Not wanting to subject my wallet to The Weeknd’s vanity fiasco, I settled on Usher Raymond’s bargain basement effort.

The title is a bit misleading, as the whole club angle is abandoned for a black-dude-with-the-Sicilian-mob thing. Usher Raymond doesn’t give off much of a DJ vibe anyway — it’s a bit like getting Celine Dion to play drums — and he does a fine enough job acting alongside his more seasoned Italian counterparts.

Truly it’s the writing that stands out…

Watched with mom because she hadn’t seen it. She recommended Blue Velvet to me when I was thirteen.

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia

LOVE this movie. Love the title. Love the car, the suit, the sunglasses. Love the hilarious “I just bagged your daughter” mug on Alfredo in the picture. Love the flies and the filth. Love Peckinpah’s gorgeous violence and his sad understanding of masculinity. Love that once Warren Oates gets the head, it becomes a buddy flick.
