I love Orson Welles, and this film was really entertaining.
Cinematography was innovative, a standout - wish they shot films more like this now.
Look… Grant Major is the goat. Production Design was inspired, genius. Wētā FX killed as per usual. Just wish they decided to do Mo-Cap or something for the actors when they go into the minecraft world, cause something just wasn’t right about that reality special effects.
I liked watching this in 3D IMAX just cause I love the experience, but I’m sorry…. The screenplay was awful, I don’t like to put down movies like this, but I felt so sorry…
Yes I agree that Todd should have utilised Gaga more, but she still gave a stellar performance akin to the tone of the film; yes Todd could have made a bolder choice when it comes to the descent into fantasy/reality bending, but the film is clearly supposed to be grounded in reality—apart from the musical numbers which are Arthur’s escapes; yes I wasn’t a fan of the split personality choice, or the lack there of (Arthur/Joker’s consciousness of his actions…
No words could describe the impact of the performance—which had an unrivalled emotional tension and dynamic—coupled with the peripheral factual information—that made you question what was reality and what was in the mind of a dilapidating shell of a man. I cannot wait to see this a couple hundred more times…
