“لا، لست مضطرًا لإنجاب طفلٍ أو زرع شجرةٍ ولكن كم هو جميلٌ أن أعود إلى البيت بعد يومٍ شاق لأُطعم القطة، كفيليب مارلو، أن أحمل حرارة الحمى! وأن تتسخ أصابعي بالسواد من الجريدة، أن أتحمّس، لا فقط للفكرة، بل أخيرًا لوجبةٍ طيبة، لخطّ العنق، لملمس الأذن.
أن أكذب! كذبًا صريحًا.
وأن أشعر، أثناء المشي، بعظامي وهي تتحرك معي،
أن أُخمّن أخيرًا، بدلًا من المعرفةِ الدائمة.”

أن تشعرَ بالروحِ وهي تذوبُ على عظامكَ لشاعريةِ فيلمٍ واحد لهوَ إحساسٌ سحريٌ وحدها السينما قادرةٌ على إهدائي فرصةَ تجربته بهذا البهاء! واؤمنُ بأن فيلم أجنحة الرغبة هو الأب الروحي للأفلام الشاعرية الأوروبية بالنسبة لي على الأقل! شعرتُ بأنني أقرأ بعينيَّ هذه المرة، اقرأ الوجوهَ والأصواتَ والمشاهدَ المُفعمة بالرماد. 

عصفت بي الكثير من الأفكار، وأحسستُ بأصواتٍ دفنتُها عميقاً في مقابرِ العقل تستيقظُ بعد كل حوار، وحتى الشخصيات، رغمَ عبورهم البسيط في أحداث هذا الفيلم، أحسستُ بهم جميعاً يضيفونَ لوناً جديداً على لوحةِ الروح، بأفكارهم وكلماتهم وفلسفتهم وحتى وجوههم الفائضة بالكثير، وعلى الأخص شخصية العجوزُ الجندي، وأظنني تعلقتُ به كثيراً لفضولي الخالد بالجُندِ والحرب، وأوجعني منظرهُ وهو يتصفحُ ذاكرتهُ كما يتصفحُ كتابَ الصور، وحيداً يُصاحبُ ظلهُ فحسب، ويعيشُ آلامهُ التي بلغت الثلاثين عاماً على الأقل وكأنها حدثت ليلةَ أمس! 

"حدثيني، أيتها الملهمة، عن ذاك المُغنّي الخالد المسكين، الذي حين تخلّى عنه جمهوره الفاني، فقد صوته! ذاك الذي كان يومًا ملاك الحكاية وسفير الرواية، أضحى عازف أورغ مهملًا، يتجاهله المارّون، أو يسخرون منه، واقفًا على عتبة أرضٍ لا يملكها أحد، ولا تنتمي لأحد"

ولكنَ الفكرة الأعظم، والتي أبت تركي طوالَ الفيلم هي المأساةِ الأعظم، الرغبة في أن أعرفَ كُل شيء، أن أكونَ الكثيرَ وأشعرَ بالكثير في آن، أن أتجولَ بين الطرقاتِ وألمسَ الجُدرانَ فيُنجبَ العقل أفكاراً لا مُتسعَ لها فيَّ، وأظن بأن سببَ هيمنة هذه الفكرة عليَّ يعودُ إلى الشخصيتين الرئيسيتين: دامييل وكاسييل، فقد كان من العجيبِ أن أراهما يتجولانِ بتلك بقدرةٍ المُبهرة…القُدرة على سماعِ أحاديث الناسِ مع أنفسهم!

“everyone we knew when we were kids is dead”

a friendship is a shape of denial wrapped in the illusion of nostalgia, and that’s it.

I think this whole night walk was more about mikey trying to, unconsciously, find one chance, one ray of light that’ll be enough sign that their friendship can survive, that it can change, but that doesn’t happen.
A friendship would never survive if both sides are mentally ill, insecure and extremely violent towards others and their own selves! It will never be called a friendship if both sides don’t truly understand each other, and see each other for who they are.

mikey keeps searching for a reason to stay, for something to justify his betrayal as not a betrayal, but a forced inevitability, he masks his cowardice with concern, pretends that taking nickey out on this long, winding night is an act of loyalty -which was so beautiful to watch- but the truth slipped through the long silences, the strange ways he’d keep turning around, the bursts of anger.

nickey on the other hand is so lost in his paranoia and self destruction that even if mikey had tried to save him, really save him, he wouldn’t have known how to accept it! I was actually amazed by how patient mikey was with him cuz my anger issues could never!!

what brings them together is rooted in meaningless childhood memories and shared pain, not trust…never trust! It’s mutual damage, mistaken for loyalty…but how painful it was… seeing a friendship break and melt with blood.

well i think if you give me a 1965 white mustang with red interior, half a million dollars, a smith and wesson model 642 airweight gun and a lovely best friend I’ll definitely be healed.

The industry can try, spend decades trying, but they will never create a visual masterpiece that comes close to Dune! no language could ever describe the cinematic wonder I just witnessed. I will forever be disappointed in myself for missing dune II in theatres.

this film is Denis Villeneuve’s undeniable proof that he is the greatest director of all time. He is, and will always remain, the true master of cinema to me.

that said, as a muslim, I can’t ignore how disturbed I feel by the use of Islamic themes and religious elements in crafting dune’s world, and since I’m not fully educated about the depth and background of the story yet, i’ll read more, both about the book and people’s reviews before writing a more accurate and complete review of my thoughts.

FINALLY, it’s worth mentioning, austin butler was absolutely brilliant!!! he always is, and always will be, this movie was his proof that if giving the right director, character and space to display your talent and creativity, you can go beyond expectations.

what i really loved about the 400 blows was the friendship between antoine & rené, a friendship that doesn’t need significant dialogues or events to be meaningful, just a shared cigarette, a skipped class and running away from life through old parisian streets and to movies theatre! they weren’t trying to be heroes really, all they wanted was to survive. In a film full of loneliness, their friendship was a soft rebellion, and for a moment, it made the world feel kind.

It’s really the parent’s fault at the end.

كُل ما تمَ تصويرهُ في هذا الفيلم، من بشرٍ أو شجر…لم يعد هُنا.
وكأنني عالقة في ذاكرة فلسطينيّ مُكبل اليدين، أطوف معه حول أعمدة الذكريات، نحاول لمسها، التأكدَ من صلابتها، وإن كانت تفي بالغرض لتسنُد ذاكرة هذا الفلسطينيّ طوال حياته! ثم نحاول تعبئة الثغرات بمشاهد رُسمت بظلالِ الحنين… ومع ذلك فإن الذاكرة تخون، وتضيعُ الكثير من ذكريات بلده، وكل ما يبقى هو صوتُ موج بحر غزة الذي كان يكفى ليحتضنَ الشعبَ كلهُ في ضمةٍ زرقاءَ واحدة. 

everything that was captured in this film, people or trees, is no longer here. It’s as if I’m trapped in the memory of a handcuffed Palestinian, wandering with him around the pillars of remembrance, trying to touch them, to make sure they’re solid, to see if they’re strong enough to carry the weight of his memory for a lifetime.Then we try to fill in the gaps with scenes painted in the shadows of longing…
And yet, memory betrays, losing so much of his country’s memories.
All that remains is the sound of Gaza’s sea waves,
that was strong enough to embrace the entire nation in one single blue hug.
