The fact that courtesans were the only women in this era to be taught to read and allowed in libraries...

"When you look for the bad in mankind, expecting to find it, you surely will". - Abraham Lincoln

This film will always be special for me. I loved it when I was little. A young girl teaching a town hoe

The story of a young orphan who challenges and transforms a town with her ability to find the gladness in all circumstance & the look past the bad to see the gold.

And I truly believe it takes a special person to choose to seek the gold in others amidst their bullshit -as Lincoln said- the bad will always be there if we focus on it.

Except the gold.

No one did cartoons better than the 90s... because they made all the animals & characters sarcastic as hell. It's truly the best.

Rogers: What else is there? She says, "Is beauty all that matters?" And you say, "What else is there?"
Prince Derek: It was dumb. I know.
Rogers: You should write a book. "How to Offend Women in Five Syllables or Less".

It’s just a beautiful film.

[Travers gives Ralph a list of people to his handicapped daughter, Jane]
Ralph: "Albert Einstein, Van Gogh, Roosevelt, Frida Kahlo" - What is this?
P.L. Travers: They all had difficulties. Jane can do anything that anyone else can do, do you understand?
[beat]
P.L. Travers: Look on the back.
Ralph: [turns it over] "Walt Disney."
P.L. Travers: Deficiencies in concentration and hyperactive behavior. Explains everything!

How Mr. Disney and a film writing process sort of helped a writer heal from her childhood.

CHARACTERS 🎭
The clash of Miss P.L. Travers the British understated and proper with Mr Disneys American dream larger then life vibe was such an entertaining relationship to explore.

🥂
I am always drawn to stories with friendships and partnerships between people that really clash and are so opposite in personality and upbringing.

And yet! P.L. Travers and Mr Disney had so much in common, both liking control and creating little worlds to help them escape from tough childhoods. Mr Disney used the past as fuel to bring joy to others, but Travers past clutched her around the throat. This story for them was almost a redemption attempt for their Fathers. The artist will always have their blood and makeup in their art.

🎥
The cab driver Ralph. One of my fav characters in the film. Not a big part but massive impact, he left a mark for sure.

Great comedy between the difficulty that was P.L. Travers and the rest of the team in the writing room. But great drama.

BEAUTIFUL costume and lighting. I will always love a 60s aesthetic.

George Banks and all he stands for will be saved. Maybe not in life, but in imagination. Because that's what we storytellers do. We restore order with imagination. We instill hope again and again and again.

If the film isn’t set in the past... I’m generally not interested.

  • Marie Antoinette
  • Emily
  • Blonde
  • The Edge of Love

Cillian Murphy was brilliant. Gorgeous. Heartbreaking. Though the difficult dynamics between the group was painful to watch.

  • Shakespeare in Love

William Shakespeare: You, sir, are a gentleman.

Ned Alleyn: And you, sir, are a Warwickshire shithouse

It’s the side characters for me that made me love this film. They fit in all the funny stereotypes of artsy people in the film & theatre industry.

Hugh Fennyman: Uh, one moment, sir.

    Ned Alleyn: Who are you?

Hugh Fennyman: I'm, uh... I'm the money.

Ned Alleyn: Then you may remain so long as you remain silent.

The guy who plays the funder / producer and puts his name in massive letters on the poster. HA.

Lord Wessex: How is this to end?

Queen Elizabeth: As stories must when love's denied: with tears and a journey.

Shakespeare as like a brooding creative nearly put to death by the process of writing is hilarious and so true.

  • Amazing Grace

So beautiful. The SOUNDTRACK. I listen to it daily.

The struggle this man went through to abolish the slave trade wow. The ending speech gives me goosebumps.

People can change the world 💗

  • A Knight's Tale

    “He’s dead.”

    What.

“… it means the spark of his life has been smothered in shight.”

The portrayal of Geoffrey Chaucer in this film, OH MY I LOVED IT. My Father and I quote some of the lines from this film at least once a week.

“Chaucers the name. Writings the game.”

    “Protector of Italian Virginity.”

The side characters relationship and banter really made this film. Brilliant. I will always love a little rag tag group of misfits.

Look this might be scandalous but the leading lady did not do it for me. Too modern for my taste.

  • Ever After

The Sountrack is très bien 🤌

Danielle: “A bird may love a fish, signore, but where will they live?”
Leonardo da Vinci: “Then I shall have to make you wings.”

My favourite character is definitely Leonardo da Vinci. His portrayal of being a kind of whimsical airy fairy witty and blunt. If he were like this I would have loved to have met him.

Queen Marie: “Choose wisely, Henry. Divorce is only something they do in England.”

All the characters are so fun. And satisfying when the protagonist slaps across the face her, shadow guardian antagonist force bitchy step sister.

Leonardo da Vinci: [to Henry] “I shall leave walking on water to the Son of God. Fortunately I tripped over an angel.”

  • The Count of Monte Cristo

    The jail scenes. EEEE.

  • Pride & Prejudice

It’s like drinking a cup of warm tea.

Cinematography… STUNNING. LIGHTING STUNNING. Soft Romantic glowy.

Sexual tension 100% … the hand touch.

“Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.”

  • How to Steal a Million

I mean. A quest to steal your own Fathers piece of artwork from a gallery. It’s gold.

The way she speaks of the thief in their house to her Father like a lovesick fool and he’s just standing there spellbound.

    My favourite Audrey film.

  • Charade

    My favourite thriller. BANG.

  • Gone with the Wind

Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.

Scarlet is so annoying and manipulative it’s impressive. She doesn’t know a good thing when she’s got it. She’s a badass.

  • Breakfast at Tiffany's

    “I love you”

    “Thanks.”

This film was one of my first great loves. It was the class of Audrey Hepburn. The weird love story. The COSTUMES. EEEE. But in all seriousness maybe she wasn’t funny in this role like the character should have been.

  • Singin' in the Rain

An instant feel better pill. Music like sunshine.

  • Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

HA. It was stupid. But fun. Glamorous.

  • The Sound of Music
  • Mary Poppins
