I made a mistake adding the 1939 Wuthering Heights to my watchlist challenge since it wasn't the version of the film that was recommended. But that version wasn't on my watchlist, so this one will have to do.

And I wasn't a fan... though, to be fair, I'm not a big fan of the book either. The book has wonderful atmosphere…

At its best when leaning into the Gothic themes of spiritual decay - bitter people wishing death upon each other and that sort of thing - but it’s sadly unconvincing whenever it tries to deliver scenes of genuine ion. And with the script twisting the source material into an Ultimate Love Story shape, that’s a big problem.

Only Geraldine Fitzgerald as Isabella is really throwing herself at the material, and I’m glad she got a well deserved Oscar nod. She’s fun…
