Steve McQueen is the fucking man. I’ve always loved movies, but it wasn’t until 2013/2014 where I really started to appreciate more serious works. I watched a lot. Some I probably shouldn’t have while on the cusp of adolescence *cough Nymphomanic cough* but even if I couldn’t quite grasp everything in those more mature movies, I still appreciated them. I was 13 when I saw 12 Years A Slave, the year it came out in cinemas. I loved it. Obviously. But watching it again with (semi) adult eyes adds a whole new appreciation of this film, and many others I’ve been going back and rewatching as of late. It’s been an interesting experiment and I’m really enjoying doing so. This film in particular is a harrowing experience to watch, there’s no denying that, but it’s such an incredibly powerful and provocative piece of cinema that I continue to appreciate.

Widows is going to rock our world, you guys. I’m attending TIFF for the first time this September and it’s still too far away.
