Dune

1984

★★ Watched

I'm all for ginger villains and weird innovative set designs, but the pacing issues and uneven quality throughout the film really hampered this.

Can't imagine those who saw this in 1984. I would've been clueless as well without having seen Villeneuve's great adaptation... Still had fun though !

Patrick Stewart shouting "YOU YOUNG PUP" will stay ingrained in my mind forever. I will be quoting it a lot beware.

5 Centimeters per Second

GORGEOUS animation. Even though the characters were a bit bland, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Makoto Shinkai is truly an expert at creating settings that feel so lived in.

Really getting into these slice-of-life anime recently!

Claustrophobic and astonishing, it wrecked me. When your loved ones are not equipped to help you, what is left is sorrow and contempt.

The Souvenir

2019

★★★★½ Watched

Filled with ellipses, The Souvenir is all about the moments we see and those we don’t. All about what is said and what is left in silence. The Souvenir acts as a time capsule to uncover this deep-seated emotional repression and uses filmmaking as therapy for our director, as a guise of self-reflection and healing process. Julie, or more-so Joana Hogg, re, reimagines, forgets and transcends her sad traumatic experience through a fascinatingly moving remembrance and piece of art. Great film.
