Despite this fim being incredibly bleak, it's surprisingly peaceful. The contrast between the harsh story and soft, steady pacing delivered a great sense of sorrow that built up over the course of the runtime and delivered on a very satisfying release at the end.

This film is a lesson in the elevator pitch. I arrived really primed for a Legendary-Hippopotamus-Escapes-Mexican-Drug-Lord's-Zoo kinda vibe and unfortunately was met with incredibly draining extended arthouse POV "Hippo's-first-slam-poetry-reading" voice over on nothing but white screen, about 30 seconds of Pablo Escobar content and what felt like maybe 7 minutes of actual hippopotamus footage.
