Things I think are a bit over praised:
think the edit draws a bit too much attention to itself, not so much in the montage of architectural landmarks, although it does get tedious, again these thing look good, but in the dialogue scenes there’s cutaways that lay on the subtext a bit think.
I like Brody as much as the next guy but swear to god this movie gives him sad…
I think this is the first time Eggars has felt constrained by his own niche he’s carved out for himself.
Period piece horror. He’s your guy.
But where previously it seemed like he was being let loose here it feels like he’s on a leash. He attached to this story and he rarely, if at all, takes any liberties. It’s a style guide.
It is 100% “What if eggars did Dracula” and with that came absolutely zero surprises.
