Ballerina

2025

★★★★ Liked Watched

While its story and villain are rather thin, Ballerina wisely chooses to stick to its guns (literally) and delivers one hell of an action spectacle that sits right alongside its predecessors.

You don't need me to tell you that Ana de Armas is exceptional, but I will anyway. She's so effortlessly likeable and handles herself beautifully in the action sequences. The film makes a very intentional effort to separate her from John Wick both from a physical and characteristic standpoint,…

Karate Kid: Legends

2025

★★★½ Liked Watched

Despite its extremely disted, fast-paced structure that doesn't allow for emotional moments to breathe, I found myself really enjoying Katate Kid: Legends. Ben Wang is a tremendous and charismatic lead, the fight scenes are fun, and there is a real personality to the film that makes it feel modern yet distinct while still keeping in line with franchise formula. I was a bit disappointed that Jackie Chan didn't feel like Mr. Han but rather just a version of himself, but…

Shoot 'Em Up

2007

★★★½ Liked Watched

Clive Owen as a carrot-eating, one-liner-spewing machine of utter destruction was not something I knew I needed.

Still a blast though, I'll probably raise my rating on rewatch.

The Green Berets

1968

★½ Watched

Not just a blatant piece of egregious propaganda, but a supremely boring piece of egregious propaganda. John Wayne never turns in a bad performance, but his intentions, as honorable as they may have been, resulted in a relentlessly dull, misguided war epic with strangely racist undertones and an almost laughably cheerful depiction of the Vietnam War.

There are a couple of striking battle scenes, and the Technicolor cinematography keeps it somewhat engaging from a visual standpoint, but the rest is…

Words on Bathroom Walls

2020

★★★★ Liked 2

There's a good chance I'm going to be in the minority on this one, but Words on Bathroom Walls hit me surprisingly hard. This was the movie I really needed right now. While it may go for the sentimental tear-jerking moments in the final act, I feel like this one really earned those moments and they were very effective. Everyone here knows I'm a soft boy, and I can it that I did cry. This was a very effective drama…
