tag yourself i'm the lemur obsessed w its belongings.
more harrowing and mildly claustrophobic (in that Life of Pi sort of way) than i expected! nature is as breath-taking as it is terrifying here—much thanks to its incredible animation—and i think it's the aspect of the movie that affected me most, emotionally. the same sadly could not be said abt its animal characters. there's something about the moment Cat voluntarily jumped back into the water, finding joy and benefits from it after being caught in such violent currents twice before, and the others also have a few endearing, charming moments, but it ultimately feels rather forgettable. Secretary Bird is an enigmatic figure though. i often get the feeling like they're a stand-in for humans, which adds certain layers of interpretation to That Scene that i think are very compelling.
the world-building is intriguing. alternate history is among the most obvious answers but i think there's a lot here to dig into and that's pretty neat.
overall an enjoyable time at the cinema, especially bc it's my official 1000th movie! 🎉🎉
