Thunderbolts*

2025

★★★ Watched

If emo nihilism was a superpower (wait…what?)

Pugh and Harbour bring the heart, Russell the snark.

One of the best baton es in MCU

Marvel REALLY need to sort out their cinematography though. Even watching this on the biggest IMAX possible, anything that’s not daylight just looks muddy and underlit 🌚

I would like to see the really good actors please.

Even when they're in the dark.

Black Widow

2021

★★★ Rewatched

Predictable plotting, action scene beats and special effects finale aside, this now plays as one of the more enjoyable and 'human' of the latter MCU films, particularly the interplay between the four main leads

Definitely feels like it should have been made much, much earlier with the same cast, who are by far the best thing (am not keen on Winstone's stock KGB heavy, but that could be the character or the actor).

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

2022

★★ Rewatched

On rewatch:
still feels waaay too long and disted
Still don't like Namor's depiction or interpretation, and both Talokan and Namor's enmity are poorly written
The third act cg battle is still boring and awful

But my cardinal gripe:
The underlit cinematography, especially in the nighttime and underwater scenes, feels just as bad in the streaming version as at the cinema

Black Panther

2018

★★★ Rewatched

I seeing this in a cinema packed with a black audience, and that's primarily what made it special. It's still a largely entertaining film, but the cgi really hasn't aged well, starting with those dodgy battle rhinos. I was bored by the cgi final slugfest at the time and still am
