The Report is a film designed to make you angry. It’s designed to evoke disappointment and frustration towards a government blinded by its own self interests. So in a lot of ways, it works. It’s a dark, confrontational piece on the infamous CIA torture report formed in the aftermath of 9/11, and the film’s “characters” serve as a vessel for relaying this information to a wider, perhaps unaware audience. Adam Driver is great. The story is fascinating. The real Daniel Jones came out afterwards and we all gave him a standing ovation. This isn’t necessarily a groundbreaking film, nor one that’s easy that’s easy to connect and relate to (boy, it’s a brutal watch!), but it’s a necessary slap in the face and a captivating one at that.
