I cannot overstate how good Ben Whishaw is as Richard II. It is one of the best acting performances I have ever seen. This is worth watching just for him. That said, the cast is uniformly excellent. 5 stars for the acting.

The key to the film is the chemistry between the two leads. Orson Welles is perfectly cast as Rochester, and Joan Fontaine is excellent as Jane. While I generally imagine Jane Eyre with a bit more fire, Fontaine's take still clearly possesses the intelligence, will, and inner strength that has made the character so beloved to generations.
