This movie captures the spirit of radio in a nice 2 1/4 hour nutshell.

It is very 60s-level sexist, looking back at it again, and it aged pretty badly... plus it drags a bit too long IMO. But maaaan I have a soft spot for this movie. I don't know, probably the broadcast lover in me. Also Philip Seymour Hoffman casually doing Philip Seymour Hoffman greatness, and arguably the best soundtrack in a 21st century film. I will stand by that.

Dare I say it's rock n' roll? ;) I'll stop.

Saw in theaters.

What? I really liked this movie but I'm genuinely lost. Parts felt like they're incredibly deep, emotional and moving, and then parts of it just feel like scenes from a Disney Channel movie in both good and bad ways. It's incredibly funny in most aspects, and the emotional scenes hit hard.. But like, this feels way too corporate for the direction it tries to point itself in. It's also a little campy and I can't tell if it's meant to be that way or not.

I will mention, through all of this, I could still tell it was a Greta Gerwig film.. and like, woah! I'm genuinely surprised at the level of... social influence? That's not the right way to describe it. Right-wing people are going to get angry at the "wokeness" of this film.. but I'm all here for it!

Side note, I firmly believe Michael Cera's quirky lil guy was written with him in mind because like... it fits

I used to ADORE this film. Like, it was one of my favorites. But, going back on it... there are some weird elements. Like... I hate to say it, but some of the writing just suuuuuuucks. I understand that it's based on the comics, so I can't give it too much of a disadvantage just for that, but like, really? It's so abrupt and dry in places that it almost makes me uncomfortable.

That aside, some parts of this film I still genuinely enjoy. All the fight/action scenes are executed really well, everyone in the cast just fit their roles so perfectly, and all the little references to other parts of the film and pop culture in general still make this film hold a soft spot in my heart.

I watched this because I am a bit too familiar with the events that inspired this film's story, and grew up in the area this was filmed/takes place.

The concept of this story is good, but in practice, it just makes for a generic, flat thriller that just ends up being inconclusive. However, with all of that said, I did enjoy the acting quite a lot, especially the 2 leads. Also, I'm probably a bit biased, considering that every location I'm seeing, I have most likely visited at some point in my life.

Overall, while a generic thriller with dull story elements, it's a nice showcase for a promising cast and crew.

Saw in theaters.

Okay, some moments of this film were good. A fair chunk of the comedy felt a little too try-hard, but overall landed pretty well... and the restaurant piano scene was amazing.

But like... wow. It's a lot! Like too much. It's incredibly raunchy (I'm okay with quite a lot, but man was this movie pushing it) and, not gonna lie, kind of felt predatory. Crosses the line wayyyy too far. Trailer does NOT accurately picture the film AT ALL.

I can not morally give this any higher of a rating. Need I say more?

Been on a bit of a Wes Anderson kick after seeing his latest film, Asteroid City, in theaters.

Going back and watching this film again after not seeing it for a while, I think I can genuinely say it was way better than I . Ralph Fiennes and Tony Revolori make an ultimate casting power duo, and the addition of just such a captivating story makes this film a 5/5 for me.

Saw in theaters, a few days early thanks to Regal Unlimited’s “sneak preview” screening.

A film with incredibly funny, heartwarming, and raunchy (that’s an understatement) moments, it sure makes for a fun hour and a half, however a lot of moments felt incredibly chaotic and all over the place. There were a lot of moments that came out of nowhere that easily could’ve been omitted, or expanded on to give it a reason why it was even in the film.

Overall, a very fun and interesting watch.

Saw in theaters.

I don’t usually like Marvel/superhero movies. Note the “usually” there. The Spider-Verse series has taken me by storm, and I am here for it. This film builds on and exceeds the first film imo with amazing storytelling and animation. It feels like the story almost holds me captive.

Only weird thing I felt was that a few scenes had horrid sound mixing. I’m glad I went to a screening with closed captioning.

“You can’t wake up if you don’t fall asleep."

Saw in theaters 3 times in its first week, and I’ll probably go again. While not my favorite Wes Anderson film (Moonrise Kingdom takes that title), it’s certainly up there. The back and forth with the play and the program was an awesome concept done incredibly well. I got lost a bit with a few scenes - but it came back quick enough to not hinder the storyline. It almost felt there was this hidden meaning of “you don’t know the meaning of life, you just have to keep going.”

Incredible. One of Wes Anderson's best films to date IMO.
