Just an incredibly good time. It blends various genres in a way that surprisingly works well together. It's chaotic, entertaining, and truly unique. The originality is what sets it apart. You're not watching it for perfection; you're watching it because it's a lot of fun, and it definitely delivers on that front.

That's not to say it isn't great, because it is. From dual performances that genuinely impress and keep things dynamic, to some truly great practical effects that ground the more absurd elements in a kind of tactile reality, it all just works. It also absolutely nails the feeling of the time it's portraying. The setting, the attitudes, the look of it all. It feels lived-in and authentic without ever getting too bogged down in being “historical.” Then there’s the part about the music, which frankly makes the whole thing so much better. The blues gives it this infectious energy that’s both soulful and raw, something very rare in films like this. It perfectly fits the mood, elevating scenes, underlining emotion, and sometimes just letting the rhythm carry one through the chaos.

It’s also able to do commentary — whether social, cultural, or otherwise — without making it feel like a lecture. It’s present, but never in your face, and that balance is hard to pull off. Sure, there are a few nitpicks I have here and there, maybe a scene that goes on a bit too long, or a tonal shift that doesn’t quite land, but none of it takes away from how much of an amazing experience this film is. It’s wild, confident, and clearly made with love for the concept.

This could’ve been an absolute banger — but instead, it’s just… fine. It doesn’t do anything outright terrible, but it plays things way too safe for such a wild concept. A unicorn in a horror movie? That idea alone is gold. But the film never fully leans into how weird or bold it could be, leaving so much potential on the table. It’s watchable, sure, but you can’t help but imagine the much crazier, more memorable version it could have been. The CGI was also quite distracting, especially in the back half.

I didn’t quite get Boyhood the first time I saw it. It felt distant, maybe even a little aimless. But on this rewatch, something clicked. Every chapter of Mason’s life felt more relatable, more grounded, like I’d caught up to it. In a lot of ways, I saw myself in him this time around, not just in how he looks but in the way he moves through the world. And that’s coming from someone who originally found him kind of dislikable.

I think I’ve made some kind of peace with life since then, and the film reflects that in a way I wasn’t ready for before. It’s still incredibly specific, which might make it hard to fully connect to for everyone, but that specificity is also what makes it stick out.

A film where nothing really happens, and that’s exactly what makes it special. It’s just teenagers being teenagers, floating through one long night, and somehow that turns into something deeply nostalgic. I didn’t necessarily like any of the characters, but the music, the setting, the entire vibe — it all feels instantly recognizable, like a memory from a time I never actually lived through. And that’s the magic of it. The feelings are real, the moments are relatable, and it makes you feel part of something timeless without trying too hard. It's the Linklater magic at its most powerful.

I graduated yesterday. By all s, I should feel excited—ready to embrace the next chapter, proud of the milestone I’ve just ed. But instead, I feel this strange cocktail of despair, numbness, and uncertainty. It’s not that I loved school—if I’m being honest, I didn’t. Not the noise, not the awkward social rituals, not most of the students. But it gave my life shape. It gave me something predictable, something to move through. And now that it’s over, I’m left with nothing to push against, nothing to hold on to. Just this vast, quiet unknown.

In an attempt to make sense of that feeling, I watched The Graduate. On the surface, it’s not exactly a story that mirrors mine—I’m not rich, not entangled in an affair, and not living in late-60s California. But the emotional undercurrent? That, I recognized immediately. The Graduate captured something I hadn’t been able to name: the hollow, drifting sensation of being pushed out into the world before you know how to walk on your own.

And I’ve come to a conclusion. What I’m feeling isn’t strange, or wrong—it’s human. This ache, this confusion, is what happens when the world suddenly stops telling you what comes next. For years, school gave me structure, routine, even a quiet kind of purpose. Now, all of that is gone—and in its place is a silence I don’t yet know how to fill.

But maybe that’s the point. Maybe part of growing up is learning to sit with that silence, to resist the urge to leap into something just for the sake of certainty. The Graduate didn’t offer comfort or answers, but it did offer honesty. It said: yes, this is what it feels like to step off the edge of something familiar. And somehow, knowing I’m not the first to feel this way made the fear a little less suffocating.

This concept simply works. Time loops, memory shifts, chaos theory, it’s the kind of premise that feels tailor-made for something messy and overly ambitious. But this film commits to it with such focus and darkness that it actually sticks to the landing.

It’s soaked in that early 2000s bleakness. Dim lighting, heavy shadows, and the constant sense that something is off. It’s not just dark, it’s disturbing. There's a rawness to the way it handles trauma and consequences that make it hit harder than you'd expect from a movie like this.

This isn’t comfort cinema for me. But despite all that, it works. It really works. The tone, the structure, the escalation. It’s all disturbingly well-executed. That said, as much as I want to give it a perfect score, I just can’t, at least not yet. Maybe I need another rewatch, or some distance. But the fact that I’m this close says a lot.

Palm Springs just makes me happy. It takes the familiar time loop idea and gives it a refreshing twist—funny, sad, romantic, absurd—and somehow pulls it all together without ever feeling like it's trying too hard. It doesn’t go too big, and that’s exactly why it works. It’s not a huge production, and it doesn’t need to be. That smaller, slightly indie feel gives it this intimacy that makes everything hit a little deeper.

I’ve never really been a big fan of Andy Samberg, but I really like him here. There’s a weariness to his character that feels honest, and he plays it with such warmth underneath all the sarcasm. Cristin Milioti is, as always, just a joy to watch. She's funny, vulnerable and sharp all at once. Their chemistry feels lived-in—like two people who actually see each other, which makes the loop concept land in an emotional way rather than just a narrative gimmick.

And maybe best of all: it’s only 90 minutes. No filler. Just this tight, sweet, existential ride that I could rewatch pretty much any time. It’s also one of the best comedies I’ve seen—not just because it’s funny, but because it understands people. It finds hope and connection in the middle of repetition and apathy.

The atmosphere is relentless. You can almost feel the heat, the sweat, the stink of the rotting house. Everything looks decayed and broken, and the longer it goes on, the more trapped you feel. It doesn’t let up, not with the sound, not with the screaming, not with the tension. It’s exhausting.

It’s easy to forget just how well-made it is beneath all that grime. The camera work, the editing, the sound design, it all feels intentional, like it’s designed to make you squirm. And it does. The tone walks a perfect tightrope between chaotic and heartfelt. The mood swings like a pendulum, yet somehow it all lands. I don’t know if this is a "hot take" or not, but I’d argue that this is the best film in the franchise. Perhaps not by a long shot, but definitely by a meaningful margin. The movie is incredibly consistent, at least once you get past the first 15 minutes or so, and everything after that is a blast. It's emotional, it's action-packed, and it's a well-rounded film. I love Hayley Atwell in this, just as much as I appreciate Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, and Pom Klementieff. They all bring an energy to the franchise that wasn't there before. While the villain remains somewhat serviceable, the political elements of the plot are presented in such an interesting way. The action-packed moments are undoubtedly memorable, and the film has a strong storyline with impeccable narrative progression (i.e., pacing). I believe there is a meaningful story in this film, but it gets lost as it shifts into a narrative focused on straight awakening. Furthermore, the romantic elements lack believability and chemistry, and the writing feels underdeveloped.

What makes this disappointing is that the concept of seeing your older self and adjusting your decisions based on the hypothetical outcomes is fantastic. Unfortunately, the rest of the film fails to live up to that idea.

From one side, I can see how this could be an interesting insight into a more realistic portrayal of the suffering of Jesus Christ, but there was nothing here that kept me hooked. I hate to say I was bored by something, but here, boredom is really the only way to describe it.

I'm not religious, and I've never been, so these stories have always been just stories for me. Where most religious tales are reflective and engaging, I'm looking for something unique or interesting, and here, the unique aspect is suffering, and the interesting aspect is bloodshed.

From a production point of view, I think it's also lacking, especially when comparing it to the rest of Gibson's filmography. It feels like a play; the sets don't feel real, the characters feel too neatly picked, and another thing I dislike mentioning is that the language barrier doesn't help.

Overall, I don't think this is a great film, and it certainly doesn't resonate with me. However, I think that certain religious people might find it amusingly close to the source material, and others might find it interesting due to its gruesome portrayal of the story, so it isn't completely without merit.

This is no gathering of pious sisters, but a congregation of carnality, where pride, lust, and wrath walk hand in hand beneath the cross. In the shadowed halls of the convent, desire festers beneath vows meant to bind the flesh, and visions become weapons wielded to claim power and control. The sacred is cloaked in sin, and the line between holiness and heresy grows ever thinner with each whispered prayer and stolen touch.

Pride crowns false prophets, lust consumes innocence, envy commences jealous fires, and gluttony feeds a hunger beyond appetite. Wrath ignites in sudden violence, while sloth stays in whispered deceits. At journey’s close, the boundary between sanctity and sin grows thin, a fragile veil worn by faith and frailty alike.

I honestly don't blame Richard Gere's character in this. Between this and Streets of Fire, Diane Lane is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful actresses that I know. Also, an interesting thought: this was similar but also the complete opposite of Fatal Attraction, which was interesting. Actually surprisingly good, all things considered.

I went into this skeptical, and the beginning didn't convince me, but as it progressed, it just got better and better. I think that the cast here is brilliant, and although they are quite typical, the combination of roles brings something unique to the film without making it feel redundant or unnecessary. However, although I think the concept of having the central characters grow up together and exploring their separate and unique familial relations is interesting, I believe that part could have been executed better. Still, this was thoroughly intriguing, quite memorable, and unique in its typicality.

A really tense experience; I love the way it takes place in one location and pretty much in real time. Sydney Sweeney manages to express the human mentality in that moment of consequential distress. The little nuances also add to the experience, such as the censored parts. If there is one thing I don't like about it, it would be whenever it goes pretty much psychedelic, but mostly this was great.

I'm surprised to say I didn't hate it. In fact, I didn't hate it at all; I actually kind of liked it. Wow, this still holds up on a rewatch. It's so perfectly and unapologetically 80s (through a 50s environment) in a way that I can't help but ire. The concept is fun, the performances are a bit stale but good nonetheless, and the music segments are unforgettable. It's easy to say something has style over substance, but when the style is the substance, you get this result, and it's glorious all the way through.

This could have so easily been just another failed teen film, but it managed to be so much more than that. I'm really happy that more and more films are discussing and exploring the psychology of young people, whether it be through disorders, bad mental health, or something similar. This one manages to do that so well.

Above everything, it is humane; because of the OCD, the main character has to navigate life differently than a typical person would. It all feels so authentic. Sure, the dialogue, upon closer examination, might not be the most authentic, but the atmosphere, emotion, and themes are relatable, whether you have experience in the subject or not, and that's what I love most about it. It's also light on the romantic part, prioritizing the human aspect of it all, and I think that was important for a story like this. On top of that, the editing and directing were brilliant, and Isabela Merced really sold the character.

A really unconventional romcom in one sense—it starts off depressing, they don't meet until more than halfway through the film, there is no kiss scene, and you can't possibly know if their relationship will end up well in the long run. The best version of a film like this. It makes effective and believable use of a real-life story with not a lot of leeway. I like how each part is implemented.

From his confident, careless attitude—enjoying solitude—to the shocked and hopeful state he’s in when first trapped, until he begins to lose his sanity.

Then the way he starts hallucinating, regretting past decisions, and emotionally breaking down. When he becomes desperate to escape, he is determined to do whatever he can and mentally prepared to do what is necessary.

And then, once he escapes, the way he feels relieved, reborn, and grateful, in a state of mind where he begins to value personal relationships more. It’s a story that is niche, that you’re not going to live through, yet it holds humane themes that are relatable and a character progression that is implemented incredibly well.

Even though the film becomes a bit redundant in the third act and requires some suspension of disbelief, it was an overall great watch. It has that classic 90s tone, which is surprising considering it was released in 2005, but I believe that really works in its favor. The performances play a crucial role in making or breaking the film, and in this case, they mostly made it. It's suspenseful without being overly intense, predictable yet not too obvious, and relatable without feeling too realistic. This combination makes it an easy watch and also a film that's friendly for rewatching. I was not disappointed.

Packed with everything you could want from an action movie: explosions, chemistry, tension, Sandra Bullock, and Keanu Reeves in one of his coolest roles. This film puts a fun twist on the tale of Romeo and Juliet. While it almost veers into parody at times, I managed to overlook most of that and focus on the comedic, more family-friendly elements, appreciating it for what it is. This film is brilliant on several levels while still retaining the artistic style of anime that many people appreciate. I usually advocate against this genre, and here it works incredibly well. The concept itself is compelling both thematically and narratively, where the characters swap bodies but do so at different times, allowing them to live a day as the other person as long as they are asleep. This is further complicated by an incident that disrupts their connection.

The animation and visual storytelling are also quite beautiful. There isn’t anything that detracted from my enjoyment, no strange in-world objects that made me dislike it. However, the way the film was written leaves me with mixed feelings. While it mostly works, it includes several exposition dumps in the dialogue, where one character explains concepts or ideas that are meant to be used later. I find this frustrating because it diminishes the film's rewatch value. Still, overall, it's one of the better movies of this style.

This is what I mean by true visual storytelling. The concept and story are executed exceptionally well with this art style. And while the narrative may not be deeply complex or thematically profound, it is often witty and engaging, offering something truly unique. This is essentially a way to explore many of the classics within the horror genre. Since finding a perfect order is difficult, I decided to follow the release date approach, starting with Frankenstein (1931) and ending with In a Violent Nature (2024). The goal is to watch one horror movie each day, sticking to the list to celebrate the season and gain a sense of how horror filmmaking has evolved over time. There are no rewatches in this list, so by the end of the month, I’ll have seen 31 films I’ve never watched before.

I plan to make this an annual tradition. Last year, I did something similar with Spooktober 2023, though the list was less organized and mostly made up of rewatches, which is a big contrast to this year.

  1. Frankenstein
  2. The Haunting
  3. Onibaba
  4. Rosemary's Baby
  5. The Wicker Man
  6. Black Christmas
  7. Carrie
  8. Dawn of the Dead

DreamWorks is an animation studio that I have a love-hate relationship with. On one hand, they have some of my favorite films in their collection, but on the other hand, they have produced some movies that I absolutely despised. It's quite fascinating, really. I'd say Disney is probably the only studio that could be compared to them, with really high highs and low lows.

Pixar is one of the most successful animation studios, and for good reason. They have always had a quality to them and there are very few that I'd say that I dislike. In fact, I'd argue that they have released some of the best and by extention some of my favorite animated films. So, I'm definately thankful for not only what the films gave me during my childhood but also what they continue to give me.

The following is a ranked list of all Disney animated pictures, including those of shorts collections. However, the ones that contain shorts will not receive a rating, as shorts and documentaries are difficult to assess fairly since they are quite different from feature films. That being said, I will have them in my ranking, but I think of those as much more objectively placed than the others.
