I don’t really have much to add here. I will say I thought it was gonna be more bafflingly awful based on what I’d heard, but I just thought it was incredibly boring. The dialogue is rough, the story is hardly that, and we have talented actors and actresses doing absolutely nothing.

As someone who quite literally grew up with this show (born the year it premiered), I completely acknowledge that this franchise has lost its way and should have ended long ago as the creator wished. But this actually surprised me. 

Plankton: The Movie is clearly still a flawed film, but it’s the first project from this universe that has actually somewhat captured the humor of the earlier seasons of the show. I genuinely found myself laughing several times. I think they could have found a better Plankton-centric story to use, but I thought this breathed a bit of life back into SpongeBob SquarePants. It’s definitely a massive step up from the Sandy movie from last year.

There were a couple of cool sequences, the “in the walls” scene in particular. Other than that I was pretty bored and found it a little too dark for what we were given. Definitely not my type of Statham movie. Also they completely wasted Donald Sutherland.

This has been in my watchlist forever; I’m a big fan of Rian Johnson and Mark Ruffalo, Brody and Weiz are incredibly talented as well, and the synopsis sounded really interesting. With all that being said, I was a little underwhelmed.. 

I definitely had a good time with it, but the vibe didn’t quite match what I was expecting and it didn’t leave that much of an impact on me  It’s well-made, there are some really good moments, and our actors are trying. Maybe I was expecting too much, but it was still a solid watch.

Okay I finally caught up! My rating for this one is subject to change depending on how we wrap up this story. I’ve gotta be honest I wasn’t the biggest fan of some of the Entity “stuff”?; it seemed a little out there at points. But I loved everything else that was going on. 

The action is just as good as in Fallout, the character moments are genuine, and the ending was absolutely insane. Super excited for part two.

No clue why I had watched this one before and I only ed bits, but it absolutely rocked. Easily the best of the franchise so far. Everything great about the previous installments is in full force here. 

The opening credits are SO back after I was less than impressed last time. It’s a minor thing, but that and the theme drop are the two things that get me hype while watching these films. 

The action/cinematography is at its absolute best here. The iconic bathroom scene is even better than I . I thought Cavill was a phenomenal addition to this franchise, both narratively as well as when it comes to the action. Kirby was also another welcome addition. This might be the best (and sexiest) cast in a M:I film yet.

The opening credits weren’t as cool this time, but I’m willing to let it slide because this franchise clearly has found the sweet spot between action thriller and spy film at this point. 

Rebecca Ferguson’s character is a welcome edition; she operates in the morally grey area and it plays well off of Crusie’s “mission above all” persona. 

I think this one has the best cinematography so far, with the underwater scene being a standout. The action is as good as ever, but I was a little underwhelmed with the ending.

I probably should have rewatched the others before getting back into this, but I was more than eager to catch up on this franchise. 

I love a movie that cares about opening credit sequences, so we got off to a great start. I was a big fan of the new cast this time around, particularly what they did with Renner’s character. The skyscraper scene was a standout action sequence, and there were several “edge of my seat” moments. 

I think I stilly slightly prefer MI:3, but I need to give it a rewatch.

The Gorge may not be a great movie, but it’s certainly a breath of fresh air. I was expecting a generic creature feature with strong leads, but instead got a compelling romance with a creature feature background and a bit of several other genres as well. 

The script may be lacking, but Taylor-Joy and Teller put this film on their backs. They definitely make the middle portion of the film the strongest, where I found myself grinning ear to ear. Once we hit the third act it’s a lot more of what I expected, but it’s still serviceable. This one is definitely worth checking out.

Max had the release year listed as 2025, so I was tricked into watching this under the guise of it being brand new. It definitely felt like a film made for January or February, but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it at all. It’s pretty predictable, but I was definitely intrigued by the premise. I just wish we would have gotten a little more. Morena Boccarin is probably my favorite part, but Mackie is solid as well. 

I’d say this is probably a skip for most people, but I got a little something out of it.

Eddie Brock sums up this movie best with the above quote. So many dumb decisions, but Tom Hardy and some solid heartfelt moments save this from total disaster. Easily my least favorite of the trilogy.

This wasn’t as nearly as bad as some of the reviews I’ve seen, but the insane budget should merit a better quality film. It’s frustrating because with so many of these expensive Netflix originals, there is a good idea at the center.

After Dune: Part Two, Villeneuve is the current king of sci-fi. I know this one has a strong following, but it’s a shame this never got the critical love that Dune has. 

This film is elegantly crafted across the board: intricate world-building, a great script, strong performances, a sonically haunting score, impeccable production, and a masterclass in directing. It’s a massive shame that this flopped financially. My only complaint is that it’s too long to rewatch more often.

Don’t get me wrong I adore all of these movies, but this is probably the weakest film in my opinion. There’s still plenty of iconic imagery, great character moments, and an interesting story. I just don’t think it works well enough on its own, unlike some other entries, to makeup for the lack of progression of the main plot line to make it a great film.

Shoutout to my sister for the great recommendation as this was right up my alley. I’m a sucker for these films that are kind of mind-bendy, especially when done right. 

The performances are the perfect amount of sincere and weird; I’ve only seen Duplass in Creep, so while this wasn’t the same type of role, he gives off a similar energy here if that makes sense. The script is tight, leaving things purposefully ominous and not giving us all the answers. 

I will definitely be giving this another watch at some point and see if it holds up on rewatch.

The Gentleman features a stacked a cast with great chemistry, plenty of Ritchie-isms, and and an interesting- albeit a bit convoluted script. 

The misdirect in the opening scene was a great hook followed by a really cool opening credits sequence. The scenes with Grant and Hunnam were by far my favorite; their banter was immensely entertaining. I definitely had issues with the script, especially towards the end, but I did enjoy the narrative style. My only other complaint is that there were a couple of off-putting sequences in my opinion

I had the opportunity, so I had to watch this today. This film still holds up incredibly well. Its laugh out loud funny, sincerely emotional, and clever. A few of the jokes haven’t aged that well and the romance has some issues, but other than that this film has no major flaws.

Saturday Night had a tall ask of not only adapting several well-known, real-life actors, but also making a movie about the production of a television show feel like an absolute breeze. 

Our actors do a great job at becoming the people they’re playing and a lot of has to do with some of the cast not being well known, but I have to say even the actors I’m quite familiar with weren’t distracting (except for J.K.). I’ve gotta shout out Cory Michael Smith in particular. I’m quite familiar with Chevy, as most of us are, but I also know Smith most notably from his long time role as The Riddler in Gotham. All this explanation to say he did a great job. 

Saturday Night gets the laughs you’d expect, but it also feels like a time capsule back to 1975. It’s not a perfect film, but I enjoyed it more than I expected.

I watched for Kathryn Newton and Vince Vaughn, and they both delivered exactly what I was expecting out of this. I was shocked by how violent some of the kills were, especially right off the rip. This is definitely a B-movie level script, but we have great leads.

Ultimate Edition: This is definitely better than the theatrical release, but I don’t know how much better. My main issues mostly still remain.

Contrary to my recent thoughts on Man of Steel where I had come around on Snyder’s portrayal of Superman, I still have major issues with his handling of Batman in this film. I think it works to an extent, but still misses the mark in my book. I don’t have as much of a problem with the “Martha” of it all as I do with how we get to that point in the first place. 

I’m not the biggest Superman fan historically, but I actually prefer the Superman arc in this film, and I think that’s in large part due to the contrast to this iteration of Batman and the continued character arc from the previous film.

This isn’t my favorite Harry Potter film, but it creates a unique feeling that the other ones aren’t able to capture just by nature due to this being our introduction to this world. With that in mind, this movie executes its job to near perfection. The thing that stood out the most to be this time around was the impeccable set design.

I found this to be another timely rewatch with the nazis coming out of the woodwork and all. It’s also just a personal favorite sub genre of action of mine to see nazis getting their asses kicked, but it’s even better when it’s fun. And that’s exactly what this film is. I still enjoyed it just as much as the first time around, and it might become a staple for me. It’s far from the most emotional adaptation of WWII, but it’s one of the most fun without a doubt.

I probably haven’t revisited this in going on 10 years, partially because I was never that into Superman and partially because I agreed with the group of people that said Snyder fundamentally didn’t understand the character. Having matured quite a bit, but also having soured on Zack Snyder— I actually enjoyed this more than I ed. 

I can see the great film hidden in here, but there are just a few missteps along the way that hold this one back.

This is your standard generic Netflix action/comedy, but thanks to our leads, some interesting action sequences, and some solid comedic moments, this is a pretty serviceable flick. I definitely didn’t think it was pure garbage, and it delivered pretty much what I expected.

It seemed like a very relevant time to give this a rewatch. I ed it being great, but I think I was underestimating how great. David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin deserve every bit of praise they have gotten from this film over the last decade plus. The cast is incredible, but clearly the standouts are Eisenberg and Garfield. Even if you take everything we know about real life out of the equation, this is a great story of friendship and betrayal at its core. It’s remarkably well done, and most importantly… Mark Zuckerberg is a humongous asshole.

I definitely dug the vibes, and Phoenix gives a great— albeit laid back— performance. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but it didn’t take long for me to be thoroughly invested. Nearly all my complaints are with the third act, largely the ending. While not entirely bad, it just failed to land with me and left me disappointed after a really interesting first 2/3.

   Differs from the books in several ways, but still executes the main plot line and the atmosphere well. 

   Cedric’s death is one of the most tragic out of all of the deaths in the franchise.

5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

   It’s very slow-paced when it comes to the plot, though there is a good deal of action. 

   -battle of the seven potters is epic... and tragic bc of the heavy casualties. 
   -great character moments
   -the DEATHLY HALLOWS discovery along with the Tale of the Three Brothers really keep you invested in the mystery.

6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

   I still really enjoy this movie, but some of the relationship stuff can get annoying. I do love the main plotline though. This one is my favorite book, so i guess i wanted more of the flashbacks. It also has the funniest scene in the series (Felix felcisis)

The films that I either wasn’t very interested in, looked bad, or they were just incredibly low on my radar. 

Ranked by surprise level and not overall rating

1. Gran Turismo

   As I stated in my review, I thought the trailer looked bland and I had no interest in seeing it. It ended up blowing my expectations out of the water and being a really good film. 

2. They Cloned Tyrone

   This wasn’t on my radar at all, and it ended up being one of my favorites of the year. 

3. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes

   I was highly skeptical of this film for obvious reasons, but they pulled it off with tremendous success. 

4. Wonka

   Similar feelings to The Hunger Games prequel, but they really won me over with charm and visuals. 

5. Silent Night

   Had no clue about this movie, it had no dialogue, and I had a blast with it. Need I say more?

6. Anyone But You

   Really thought this had the potential to be awful, but was actually really funny 

7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

   Lower on the list bc it looked awesome, but it exceeded expectations. If only Across the Spiderverse didn’t come out this year. 

8. Nimona

   Way off my radar and late to the party, but the animation and story captured my heart. 

9. The Marvels

   Way better than I or anyone else thought it would be. The trailers did it no favors. It’s not great, but it deserves some recognition in my eyes. 

10. Renfield

    This looked dumb as hell, but I knew Cage would be fun. Turned out to be my type of fun exactly.
