So sick of the whole techbro character archetype. Can't turn on your phone without being inundated by the latest on Musk, Zuckerberg and all these other insufferable guys so I really cba with a play about them that has nothing to say
(does have a few funny scenes tho and Jesse gave us peep show, thick of it and succession so he's still a 👑)
Tests of Patience
Just feels so desperate. Lanthimos is sometimes good at striking the right tone but with this it's like every five minutes somebody is grabbing your shoulders and shaking you, desperate for a reaction. He's throwing all his usual tactics into it but nothing's sticking.
I that Happy End was Haneke mostly re-hashing ideas he had explored better in previous films into a Greatest Hits compilation, and I felt similarly here. This film is ittedly creative but once you get desensitised it loses any power

Just read that this cut is entirely comprised of footage not in the original film, so it's basically a new film, or something like Rivette's Divertimento that basically runs parallel to the original cut. I loved it - camp and kitsch as hell and Malcolm McDowell just knocks it out of the park.
The sets are glorious, photography is beautiful and the performances are delightfully camp. Such a shame that the producer messed with the original cut so much because…
