There are a lot of very valid criticisms for this film.
On the merits of this as a stand alone film without the further development of the animated sequels and shows, I think they delivered a very well made film.
Should they have made a live action version that would lead to a lot of adaptation decisions? Probably not. But I think the Box Office speaks for a wonderful job by a pretty solid cast, especially Maia Kealoha.
