I knew nothing about this going into it. All I had heard about it was someone I follow on Instagram telling everyone that they need to watch this film immediately because it’s amazing. After constantly seeing that, I went into this with little to no expectations because I wasn’t sure whether the humour would be my cup of tea and that would greatly effect how much I enjoyed it.

It wasn’t bad at all, but the humour wasn’t always my cup of tea and I found it more repetitive as the film went on. I appreciate how creative it is and how the humour is embedded, but it wasn’t for me. I can understand why people love it as much as they do though!

Like a lot of people, my experience of lockdown was defined by the music I listened to, the things I watched, and the books I read. SOUR was one of the many things that helped me get through, what many consider to be, one of the hardest years.

I’ve been wanting to watch this documentary since it came out, but never got around to it until today. I really liked the way it was done with a mix of footage from the studio, the road trip, talking heads, and performances of the songs. Having the story behind the song immediately followed by a performance of the songs (or vice versa), made me develop a new appreciation and love for the songs that I didn’t have before.

I really liked getting to hear some of the songs in the early stages of their development (with Brutal being a particular favourite), and it was really interesting to see how they developed from the original voice memos or written notes to the songs I’ve spent the past four years listening to. I also enjoyed getting to hear some of the different remixes for the songs that I otherwise may not have heard had I not watched this.

SOUR, I love you and you will always be famous <3

There’s so much that I loved about this, but the use of AI throughout really bugged me and hindered my enjoyment of the film.

I loved how much they leaned into the talk show element of it. Going into it, I wasn’t expecting it to be a mix of found footage, news footage, talk show footage, and behind the scenes footage but I’m not mad about it! I thought it was really well edited and the difference between each type of footage wasn’t as glaringly obvious as I expected it to be.

Which brings me to my main issue with this film, the use of AI. It’s been discussed to no end already, and it’s going to continue to be discussed far into the future so here’s my two pennies worth: I don’t think AI belongs in creative spaces. I understand using it as a tool to help with school work or to answer a question, or to quickly create revision resources that would’ve taken hours otherwise. But I don’t agree with using it to create art in any form. The fact that AI generates ideas based on things that already exist means that credit isn’t being given where credit is due and artists aren’t being recognised for the art they created. That’s my opinion on it, and I’m going to stop talking about it now otherwise I’ll spiral into a rant which will take away from the things I liked about the film.

The performances were really good, and there were times that I found myself consciously acknowledging that I was watching a film and not an actual talk show! The behind the scenes footage felt true to life (based on what I’ve read and watched about the making of talk shows), and the chaos that goes into it was perfectly captured! The way the tension is slowly built throughout before it all comes to a head in the third act is really effective and left me feeling incredibly on edge, and I’m also pleased about the way it explains the ending in a show-not-tell way that is still easy for the audience to understand while working well to bring the tension build up to a head.

Overall, this would’ve been a solid four stars if it weren’t for the use of AI. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time and I love how the audience was immersed in the talk-show element!

This review may contain spoilers.

I stand by my previous statement that the best way to watch a film whose primary target audience is young children is to watch said film in a cinema full of young children!

This wasn’t half bad! As I said in my review for the original film, I didn’t grow up watching Lilo & Stitch so I don’t have the nostalgic connection to it that many others do but I didn’t think this remake was too bad. There were some changes (that many aren’t happy about, which is fair) but it stayed true enough to the core story that the changes didn’t bother me too much.

My favourite part about this was the reactions from the children around me. I watched this on bank holiday Monday so the cinema was packed, and the reactions from those around me during specific moments in the film made the experience that much better! The most memorable one was when they were trying to revive Stitch (even though there was no way Disney were going to kill him) and all you could hear was the cries of children, terrified they were about to watch Stitch die. Only for them to stop the second he started breathing again.

Overall, I didn’t think this was too bad. If I had to pick between the two, I’d choose the original but I think this holds its own as the Lilo & Stitch for a new generation!

Full disclosure, I had only seen bits of this growing up and never the full film. There was always a lot of Stitch merchandise in the shops as I was growing up, and it kind of put me off watching the film because I saw how much other people loved and treasured it and I was worried that I wouldn't love it as much as everyone else so I put off watching it for years.

With the live-action film being released (and the fact that I'm going to watch it tomorrow), I thought it would be best to finally watch the original and I loved it! It was so heartwarming but also incredibly funny! I now understand why Stitch is everywhere, he's an icon! I loved how his character had a lot of depth, rather than just being a bad creature turned good because of love. The reasons behind it made logical sense with his personality and the things that were caused by the experiment. I find children's films that treat the target audience as if they can't understand everything tend to be on the bad side, compared to those that allow the target audience to think about what they're being shown by not spelling it out for them.

I really liked the development of Lilo and Nani’s relationship! I liked how Stitch played a part in the development of their relationship, but wasn’t the main catalyst of it. Also, I loved Mr Bubbles and the role he played throughout the story. Another thing I thought was really well done were the characters of Jumba and Pleakley. Initially, I thought they were going to be the typical ‘Disney villains’ but I liked how they had depth and their own agendas that ended up being altered at points.

Overall, this was a really sweet film and it’s definitely one I’ll be watching when I need something comforting!

I really love films about vampires, but I adore 80s films about vampires! They have a certain charm to them that other vampire films lack, and it’s part of the reason that I love them so much!

I wasn’t too sure what to expect going into this as I hadn’t heard much about it (which was probably best, looking back). I loved how the plot mirrored the tv show that was featured in the film and how that was used by the characters to aid them in their individual battles. My favourite thing about this (as with anything that they’re used in) was the practical effects! They were amazing, especially during the final act! The deaths were truly something and I love how vampire lore was utilised (I also love how vampire lore differs depending on what you watch or read).

Overall, this was an incredibly fun and entertaining watch and I’m looking forward to watching the sequel, remake, and the sequel remake!

This review may contain spoilers.

I didn’t have many expectations going into this (except for the stunts, I expected those to be epic), and I left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.

I’ll start with the things I did enjoy. The stunts were amazing (as to be expected with these films), with my personal favourite being the submarine sequence which was breathtaking even though it sent my thalassophobia into overdrive. The plane sequence was also cool, but I wish it had ended slightly differently. I loved the dynamic between Benji, Grace, Paris, and Degas and I found their scenes to be the ones that held my attention the most and I wish we had got to see more of them!

I also really liked the dual fight sequence when Ethan was on the submarine and the group was at the base/house. I love the way it was edited and the cuts and transitions between the two fights! At the beginning when Ethan and Grace are taken captive, post-fight Ethan reminded me of Kirk in Star Trek The Original Series with his slashed shirt covered in blood. It was all very Amok Time coded!

Now onto the things I didn’t like. First, let’s address the elephant in the room: Luther’s death. I knew that not everybody was going to make it out alive, but the fact that Luther is dead and Ethan is still alive after that plane sequence baffles me. The fact that all of them are still alive kind of defeats the purpose of Luther’s death (in my opinion), because his death showed the audience that no one is safe yet he’s the only one who died.

I’ve seen a lot of people mention their dislike for the thirty minutes of exposition at the start and I agree with them. For me, it felt so discombobulated and left me feeling so confused as to what was actually going on. This then carried on through the rest of the film and it took a while for my brain to catch up and come to grips with what was going on. With that, I found Ethan’s scenes to be really boring (with the exception of the two big stunts) and it got to the point where the fact that he was still alive was the most unrealistic part of this film (and that’s saying something). There’s been loads of memes over the years about the films being called Mission: Impossible, despite the missions very clearly NOT being impossible and I really felt that during this film.

Overall, I was really disappointed and bored by this. I was hoping this would be a good ending to a franchise that has done really well over the years, but it didn’t do it for me.

I’m so glad that I watched this so I never have to watch it again!

It was really good, there’s absolutely no denying that. It just grossed me out more than I care to it and I had no plans to do drugs in the future prior to watching this film, but I most certainly will NOT be doing drugs in the future after watching this film. My only knowledge of drugs comes from what we were taught in PSHE at school, books, tv shows, and films, but this seems like a pretty accurate representation of the effects drugs have on people and their lives.

The visuals were insane and were quite possibly my favourite part about this! There are so many iconic shots from this that I instantly recognised from where they’ve been referenced in other things. I love how the fourth wall was broken on more than one occasion as it added to the films raw realness and I also loved the use of a voiceover along with the breaking of the fourth wall.

I liked the way the story (in my opinion) wasn’t trying to be a moral tale about why you shouldn’t do drugs because they are bad, it just tells the story like it is and - like the characters - the audience is left to make their own decision and have their own thoughts about it. I think that’s one of the reasons why it works so well.

I watched this on DVD and I really liked how the main menu had the “choose” speech written to cover the screen and within that there was the option to “choose play”, “choose scenes”, “choose setup”, and “choose memories of trainspotting”, while different clips from the film played in the background. It’s something that I found really cool and I appreciated it. I really liked it when DVD’s have creative menus!

Overall, I really enjoyed this one (even if it did gross me out). It’s a really well-made film and I think everyone should watch it once (even if it’s the one and only time they watch it).

One thing I really enjoyed about this was the narrative choice. I really liked how it mirrored a circular narrative and the use of a voiceover to recall the events of the film as they happened. Having the information from the opening sequence allowed me to have an idea about what was going on, while leaving the details of the event a mystery.

I loved the concept of the “no sleep” thing as it added to the tense atmosphere along with the setting being broad daylight, compared to dusk or night time like other horror films. It made it scarier, on my opinion, because there is nowhere to hide and it creates a sense of confusion with whether what the characters are seeing is real or whether it’s caused by sleep deprivation.

As is almost always the case with older horror films, I loved the practical effects! Were they always great? No. But I loved seeing them in use nonetheless. I did find this film to be slow at times, but I still enjoyed it!

Overall, this was a solid horror film that didn’t rely (at all, I think, please correct me if I’m wrong) on jump scares and did a really good job at creating a tense atmosphere that left me feeling full of dread. I’m interested to see how the 1978 remake and The Invasion compare to this as and when I get around to watching them!

I can see why this is one of the lowest rated films in my queue.

All of the characters were insufferable and annoyed me to the point that I seriously considered turning it off and just not finishing it. There wasn’t even really a plot to it, the characters were just saying “I bet you x amount of money that you can’t get x to sleep with you within x amount of time”, then they’d complete the bet, then they would find a different target, and repeat. It was nowhere near as good as Cruel Intentions, but at least Cruel Intentions 2 had some semblance of a plot and clear links to the original film. This one only shares the same name and I’m not even sure if Katheryn and Sebastian were mentioned? To be fair, I stopped paying attention after they went on the school trip. Speaking of, I completely forgot that they were meant to be at school. At least the other two had scenes of them in the school environment outside of dorm rooms and the outside areas of campus.

Overall, I would not watch this again. If I do, it’s probably because I’m doing a marathon or rewatch of some sort or I’m ill and need something to watch that I don’t have to pay attention to and can fall asleep while watching.

Final Destination Bloodlines 503o73 2025 - ★★★★ (contains spoilers) https://letterboxd.conexionsite.com/emshobbies_/film/final-destination-bloodlines/ letterboxd-review-892375836 Mon, 19 May 2025 20:13:03 +1200 2025-05-17 No Final Destination Bloodlines 2025 4.0 574475 <![CDATA[

This review may contain spoilers.

I’ve been looking forward to this since it was first announced, and it’s safe to say that it did not disappoint!

First, I’d like to acknowledge how much thought and care was put into all the references and call backs to the previous instalments in the franchise! There were a lot of references to Final Destination 2, which I loved because it’s my favourite instalment of the Final Destination franchise! There were so many references to the log truck and we got a Clear Rivers mention in 2025!! Some other references I noticed (even though I’m sure there’s many more that I didn’t catch on this first watch):

- one of the license plates was the same license plate that Carter’s car had in Final Destination, and one of the other license plates was a reference to Flight 180

- several of the deaths were references to previous deaths in the franchise, the main ones I noticed were the log truck and (almost) drowning from Final Destination 2, and the runaway train and crushed by a pole from Final Destination 3 (although I’m sure that there are many more)

- literally everything in Iris’s notebook

One thing I wasn’t too sure about going into it was how they were going to handle the “bloodlines” aspect of the story. A consistent part of the Final Destination franchise is the rules, specifically around who dies and in what order they die in. I think that the “bloodlines” aspect was executed really well! I think the angle of “none of us are supposed to exist” was really well executed and I loved how they applied the previously stated rules to this scenario! Everything that was explained made sense within the franchise and there were no loose ends that would leave any room for questions. I was slightly worried that they were going to play it safe and have them figure out a way to save most of the family because that’s what the characters wanted, but I’m so glad they didn’t!

I loved getting an answer as to why William Bludworth is always there to act as a guide, and I loved how it didn’t give the audience a definitive answer as to who (or what) he is and left it up to everyone’s individual interpretations! It was lovely seeing Tony Todd (may he rest in peace) on the big screen to reprise one of his most iconic roles! Richard Harmon and Owen Patrick Joyner stole the show for me (I’m 100% biased though, because I love The 100 and Julie and the Phantoms), but I’m so glad that they’re getting the recognition they deserve!

Overall, this was an incredibly well-crafted, thoughtful, and entertaining addition to the franchise and I’m looking forward to watching it again to see how many other references and call backs I can spot!

Bring back executing fight scenes like they did in the 80s!!

This film has such a wild concept that I was dubious whether the execution would make sense, but I had a blast! Everyone in this film is so oblivious, but it adds to the charm and doesn’t make the story any more unbelievable than it already is.

My favourite part of this film was the fight scenes and the sound effects and visuals that came with them. I love how the execution of the fight scenes immediately gives away how many years it’s been since the film first came out. Watching them ‘punch’ each other and absolutely none of the ‘punches’ making was the best, and the ‘pew pew’ sound effect of the guns were incredible!

I also think we, as a society, should bring back dressing like we’re on holiday in the 80s when we go to the beach! My favourite part of the costumes was Bernie’s sunglasses. The ways real-life pregnancies are hidden in films and tv are always talked about, but the ways that people who are ‘dead’ are made to look ‘dead’ when they’re on screen for a long time are barely ever talked about. I love the use of sunglasses as a tool in this film to allow Bernie to look ‘dead’ while allowing Terry Kiser to blink if need be. Another example of this is in Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again with Charlie Cox’s red glasses.

Overall, this was a fun watch that will definitely become a summer staple for me!

This was so beautiful, both visually and story wise.

The things I loved the most were the cinematography and colour grading, they were absolutely stunning! This film sent me through a whole range of emotions, but the colour grading really emphasised the feeling of comfort during the more tender scenes. The warmer, softer colours reflected the peaceful atmosphere of those scenes and it translated really well through the screen. Similarly, during the more tense scenes the colours are harsher and reflect the chaos and tension really well.

All of the actors did an incredible job and (even though they weren’t exactly the same) I could relate to a lot of the things they were dealing with as a family. Stories like these are really interesting to me because they are so specific, yet they can be applied to a multitude of people and families, even if they’re not exactly the same.

Overall, this is an incredibly beautiful and heartwarming film that I think everyone should watch at least once in their lives.

I wasn’t able to catch this one in cinemas, but I’m so glad I was able to watch it at home! I wasn’t sure how much I was going to enjoy it, but it was really heartwarming and surprisingly funny!

Kieran Culkin was the main highlight of this film for me and he deserved all of the awards that he got for this role! The clips I had seen of his portrayal of Benji were my main motivation for watching this, and he did not disappoint! He added so much depth to a character that could’ve otherwise just been comic relief, and I loved Benji all the more as a result.

Another thing I really loved about this film was the circular narrative! I’m a sucker for a circular narrative and some of my favourite films of all time have them (I’m looking at you, The Outsiders). The use of a circular narrative rather than a linear narrative was a really nice way to wrap up David and Benji’s development, both as individuals and their relationship.

Overall, I really enjoyed this and I think it’s a really sensitive and interesting perspective on grief and the loneliness that comes with it.

I’ve been wanting to watch this since it first came out three years ago, mainly because I’m a fan of Lili, Danny, and David. I go into Netflix original films with little to no expectations, because they are incredibly hit or miss and I’d rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. This is in no way the best film ever made, but it left me pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it!

I preferred Natalie and Gabe’s story to Natalie and Jake’s story. Natalie and Jake’s story felt very insta-lovey (which is a trope I’m not a massive fan of anyway) and sudden. Even as it went on, it didn’t feel like any depth was created and it was like they were stuck in the honeymoon phase, and the second that began to end they broke up. On the other hand, Natalie and Gabe’s relationship felt like it had years of depth and layers behind it (also I’m a sucker for friends to lovers). I loved watching their relationship develop, and them overcoming obstacles and reaching compromise while navigating parenthood and trying to do what was best for Rosie and themselves.

It took me a minute to get used to the dual timeline, but it didn’t take anything always from the film and I became adjusted fairly quickly. I loved the transitions between the two timelines and I also liked the use of colour grading to differentiate between the two, although I started to notice it less as the film went on. I’m glad that both timelines ended with Natalie being happy, I think it sends a really positive message to young girls (who I feel are the target audience for this film) that even if the decision or choice you’ve made doesn’t always feel like the right one, you will always end up happy as long as you make the best of it!

Overall, is it great? No. But it has three of my favourite actors in it so I enjoyed it nonetheless :)

I was looking through my watchlist for something to watch (I’m trying to get better at choosing films from there, rather than endlessly scrolling for something to watch, only to rewatch the same film I’ve seen a million times haha) and this film caught my eye as I couldn’t recall adding it to my watchlist. After looking at the cast, I assumed I wanted to watch it because it starred both Lewis Pullman and Angus Cloud who are two actors that I really enjoy watching.

I’m from England and Greek life isn’t as prevalent here (if at all) as it is in the US, so I can’t speak as to how accurate this film is outside of things I’ve read in the news and seen in tv shows and films, but this was still a lot more harrowing to watch that I expected it to be. I’ve read a lot of news articles about various things that have happened as a result of fraternities and sororities, and I had a feeling about where this film was going by the thirty-minute mark but nothing could prepare me for the way the events unfolded.

The ive and active came to mind in regards to the characters and it was interesting to put them into those two categories and see whether they switched by the end of the film. Todd, Mitch and the rest of the brothers seemed very ive when it came to hazing and the ‘traditions’ of the fraternity, with any disagreement being countered with ‘its tradition’. They were more than happy to blindly accept that everything that they were doing to the pledges was okay because ‘it’s tradition’ and it shouldn’t have to change as a result. On the other hand, Gettys seemed very active when it came to hazing and the ‘traditions’ and he wasn’t afraid to speak up about it even though he was ridiculed and, eventually, (unintentionally) killed for it. He was able to acknowledge the fact that they were ‘traditions’ of the fraternity, but there were some things that were happening that weren’t okay at all. Tom is interesting because initially he seems ive, along with the other brothers, but as the film goes on he becomes more active and begins (to an extent) agreeing with Gettys about whether all of the ‘traditions’ were okay to carry out just because they are ‘traditions’.

Watching the characters develop in this felt how I imagine watching someone become brainwashed feels like. I was shocked at how many of them blindly accepted what was happening to them because they were told that it was a tradition. It could be argued that this is a result of conformity and the pledges desperation to fit in and become a part of the fraternity no matter the cost. Their desperation to become a part of the fraternity caused them to not process what was happening to them and really think about whether it was actually tradition or whether the brothers were doing it for their own amusement.

Overall, this is a really well made film about a topic that (in my opinion) is often glamorised in films and tv but sensationalised in the news. I think everyone should watch this at least once and I hope more films that delve into this subject matter get made.

Over the years I’ve found that 80s high school films can be incredibly hit or miss in of whether I enjoy them or not. This was one that I was slightly dubious about going into, but I had a lot of fun and it made me laugh a lot more than I was expecting it to!

Prior to watching this, my only knowledge of this film came from when Stranger Things used direct intertextuality to reference it in season four, but other than that I knew nothing about this going into it. In hindsight, I’m glad that I knew nothing about it going into it because films where the characters are just hanging out are even more hit or miss for me than 80s high school films. On one hand you have films like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off which I love, but on the other hand you have films like Everybody Wants Some!! which I did not enjoy at all. I think my unconscious biases towards these types of films would’ve probably impacted the way I watched it and my enjoyment of it.

This film is filled with classic 80s high school films stereotypes which adds to the overall charm of it. It’s superficial but the only way I can describe this film is 80s. It’s just so purely, completely, totally 80s in the best way! Obviously some bits haven’t aged well, but that’s to be expected and I think as long as we, as an audience, acknowledge that the cultural and societal norms in the 80s are different to the cultural and societal norms nowadays, the bits that haven’t aged well shouldn’t take away from the overall enjoyment of the film (at least that’s how I look at it).

Overall, this is a really fun, easy, and lighthearted watch and I’m looking forward to revisiting it at some point in the future!

This was a really fun sequel! The X-Men have officially solidified themselves as one of my favourite found families!

One of my favourite plot devices is having the ‘goodies’ and the ‘baddies’ working together to defeat a common enemy. I think it’s an interesting perspective on binary opposites and what happens if and when they have no choice but to work together. The dynamics between the two oppositions were really fun to watch and I hope we get more (reluctant) team ups in the future!

The main thing I really liked in X-Men was the relationships between the characters, and that continued into this instalment. In the previous film, we didn’t really get to see characters outside of Logan, Rogue, Jean, Cyclops, Storm, and Charles interact and it was nice to see them interact with some of the other characters rather than just amongst themselves. I really liked Rogue’s story in this one and her learning to trust herself and others in relationships, and both her and Bobby learning together.

I was slightly underwhelmed with Nightcrawler as a character. Given that his actions are the catalyst for the entire plot of this film, I thought that he would be fleshed out a bit more. He felt a bit more like a throw away that they could cut to when they needed to change it up (in my opinion). Other than Nightcrawler, my only other peeve with this instalment is that it dragged a bit at times and I think it could’ve been a bit shorter than it was, but those are the only two things that really bothered me.

Overall, this was a fun watch! I’ve heard that X-Men: The Last Stand isn’t as good as the previous two instalments, but I’m looking forward to making my way through the rest of the X-Men franchise nonetheless!

The X-Men are more of a found family than The Avengers will ever be (with the exception of the Thunderbolts*)!

Growing up, I never really got into the X-Men films despite being a huge fan of the Marvel films that fell into the Infinity Saga and the Multiverse Saga. However, after the cast was announced for Avengers: Doomsday I figured I had some catching up to do. I went in with little to no expectations and knowing very little about the plot. I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed this film! Obviously it’s not perfect, but it’s better than A LOT of the other films Marvel has put out over the years.

One thing I really liked was the relationships between the characters. They felt like they were a lot more fleshed out than the relationships between other superhero teams (for example, the Avengers who (for me) felt like they were cosplaying as a family but weren’t anything more than work colleagues, with a few exceptions). The relationships between Logan and Rogue, and Charles, Storm, Jean and Cyclops were a particular highlight.

There were some moments where it felt like it dragged, but I think that was down to the conventional structure of superhero films and my brain using that to predict what was going to happen next. The story was interesting and the dynamics between the characters were fun, so that more than made up for it!

Overall, I really enjoyed this and I’m excited to delve into the other instalments of this franchise!

The CGI throughout this franchise has never been great, but the CGI in this one takes the cake for being the worst. With that being said, there are several things from this one that I do enjoy. I liked the performances from Shantel VanSanten and Haley Webb (although my love for One Tree Hill and Teen Wolf may be making me biased). One thing that I love is the opening credits and I’d love to see them do something similar in Final Destination Bloodlines! I also like the transition from the end of the final scene into the credits, however cheesy it may be. Twenty years later and this film is still just as important and prevalent in today’s society as it was when it was first released. I would like to preface this review by saying that I haven’t read the book, so I can’t speak to how it compares and/or whether the things that I liked or disliked are in the book or not.

As is the case with most of the other reviews of this film that I’ve read, I adored the cinematography!! For me, it really added to the overall atmosphere of the film and really emphasised the emotions that the characters were feeling. For example, when the Fishes show up at Jasper’s house looking for Kee, the chaos of getting Kee out of the house is shot using close ups that put you right in the action. However, the aftermath, when Kee is safe and the Fishes execute Jasper, is shot with medium and long shots which made me feel disconnected from the action and more of an observer (as Theo was in the scene) and it made me feel more connected to the characters and what they’re going through.

I wasn’t a fan of the ending being open-ended and it didn’t sit right with me. As I mentioned previously, I haven’t read the book so I don’t know whether the ending of the book is also open-ended, but I wasn’t a fan of the film ending with the boat coming and Kee and her baby bobbing on the water and then the credits rolling without knowing what happened to them. If it was purposeful, my interpretation of it is that they wanted the audience to imagine what would happen to Kee and her baby in the society the audience live in and the way society is progressing. I was two years old when this came out, but watching it now when 2027 is two years away I found myself fearing for Kee and her baby because although this film is a dystopian, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if something similar happened in today’s society.

Overall, I think this is a really well made and thought provoking film and it would have been five stars but I wasn’t a fan of the ending being open-ended hence why I decided on four and a half stars.

Mikey Madison is a star and I’m so happy that she’s getting the recognition she deserves!!

There’s so much that I loved about this film!! First of all, as mentioned previously, Mikey Madison did an incredible job and gave an incredible performance that made Ani a really memorable character. One thing I wasn’t expecting was the amazing needle drops, let alone them being songs that have constantly been in the background of my life (thanks radio!) since I was younger. The second Greatest Day started playing my potential love for this film was solidified, it sets the tone of the film really well! The cinematography was gorgeous and I also really liked the mis-en-scene overall (I always think mis-en-scene is incredibly underrated as a film element, I really should mention it more). The costumes were amazing and (although I would never wear them all) I was mentally adding them all to my wardrobe that I have in my head. Additionally, I loved how Ani had tinsel in her hair, it looked so gorgeous and sparkly!

There were times where it did drag a little bit, but it wasn’t enough to take me out of the story. To be honest, I was a bit intimidated by the runtime and was worried that the length increased the probability of the film potentially dragging on and becoming boring, but it didn’t drag on anywhere near as much as I thought it would!

Overall, I adored this film and I’ll definitely be revisiting it in the future!

I know this is a lot of peoples’ favourite rom-com/chick-flick but it really wasn’t for me. It had its moments, but other than that I thought it was meh.

My main gripe was that I found Annie to be so annoying that I was on the verge of rolling my eyes every time she came on screen (which was a lot). She was tolerable when she was with the rest of the group, but other than that I couldn’t stand her (which may have been the point, but it ruined the rest of the film for me).

The scenes that are constantly labelled ‘iconic’ definitley deserve the label because they’re the only times I found myself laughing at the film. One thing I was expecting was the dresses used in the iconic poster to be featured in the film. I’m not sure whether it’s because every time I’ve seen something to do with Bridesmaids I’ve also seen those dresses so I automatically assumed that they would be used in the film, but I was slightly disappointed that they weren’t.

Overall, this one wasn’t for me. I can see why people enjoy it, but it wasn’t my cup of tea and that’s okay too :)

This was so insane in the best way, more films need to be like this one!

The premise itself seemed entertaining enough; the transportation of an unknown creature is linked to a lot of deaths that occur in a singular location. What I was not expecting was the humanoid creature to perform constant body swaps in order to take the eyes of its victims so it could gain access to everything they’ve seen. So it that respect, I got a lot more than I was expecting and I wasn’t mad about it!

I always love watching horror films that use practical effects because I think they look so much better some of the big budget CGI that films can have (even when the practical effects are really obvious and they don’t look great, they’re still miles better than some of the CGI that films can have). The design of the kills and deaths linked really well with the motive which I really liked as the way the kills are executed aren’t always linked to the motive and it made a nice change.

Another thing I loved was that the main location was a train. In my opinion, trains are an incredibly underrated location for horror and thriller films. They can feel incredibly claustrophobic on a normal journey, but when you’ve got a humanoid creature chasing you? There’s only so far you can run until there’s (literally) nowhere else to go. The train was really well utilised and I firmly believe more horror and thriller films should be set on trains!

Overall, this is a fun horror film that doesn’t take itself too seriously and might surprise the viewer with some deviations from the conventions of the horror genre.

I’m going to be honest. If it weren’t for the fact that I’m planning on going to the cinema to watch The ant 2, I probably would’ve never watched this. I want to preface the rest of this review my saying that I hate maths. I’ve always struggled with it and as a result most things that are maths related I haven’t liked because it confuses my brain. The premise of this film caught my interest, but as the film went on I started to become bored. As a result, I ended up doing other things while the film was playing otherwise I knew I would end up turning it off and never picking it back up.

Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal’s performances were the main highlight of the film for me, although I wish Bernthal had been in it more. Anna Kendrick was also really good and I wish we had got to see more of her character, especially her relationship with Christian. The action sequences were really well done and the context provided a layer of humour to the film that otherwise wouldn’t have been there.

The script was lacking something for me. I don’t know what, but it didn’t hold my attention and I think had it been slightly different, I may have liked the film more. Or maybe it was all the conversation around numbers and maths, I don’t know.

Overall, this isn’t one that I’d necessarily watch again but I will watch the sequel and hopefully it will be (even slightly) better than this one.

Kill Bill 2l1w2x Vol. 1, 2003 - ★★★★★ https://letterboxd.conexionsite.com/emshobbies_/film/kill-bill-vol-1/ letterboxd-review-880135111 Mon, 5 May 2025 08:35:32 +1200 2025-05-03 No Kill Bill: Vol. 1 2003 5.0 24 <![CDATA[

I was slightly dubious going into this, because it’s so hyped up and I really wanted to enjoy it. Turns out I had nothing to be worried about, because I loved this so much!!

I love everything about this! I really like it when films are broken up into chapters within a linear narrative as it makes it easier for my brain to process what’s happened and I think it makes for a really nice layout. I also loved the colour grading and how it developed with every location change. The amount of needle drops in this film was insane and they all worked so well with the scenes they featured in!

Honestly, there’s nothing that I can think of that I disliked about this film. The only thing that irritates me slightly is that I didn’t watch it sooner! I’m glad I’ve watched it now though and I really hope that Kill Bill: Vol. 2 is just as good!

If nothing else, the one thing I need in Avengers: Doomsday is Joaquin helping Bob trust himself and his thoughts again! Partly because I think it would be a really nice dynamic and also partly because I love Lewis and Danny and having Joaquin and Bob interact on screen would make my Top Gun: Maverick heart so happy :)
