As a stutterer, Kyla’s character is so painful for me to watch. The way people infantilize and mock her… The way she’s unable to speak during the moments she really wants to.
Having a stutter is emotional/social purgatory. I’m damned to be pitied and isolated, and this is one of the few movies that acknowledges that reality for stutterers worldwide. It’s portrayed in a subtle way, but it’s still very validating for me.
