What a weird little Scottish gem Peter Riegert
(I know him for 1994’s The Mask) and Burt Lancaster (The Swimmer notably for me) nail this weird dance between greed and human connection.

It's a middle finger to progress, wrapped in dry humor, stunning landscapes and at times cosmic undertones. 

Maybe we're all just chasing the wrong things, and sometimes the real treasure is just existing.

This movie is a comfy, big old blanket with a hot cup of tea and tasty biscuits.

A great adaptation from the book. Little difference, and it’s great how there isn’t a single second of hand holding the audience. 

Such a great love story. That’s right.
A love story. Jessup, though night and day more intelligent than me is a very relatable character and in some ways an allegory of masculinity and it’s romanization of a higher truth —to a fault.

Dance Me Outside

My GF showed me this movie, and it was v cute. However there is one of the meanest subplots in this that made me so mad, and everyone light-heartedly signed off on it, to the point where I’m convinced it was some metaphor for North American colonialism, even though I’m more so on the “they were settlers” side of the the argument. Regardless, I’m glad I blurayed up on this little known Ontarion cult classic and it’s in my collection. Stoked to watch this with the director and cast commentary track on.
