TRIPLE TIMe

2017

★★ Rewatched

Personally not a fan of this one. It doesn't introduce any ideas I haven't seen tackled in other, better time travel media; Kountz's performance is actively poor, and seems to just get worse as the runtime progresses; and a decent amount of it feels like it's wasting runtime, especially the totally unnecessary romance montage in the middle, which is impressive in a 26-minute short. It's not bad as a concept, but the execution falls very flat.

The Spy Next Door

2010

★½ Rewatched

There are like a million movies exactly like this but for some reason I loved this one as a teenager. It's bad though

Collateral

2004

★★★½ Rewatched

For whatever reason, this doesn't totally do it for me. It's visually and aesthetically fantastic, with fantastic performances (particularly from Cruise, who's great as a villain) and a great score. Personally, though, I don't really feel hooked for much of the second act; it opens strongly and the final half-hour is a real banger, but overall the film runs a bit long, drags in a few too many places, and fails to keep 100% of my attention for the entire runtime. I don't think it's strictly an issue with the movie itself, but it holds it back from being great for me.

Ittefaq

★★★½ Rewatched

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Adolescence

2025

★★★★ Watched

This is pretty fantastic, but not all of it totally works for me. For instance, the show draws attention to the Andrew Tate-inspired manosphere, going as far as having Jamie deny really being in the manosphere but then parroting language and ideas that indicate he is, but the online misogyny stuff doesn't feel like it's developed fully or deeply enough. There are several moments where Jamie seems to question himself -- at the very least, after his outbursts, he seems…

Van Helsing

2004

★★½ 2

I this already feeling dated when I watched it as a kid, but I also loved it. It's objectively poor, but hideous CGI and a slightly unwieldy runtime aren't enough to stop me from thinking it's a great bit of fun.

Slender Man

2018

½ Rewatched

There's not a single effective or well-made moment to be found in this movie's entire runtime. The CGI is distractingly awful and it's edited like shit. It's the kind of 15-rated horror movie that only a nine year old would actually find scary.

Happy Death Day 2U

2019

★★★½ Rewatched

It's not quite as good as the first one, unfortunately -- despite the new directions this heads in and the original ground it treads, it still unfortunately feels a bit trite and uninspired in places, and it's not as funny as the first -- but it's still a lot of fun and consistently entertaining. I think I'd only ever bother rewatching the first one again, but this is solid too.

Happy Death Day

2017

★★★★ Rewatched

One of the funnier and more tonally successful comedy horrors I've seen. Once you already know, it becomes apparent it's comically easy to figure out who the murderer is using basic reasoning, but the movie's red herrings and misdirections are successful enough that it's not too obvious on an initial viewing, and it's still loads of fun watching Tree try to figure it out on a rewatch. The comedy and the horror are both successful, and balanced well. Great stuff!

The Whittler

2020

½ Rewatched

I decided to throw this on because I ed genuinely nothing about it and wanted to know why I gave it such a low rating. Turns out it's just utter dogshit. It's written awfully and performed even worse -- this has some of the worst kid actors I've ever seen, which is saying something -- and it's plodding and unfocused. It's illogical and internally inconsistent, and ugly as shit just for good measure.

Off the Rails

2021

★★ Rewatched

This will live forever in my memory as the movie I didn't like very much in cinemas but saw a second time the very next day because I thought my mum would enjoy it, and then she thought it was crap, too. Both stars come from the part of me that really likes quite a lot of Blondie songs.

Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett

2021

★★★ Rewatched

At 20 minutes, this fails to do much more than scratch the surface of the subject matter, but it's still interesting. It's neat learning how the character originated, as well as discovering that Fett's character design is so fucking cool that before he'd ever been in a movie -- before he even showed up in The Star Wars Holiday Special -- he made an appearance at a parade and people were already obsessed with him despite having no idea who…
