrealistic and I appreciated how well researched everything is.

Last Breath definitely needs another sound edit and it's got nothing in there that makes it particularly memorable. Yet it's a very serviceable film; one that needs to be celebrated for how much research has gone into making it as realistic as possible.

Opus is a dull, uninspired and stupid affair. Even a crazy John Malcovich performance cannot stop this film from being one of the worst of the decade.

I will give the film three half stars. Firstly, for John Malcovich; he makes the most of the little he has to work with. Nowhere near his best performance but it's still fun. Secondly, even though she has nothing to work with it's great to see Amber Midthunder is getting roles and she adds some solid physical acting. Finally, the score has some decent tracks, not the songs, but the actual music of the film isn't too bad.

The rest of Opus is the mess. There's some okay shots here and there but it's edited together so horrendously. This film is without a doubt the worst edited of the year so far. So many continuity errors and sloppy sequences. The direction is awful, there's no sense of blocking or framing. You can tell that the actors were given the most basic of commands, which lead to those awful performances.

I know Ayo Edebiri might be great in the Bear, but she is so weak here. I put that down to the awful directing, but there's one scene that is so stilted it just was painful. The rest of the ing cast are just bland and uninteresting.

Most films nowadays tend to have weak scripts because the studios don't care about original ideas or actually read what they're given it seems. Yet Opus makes even the dialogue in Flight Risk look good. The dialogue here is so amateurish, so on the nose and so badly written that I'm amazed this got optioned.

The plot is basically Blink Twice, The Menu, Midsomer and every other cult film ever rolled into one. It's lazy and uninspired. Most of the characters have nothing to do. We watch them react to John Malcovich being silly and then about twenty minutes before the end, they realise they need to tell the story and jump into a confused conclusion. The only vaguely interesting scene is the last one and even that's poorly done. Zero thematic depth and little to no engaging or interesting concepts explored.

Opus is a complete failure on all levels. Honestly, if it wasn't for the disappointment of Prescence, it would be the worst of the year for me.

The Dark Crystal is a phenomenal achievement. A beautifully made film, with so much ion and care. Totally innovative and with a fascinating world, there's so much to love here.

Jim Henson is a cinematic pioneer, his puppetry is just pure art. The world he created for The Dark Crystal is fascinating. There's so much love on display here. Every set is so detailed and the creatures all have wonderful costume designs. The ecosystem on display here is just so intriguing. This film is truly beautiful.

The plot is a classic fantasy tale but it packs a very solid twist at the end. The connections between the mystics and the skeksis is quite unique. Speaking of the skeksis, my god what great villains they were. Especially the Chamberlain. I could stay in this universe forever, I wanted to know so much more about well everything. To my delight I found out that there's have a prequel show from Netflix, that's actually meant to be good? So I can't wait to dive in.

Most of the voice acting is great, but I do think our two main protagonists I voiced a bit too generically. Actually the design of the Gelfings as a whole, didn't feel that inspired. There's occasional dialogue issues and I did want a lot more from this story. Something I'm sure the prequel show will deliver on.

Yet in a time where most children and fantasy films are fairly bland, it's nice to look back at brilliant dark fantasy stories such as this one. God I hope we return to the days of these sort of tales. Thank you Jim Henson, and his company, for letting us explore another one of your fabulous worlds.

Ghost Dog might just be Jim Jarmusch's masterpiece and it's one of the coolest films I've ever seen. A relaxing ride into vengeance and morality, which combines the gangster and samurai genre's perfectly.

The film is shot so simply and it works so well. Every shot feels like it serves the narrative. The experimental cuts and dissolves really enhance the experience too. Jim Jarmusch's use of blocking is effortless here and the score by RZA slaps. The soundtrack choices are all great too.

The film has such a strong screenplay, I do think Jarmusch is a better writer than he is director. The dialogue is so interesting; at times thought provoking, at others absolutely hilarious. There's a line of absurdism running through the film and it just makes it an even better watch. I loved the study of the samurai code and I loved the visual metaphors of the dog and pigeons.

The acting is great. Forest Whitaker is makes for such a fascinating stoic figure and John Tormey is the perfect opposite to him. All the gangsters are fun too, especially Henry Silva.

The film is very slow and I can understand why a lot of action fans wouldn't vibe with it. It's not an action film or a thriller in anyway and for me I love it for that. It never feels pretentious in it's approach either. Although, I must it I still can't wrap my head around the significance of Mr. Vargo's daughter.

Overall, Ghost Dog is a transcendant meditation into the code of the samurai. Brutal, enlightening and entertaining. Some great Seijun Suzuki references in here too.

An abhorrent stain of a film. Danny Dyer may have been an entertaining culturally relevant character in British society back in the late nineties, but he's about as funny here as a burnt lemon.

A film that glorifies unrealistic interpretations of drug addictions, is inherently sexist and just straight up not funny. Never have I heard someone say the c word so many times, thinking that it was the peak of comedy.

Sloppily shot and edited, a horrendous script and highlights everything I dislike with my country. There is a very specific audience for this film and I don't like that audience.

The only reason that this isn't 1 star, is that I liked the character of Kenny. Terriblely handled but the actor gives a decent performance. There was one joke about UK politics that kind of made me half chuckle. Oh and Baggy Tros is on the soundtrack.

Bong Joon Ho has crafted two of the greatest films of the 21st century, Parasite and Memories Of Murder. So naturally everyone, including myself, was very excited for his latest release. I can definitely say that Mickey 17 is a good film. Is it great? I'm not really sure.

The first thing to comment on is how well acted this film is. Robert Pattinson has always been fantastic and this film just shows how brilliant his range and use of accents is. I think he plays the difference between his two clones so well. Naomi Ackie is really good too and the whole ing cast are strong. Mark Ruffalo gives the strangest performance I've seen him do in a long while; but Toni Collete maybe feels a little too underutilised.

The film is well directed. There's some solid framing choices in the cinematography, it's really well edited. The score isn't that prominent but I appreciated the use of different motifs. The set design maybe could have been more interesting but it wasn't bad.

The script is interesting. I was very invested with pretty much everything up until the arrest scene. Then I think the film falls into a very weak second half. Mickey 17 has a nice concept but I feel like it doesn't explore it as much as I'd like. The overall plot ends up feeling very small scale and there's a lack of larger themes here.

The story is sacrificed for the satire and that works for the first half, yet in the second half I found myself becoming a bit tired of it all. Don't get me wrong this film can be really funny, but it all becomes a bit too obvious. Strong satire is that which is not always easy to see. Here it does feel like the message is a bit too repetitive.

I did like Mickey 17, yet this does feel like a very subdued Bong Joon Ho. It's a silly good time, but nothing more. I was hoping for something more philosophically challenging, but oh well.

Life has become very hectic once again, causing me to not have much time to write my reviews. Thankfully I've kept up with the cinema releases, and therefore will be releasing these in a flurry. So go check out the others too!

The Brutalist is cinema at it's best. A triumph of drama, experimentalism and historically relevant topics. It was such a fantastic experience from start to finish and one of the rare few films nowadays that actually is unpredictable and orginal.

First, the performances. Adrian Brody is so deserving of that best actor win, he controls the screen with such pathos and fury. Guy Pearce bounces back with maybe the most charasmatic villain performance of the decade. Great to see that Felicity Jones is also still doing well for herself and giving immaculate performances too. The whole ing cast are just superb.

On a technical level this film is perfection. The filmmakimg is both daring and so polished. Every chaotic moment feels not only earnt but grandiose in it's attempt to challenge the audience. Nothing is expected. The score is a masterpiece in it's own right, god I love avant garde jazz interpretations. The set design is immaculate. The film is so well edited and makes for a bewitching watch.

There's two scenes in this film that have had such an impact on me. The train explosion and the adventure to the marble mountains. They left me completely in awe and the only other recent film to give me this emotion was the substance. Utter cinematic perfection.

The script is very good, the dialogue is so strong. There's so many themes and interpretations to explore here, a true academic work. A lot of people seem to prefer the first half to the second. I can understand why. The first half is very traditional cinema, it goes to all those expected places and it's very good at doing so. It feels like something from the golden era of independent cinema (70s or 90s, whichever works for you). he second half delves straight to the other end of this. It's completely experimental and it changes the whole nature of the story. I think the second half is where the film transcends into the masterpiece that it is. The first is very good, but that second is why I love cinema.

The only choice I haven't quite come to understand yet is the epilogue. I'm sure that will come on rewatch.

The Brutalist and The Substance are the two films that really give me hope for the future of cinema. Absolutely inspirational works. I think the Substance might just be slighlty better but it's very close. Go see The Brutalist on the largest screen ever, if your like me where it's just released in the UK.

Anora is legendary social - realist Sean Baker's latest addition to his catalogue of hilariously heart wrenching pieces of film. Is it good? Absolutely. Is it incredibly challenging and at times very uncomfortable? Yes, yes it is.

I really wasn't invested in the first act of the film. The extreme levels of sex, felt basically pornographic. The characters really didn't interest me. It was beautifully shot, but I just didn't care.

Then we get the arrival of the bodyguards and the film has a most welcome change. The script focuses more on it's characters and the dialogue exchanges were fantastic. Watching this quartet of idiots try to find an even bigger idiot was so entertaining. It absolutely dragged in parts, but I didn't mind. The undercurrent of dread was handled really well.

The final act is good, but dare I say that the parents felt way too stereotypical. Anyway the final scene, is absolutely devasting. The film almost ends on a light note before it snatches that away. I left the cinema almost in a state of complete shock.

Anora is incredibly well made. Mikey Maddison is very deserving of that best actress award. The cinematography is stunning, the soundtrack choices are very solid. It's fantastically edited and the whole ing cast are superb.

Yet, I can't help but think that Anora could have benefited from more focus on the titular character herself. I felt like I never got to know her and I wish I had. Even though she's this constant, fiery presence she's never fully explored. We can clearly see how damaged she is but I wish it dipped beyond the surface.

I understand why Anora won best picture. It's not my preferred choice, but it is very good. I can't say I liked Anora but I definitely experienced it and won't forget about it for a long time.

Life has become very hectic once again, causing me to not have much time to write my reviews. Thankfully I've kept up with the cinema releases, and therefore will be releasing these in a flurry. So go check out the others too!

Conclave is a really good piece of cinema. It's absolutely worthy of the critical acclaim and it's award season success. However, it suffers from a very weak final act which almost destroys the whole film.

The cinematography here is absolutely flawless. An advanced understanding of framing and space is utilised by Stéphane Fontaine in perfect fashion. The set design is just absolutely luscious. The editing style is perfect, quiet but energetic when needed. It matches the solid score, though I must say that the score does get a little repetitive. Some more interesting arrangements of the motifs could have been good.

The performances on display here are amazing: Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, they all give their absolute best. It's a joy to watch them interact and clash. Yet the two real stars of this theatrical ficaso are Lucian Msamati and Sergio Castellito. The power and prescence in their performances is second to none. I do wish Isabella Rossellini got a bit more to work with though.

The first two acts of this film are written in solid fashion. All the character motivations are fascinating, the conflicts are thrilling and the light humour works well. Then we get to what is a very predictable final act and what to me feels like a very odd final 10 minutes. Not really sure what that revelation adds to the story. It's kind of disappointing because I was so invested in the script but by the end everything was too simple and I just couldn't feel satisfied. Also there was a bit too much of telling and not showing, for me to consider this screenplay truly one of the best.

Conclave on a technical and directing level is phenomenal, Edward Berger has created a very good piece of cinema here. Just a shame Peter Straughan's script couldn't quite keep up with it.

Dogman is just great. Easily one of the best animated films of recent memory. It absolutely knows what it is and has better writing than most of the films from this year so far.

I really like the animation style of this film, it's cartoonish and wacky. Matching the energy of that furiously fun, fast paced, musical editing. The colours are so vibrant and the creativity is in abundance throughout the whole flick. The performances are all great, surprisingly Pete Davidson makes for a good voice actor.

The main concept is absolutely ludicrous and thankfully Dogman doesn't take itself seriously at all. The humour works for the most part, there's quite a few welcome adult jokes here. It brilliantly satires the ever so tired superhero genre and also manages to tell a heartfelt story about fatherhood and child neglect.

I have to be honest, the final act is a bit too easy and Ricky Gervais character feels like a bit of an after thought. There's some dialogue issues, but nothing terrible.

I had a lot of fun with Dogman, it's just so silly and yet kind of heartwarming. Great watch for the whole family.

Sofia Coppola's directorial debut is an absolute masterpiece. Her vision is so well realised and a complete pleasure to watch it unfold. The soundtrack from air is so beautiful and the performances are excellent. I don't really want to go into detail on this one, you just have to experience it for yourself. Beautifully haunting cinematic perfection.

Can we please hire Osgood Perkins a good screenwriter? This man is such a solid director but he can't write a good script to save his life. It's a shame because the marketing for this film had me so excited.

The first act was a lot of fun, I could excuse the fact that the dialogue felt like it was written by an edgy 13 year old. The kills were ridiculously gruesome, it was all so stupidly funny. Then we got to the 2nd act and things started to go down hill. I couldn't give less of a toss about the father-son relationship. If it wasn't for Theo James and the solid direction I would've found it a very difficult watch.

Then the other brother returns and the script descends into complete chaos. The ending is so unsatisfying and the whole final half of this film is so disappointing. The actors all give decent performances and the staging, lighting, blocking is all nice because Osgood Perkins can direct. He just can't write.

The monkey was cute though.

Life has become very hectic once again, causing me to not have much time to write my reviews. Thankfully I've kept up with the cinema releases, and therefore will be releasing these in a flurry. So go check out the others too!

September 5 is exceptionally well made. It's an adrenaline inducing experience that is tightly shot, well written and well acted.

I'm usually not a fan of lots of quick cuts and very close up framing, yet my god it's used fabulously here. You really feel the tension and claustrophobia, it had me on the edge of my seat for the entire runtime. I left the cinema absolutely psyched. Masterfully directed, really brings out some very solid performances.

The screenplay is good and very much deserving of that Oscar nomination. However there are a few dialogue issues, especially that scene with the police. Also the age of time is way too difficult to follow. Yet the use of mostly a single location makes for such an exciting watch.

Obviously, this film has come underfire for it's political views on the Israel and Palestine conflict. I don't think the filmmakers tended to actually be pro any one side. They just showed the reality of the event. Would it have been better if they gave more context to the situation and explained the full history, yes. Yet also I'm not aware of when this film came into production so it could just be unfortunate timing.

Overall, September 5 as a cinema experience is dynamic filmmaking at it's finest. I really hope the team behind it continue to do more together. Stirring stuff for real.

Life has become very hectic once again, causing me to not have much time to write my reviews. Thankfully I've kept up with the cinema releases, and therefore will be releasing these in a flurry. So go check out the others too!

Companion is an enjoyable cinema experience. It has a killer soundtrack, good performances and a fun concept. Yet the more I think on it, the more I realise that it's a just ok film, that could have been a lot better.

First the positives. The whole cast are great, they all bring their own unique energy to the film and Jack Quaid again proves himself as one of the most deserving Nepo babies in Hollywood situation. Nice to see more of Lukas Gage, he's such a promising, rising star. Sophie Thatcher is good yes, though her line delivery is occasionally weak.

The film's comedic moments work well and the dialogue overall is solid. It's well edited and the soundtrack is banging.

However, here's the thing. This feels like a weak interpretation of what is a very good, yet unoriginal concept. Instead of being a deeply, disturbing look at an android waking up to the fact that they've lived their life as a slave and taking vengeance. It's a more light hearted take on it. It doesn't take any risks, there's nothing new here. Also that final act absolutely drags, just kill the bloke for gods sake. A lot of the ing cast don't feel very relevant to the overall plot. Character motivations don't add up at all.

Also final thing, the filmmaking on display here is very weak. There's barely any interesting shots, it's all the expected ones. For a directorial debut, it really doesn't make me think that Drew Hancock is going to have an interesting career.

I wish Companion, was a darker, more interesting watch. The problem with a lot of modern cinema is that studios and filmmakers are too scared to take risks. They stick to the basic concepts and don't want to get too experimental. I understand this is to make the money they want but also it means proper cinema fans aren't leaving satisfied. We need more Eddie Alcazar's in the game.

Life has become very hectic once again, causing me to not have much time to write my reviews. Thankfully I've kept up with the cinema releases, and therefore will be releasing these in a flurry. So go check out the others too!

Heart Eyes is the rare example of a good slasher film. It's got all the standard slasher quirks but puts it's own spin on things.

What helps Heart Eyes the most is that the main two characters are so likeable; both actors give a great performance and their chemistry and dynamic is a slight spoof on rom coms, which is fun. You want them to survive and actually root for them which is rare in the slasher genre.

The film is decently shot, yet I do think the editing doesn't give the viewer enough time to fully appreciate the cinematography. A bit over reliant on those quick cuts, which is a shame. Though I did appreciate the unrelenting pace of everything.

The kills are fun and at times brutal, but here's the thing; they aren't brutal enough. There's a few nice ones but most are simple slashes and stabs. The practical gore effects are nice but they could be used more. I'm not saying more horrifying kills, but be more creative.

The script has a solid structure and the dialogue is mostly fine. The humour is great, this film is ridiculously funny. The soundtrack could've been better at times, but that's just personal preference. I do think the villains were a bit too weak and there are still the moments where things don't quite add up. Oh and that ending scene was so unnecessary.

Yet Heart Eyes is a slasher film, so the main question is: was I entertained? Yes, I definitely was. It's a bloody good time, not the greatest slasher film of all time but it's the best one we've had in a while.

Another short review! I'm not the target audience for Bridget Jones. I'm not a midlde aged white woman, I haven't seen the other films. My only thoughts are:

1) Hugh Grant is great.
2) The Peak/Lake District (Can't which) looked beautiful.
3) God this was terribly cringe.
4) I think a horror twist on Bridget Jones would be great because that woman is actually insane.

Look I get why this has done well. Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh are outstanding. The script is solid, the sentimental stuff is all nicely there. I even teared up at the end. So why do I not rate it that highly. Well I don't know, just the more I've thought about it, the less I think of it.

Again it's all well done but it feels like there's something missing. It's almost too lighthearted. I really don't know my thoughts on this one. So I'll leave it a decent 7.

I have never in my life watched a single sketch from SNL, being that we don't have it over here in England and the type of comedy isn't really my style. Yet I found myself quite enthralled by Saturday Night. It's far from perfect and yet there is a definite charm to it.

I really like the fast paced chaotic style of it all. The film boasts some excellent long takes and a furious camera. It's edited together snappily and really makes you feel the tension of our protagonist. The jazz score is just exceptional too. The set design has some solid work on it too.

The performances are good around the board, Gabriel LaBelle makes for a good lead. Rachel Sennot, Nicholas Braun, Willem Dafoe are some of the highlights from a superb ing cast. Yet my two personal stand outs are J.K. Simmon's in maybe his most surprising role yet; and Cory Michael Smith who is so similar to Checky Chase that it's actually shocking.

The script has it's ups and downs. When focused on the production side of things, I'm completely invested. The will it air or not, dilema is fun with the multitude of problems. The pace and dialogue is consistently good. However, the script falters when it decides to focus on certain sketches. Again the humour doesn't work for me and I found myself losing interest. I also felt like too much time was devoted to finding that rogue actor and the film almost lost me. The story is trying to juggle a bit too much and a more focused script could have solved a lot of its problems.

When Saturday Night keeps it's pace and style it's a lot of fun. When it breaks that pace, it doesn't have enough to keep me that engaged. I'm aware I'm not the target audience for this film but I still think they did a decent job.
