I suppose I should use this space to pay something of a tribute to David Lynch, on what would have been his 79th birthday. Even still, I’m finding it so difficult to figure out what I could possibly productively provide, amid the vast, overwhelming yet deeply moving sea of eulogies already in the ether, and even more so, struggling to put my personal relationship to the man and his work, which has existed in some form for about a decade…

My love is pure as the universe,
Honest as an ashtray

There’s something about watching Gena Rowlands … Let me start here: Earlier today (now yesterday, at the time of actually writing this) I was at a gas station, and not too far behind me was a young couple in the midst of a heated argument. Look at me, I'm Woody Allen. I'm quirky. I'm bad with women. I'm afraid of commitment. I'm neurotic. I love New York City. I'm Woody Allen. I'm neurotic and quirky. I make references to art and entertainment that you also probably know of. I'm intellectual. I'm cynical. I'm neurotic and obsessive. I'm neurotic. And quirky. I'm just like you! Like my movie, please.

Look closely, and you can see me jumping off the bridge.

Once again, Diane Keaton is the only remotely good thing in the t. And the black-and-white photography is kinda pretty, I guess.

When I wanted to do the rape scene, I explained to [Mara Lorenzio] that I was going to hit her and rape her. There was no emotional relationship between us, because I had put a clause in all the women's contracts stating that they would not make love with the director. We had never talked to each other. I knew nothing about her. We went to the desert with two other people: the photographer and a technician. No one else.…
