The blue-est movie ever made.

I need to see this on the big screen at some point. The remaster looks great and there's some really visually stunning moments at points. Not a shock now that I think about it, this is a James Cameron film after all.

Just blatantly racist. Bernard Bresslaw is in this (as well as Carry On regular, Joan Sims) and he plays a yellow faced, bald Asian man. The dude just looks like Dr. Evil with jaundice. It's just ridiculous. Nice to know that even after Walt Disney's death, the studio still felt the need to add cringeworthy racist caricatures into their movies. Peter Ustinov is in this too. Guess what? He plays an Asian.

Just fucking hire Asian people ffs.

What the fuck is up with Disney's live-action output? If you guys think their recent obsession with live-action remakes is bad, you guys clearly weren't there for all this shit because this is the perfect example of a studio struggling to follow a hit (Mary Poppins) and struggling to find an audience. There's some good live-action Disney films out there from around this time but it's best to stick to the animated because this bad. That goes for this film too, oh boy!

Oh lord, this was not a good introduction to Elvis Presley’s acting career in the slightest.

Brace yourselves with this one because good god has this one aged poorly.

Very early on three nuns (one of them played by Mary Tyler Moore) go to a hospital but as if they’re just your average, everyday people. Elvis is all like “nah, I don’t think you’d be all able to work in this environment” or whatever. Okay, fine. Cool.

His follow up line, and I shit you not: “two of the nurses were raped, one against her will”.

What the fuck???

And oh boy, does it get better from there. After that horrendous bit of dialogue we get “autism curing”, homophobia and racism. None of this handled appropriately. Oh my fucking god, there’s also a rape scene.

This is the first Elvis movie I’ve seen. Are they all like this? I thought they were all meant to be silly family friendly musical type movies? Based on what I’ve described and how it’s handled, this ain’t one I’ll be putting on for my future kids.

Oh, and the autistic white girl says the n word at some point.

Again, what the fuck was this and why did the filmmakers think that this movie would’ve been a good idea?

Maybe there’s a good Elvis movie out there? This ain’t that movie bro. Not a chance.

Most of Clint Eastwood’s filmography, especially the stuff he made around this time, are considered top tier “dad movies” and I can see why. However, this film’s quality aside, I hope to god this was is not considered as a “dad movie” because this being recommended by your dad would feel sooo weird.

Clint Eastwood at his most heinous and despicable. I was not expecting the tone to be so dark but it definitely worked for what the film was going for. Its dark and uncomfortable tone are clearly intentional and Eastwood pulls it off very well.

Ending your Malcolm X biopic with a Nelson Mandela cameo is one of the biggest power moves known to humanity.

Long, but the runtime is certainly necessary.

How the hell did it take me nealy 23 years of living to watch a Denzel Washington movie? That's insane. This whole film lives and dies on whether or not he can draw you in with his performance because that man is the focus of this 3 hour and 22 minute long movie. If his performance is bad, then this movie would be a disaster.

Over 30 years later and people are still mad that Denzel didn't win the Oscar. I can see why.

I've got more Spike Lee to watch because I've liked all the films I've seen from him so far. As for Denzel Washington, I’ve got a hell of a lot of catching up to do.

Also, there were so many moments in this that I recognised in through this via either memes, osmosis, or even bloody Nostalgia Critic reviews lmao.

Contains some of the most "how did they get that shot??" shots in any movie made in a while, safe to say that in of cinematography, this is probably the most impressive out of any of Wes Anderson's movies. It's probably his funniest film too. It starts with a Mon Oncle homage and it's all good from there.

Also, there's this little piece of piano music that kept getting used at the start of the film that kept annoying the hell out of me because it sounded similar to the opening piano notes of Radiohead's No Surprises so every time it played I just expected there to be a No Surprises needle drop but alas, I was not surprised by an unexpected No Surprises needle drop.

Is this some sort of proof that dogs don’t like it when humans voice for them? Is this a cry for proper dog representation in animated media?

I shall talk to my dog about this later on and ask where he stands on this controversial issue.

Soooo close to being a five star film. Just trim some of the fat and you're good to go!

I am absolutely in love with Seu Jorge's David Bowie covers.

Has its flaws but this is still quite good. Very funny movie and, as usual for a Wes Anderson film, the ensemble are great.

It just looks great too. So much colour and life to it all.

Oh hey, it's the guy from Paddington 2 and Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie 🙂🙂.

Nice Buckaroo Banzai homage at the end.

Nearly All Films Mentioned/Discussed on the JAR Media Posdact 3r4s57 https://letterboxd.conexionsite.com/maciej_hutt/list/nearly-all-films-mentioned-discussed-on-the/ letterboxd-list-26513329 Fri, 18 Aug 2023 00:24:04 +1200 <![CDATA[

Updated 02/06/2025.

I rewatched all episodes of the JARCAST and watched a few that I missed out on. Started going through them again in mid to late August 2022 and finished catching up with the cast on 24/10/2022 and decided to make a Letterboxd list of all the films mentioned on the podcast. I started this list after a few episodes so there may be some movies that I've missed or may be in the wrong order.

The purpose of me going all episodes of the podcast was not for me to make this list but because I simply felt like it. But since I enjoy making lists I thought that this would be a fun idea.

So here's an "incomplete" master list of every film either mentioned, name dropped, referenced, or discussed on the JAR Media Podcast and even some additional JAR videos. A majority of the films are added in order of mention. 99.999% accurate probably.

  1. Clash of the Titans
  2. Wrath of the Titans
  3. Jumper
  4. Terminator Salvation
  5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  6. Small Soldiers
  7. AVP: Alien vs. Predator
  8. Aliens vs Predator: Requiem

My Favourite Films! 354m24 https://letterboxd.conexionsite.com/maciej_hutt/list/my-favourite-films-2/ letterboxd-list-2717954 Wed, 20 Jun 2018 00:59:37 +1200 <![CDATA[

My amazing taste in cinema. If Problem Child can be one of Martin Scorsese's favourite films then Scary Movie 3 can be one of mine.

Punch-Drunk Love and Terminator 2 are basically tied as my favourite movie, everything else is a loose ranking and not necessarily in an exact ranking.

My taste in film is purely based on enjoyment and how much I find something to be rewatchable. Meaning that the films near the top of the list are the ones that I really like or just go back to often. The ones near the bottom are either ones I don't love just as much or films I see as guilty pleasures.

I update this list quite regularly anyways.

  1. Punch-Drunk Love
  2. Terminator 2: Judgment Day
  3. The Blues Brothers
  4. The Great Muppet Caper

Well, almost every Disney movie.

Sorted by oldest to newest. Currently updating as of 10/02/2025.

I've always tried looking for a list that includes every single film from any part of Disney but whenever I do find one they always seem to be incomplete or just include the popular films. So I just made my own list because why not.

Theatrical, straight to TV/Disney Plus/DVD/VHS, distributed by Disney, made by Pixar, live-action, animated. All of it. Not including short films or documentaries. I will continue to add to this list in the future. Any film that has not been released yet is not on the list.

Ever since the pandemic, they have been the main constant in my life, and they are some of the greatest people I have ever known. We have watched and discussed nearly 300(!) movies over the last 5 years and our hip continues to grow. It’s amazing honestly! Watch a movie selected and discussed by of the Online Cinema Club.

Prompt #3: There is a running joke in the Online Cinema Club about Paul Newman being my all-time favorite actor. They love to tease me about Newman but it’s okay, I can handle it! He is simply one of the greatest actors and human beings to ever grace our planet. Watch a movie starring Paul Newman.

Prompt #4: I share one of Paul Newman's most distinctive features: we both have blue eyes! Watch a movie with blue on the poster or in the title. Example lists include Blue Posters, More Blue Posters and Blue Movie Titles.

Prompt #5: We are in the middle of celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place from September 15 to October 15 each year, to honor the achievements and legacies from the Hispanic community. Watch a movie about Hispanic Americans or a movie made by a Hispanic filmmaker.

Prompt #6: Although I obtained my Master's Degree in Film & Media Studies, my career pathway led me to become an academic subject librarian (who specializes in history and the social sciences). The Library of Congress is largely considered the gold standard of librarianship here in the United States and they always have interesting programs and collections going on. One particular thing I follow is their National Film Registry, first established in 1989 (ironically the year I born). They choose 25 films each year deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" to American society and culture. The only stipulation is that the film must be at least 10 years old. Watch a movie selected for preservation by the Library of Congress' National Film Registry.

Prompt #7: Turner Classic Movies (TCM) was, in many ways, my gateway to appreciating movies over two decades ago. I have fond memories watching TCM and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I loved their program The Essentials, which ran from 2001-2020, and it helped me discover so many gems. Watch a movie featured on TCM's program The Essentials.

Prompt #8: Early on in my film fandom, I used IMDb as a resource to expand my knowledge and appreciation of the movies. I used to closely follow their constantly-evolving Top 250 list and tried to see as many movies on there as possible (with no luck). Watch a movie that's been on IMDb’s Top 250 list over the years.

Prompt #9: Even to this day, I still regularly read The New York Times's film section. It's some of the best film criticism out there and I find their writers and contributor's takes to be so interesting. They also have a lot of great lists and this one of them: Watch a movie featuring an actor ranked on the New York Times’ 25 Greatest Actors of the 21st Century list.

Prompt #10: Sometimes these hunts can be overwhelming to create but I thought this would help simplify things a bit: Spin the 'Essential Film Directors' wheel and watch a movie from that director that you haven't seen.

Prompt #11: October 11th is National Coming Out Day and this helps bring awareness to anyone who wants to be out and proud as of the LGBTQ community. Watch an LGBTQ movie from your watchlist.

Prompt #12: Romantic comedies are arguably my biggest guilty pleasure and I unabashedly love them. Yes, I'm a romantic at heart! Watch a romantic comedy from any era.

Prompt #13: I completed my Master's thesis about 9 years ago and my work focused on the construction of masculinity identity through Hollywood comedies from the 1990s and 2000s. Although I chose a different career path, I am proud that I wrote a 120+ page thesis! Watch a comedy that was released in the 1990s or 2000s.

Prompt #14: October 14th is Indigenous Peoples' Day, also known as Columbus Day here in the United States. I used to work at a predominantly indigenous institution and I am happy to see more popular culture representations of indigenous communities in recent years. To celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day, watch a movie from either the Real on the Reel: Important Native American Movies list or the 100 Native Directors, 100 Native Films list.

Prompt #15: Columbia Pictures is one of the most iconic movie studios and they are currently celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. Watch a movie released by Columbia Pictures to celebrate their 100th anniversary.

Prompt #16: My friend Peter is the person who introduced me to these scavenger hunts and he still participates in them to this day. Let's thank Peter by watching something from his Not Sure If Watched List that you haven't already seen.

Prompt #17: My friend Kailyn has a massive watchlist of movies she still wants to see. Shuffle Kailyn's List of Born of Lists and watch something on the first page of results that you have not seen.

Prompt #18: Let's have some fun and make this prompt about you! Go to your Watchlist, hover over the Genre drop box and watch a movie from your favorite genre.

Prompt #19: October 19 is the night of the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and I will be going to that! It's one of my favorite things that I like to go to each and every year. I have written articles and published podcast episodes about the Rock Hall and this is something that I truly love...no matter how much debate it stirs up! Watch a movie starring or a movie (biopic or documentary) about a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee.

Prompt #20: In my spare time, I like to cook and I am always fascinated by media content (television, film, literature, etc.) focusing on the culinary world. Watch a movie about Food, Chefs, or Restaurants.

Prompt #21: Ever since I was a little boy, I have always been a fan of professional wrestling. It is something that I still watch to this day and it's something that consumes far too much of my life. Watch a movie starring a current or former Professional Wrestler. If you are having trouble finding something for this prompt, consider looking at the filmographies of Dave Bautista, Dwayne Johnson, or John Cena.

Prompt #22: ing the disabled community is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. Watch a movie that focuses on disability representation.

Prompt #23: I often use these scavenger hunts as excuses to watch short films and honestly...it's some of the best things I watch in any given month. Watch a short film with a maximum runtime of 30 minutes.

Prompt #24: A24 is currently celebrating their 10th anniversary and they have released many of the best movies from the 2010s and 2020s. Watch an A24 movie.

Prompt #25: This prompt is simple and straightforward: Watch a movie released in 2024.

Prompt #26: I have an AMC A-List hip and I go to the movies all the time. There's nothing like seeing a movie on the big screen! Watch a movie currently playing in theaters or watch a movie I saw in theaters in 2023 or 2024.

Prompt #27: Instead of going to the movies, some people prefer to stay home which is totally fine. There's a lot of content out there on those streaming services but there's sometimes diamonds in the rough when it comes to original programming. Watch a movie that was released exclusively on a streaming channel such as Netflix, Hulu, Prime and Peacock.

Prompt #28: We are in the midst of the fall season and this is my favorite time of the year. Watch a movie you believe embodies the Fall or Autumn season.

Prompt #29: Of all the horror subgenres, psychological horror is my absolute favorite. Watch a Psychological Horror movie.

Prompt #30: If you think about it, there's a lot of similarities between horror and comedy. And there's nothing I love more than a good horror-comedy...it's the best of both worlds! Watch a Horror Comedy.

Prompt #31: Sometimes there are blind spots when it comes to certain genres and horror is certainly one of them for me. Watch something from the Horror Movies Everyone Should Watch at Least Once list that you haven't already seen.

August 2024 5c614j Scavenger Hunt #113 (aka, The Tom Cruise Takeover 😭) (Completed) https://letterboxd.conexionsite.com/maciej_hutt/list/august-2024-scavenger-hunt-113-aka-the-tom/ letterboxd-list-49046852 Fri, 19 Jul 2024 23:18:30 +1200 <![CDATA[

Original list can be found here.

I'm seeing double. Four Tom Cruise films!

1 rewatch, 30 first time watches.

Progress - 31/31

Prompts (taken from the original list):
1.) Did the flag next to my name give this first one away? From the stuff of Ethan Hunt’s nightmares to the first Latin American woman to win an Oscar, we Boricuas are proud to count among our ranks some truly iconic artists. Watch a movie starring a Puerto Rican actor or an actor of Puerto Rican descent. Here are some helpful lists.

2.) I love a good wolf in sheep's clothing. Watch a movie that at a glance might seem wholesome or fluffy but has an edge or flirts with heavy material (think: Addams Family, Pleasantville, Small Soldiers, Ted, Willy Wonka).

3.) Let’s face our fears together! Watch a movie about one of your fears.

4.) I love K-Pop and you can too! ATEEZ is one of my very favorite groups (and one I still can't believe I experienced a top five all-timer concert from). Watch a film that either inspired or is reminiscent of ATEEZ's inter-dimensional rebel pirate concept or watch a film mentioned by one of its insanely talented .

5.) It often surprises me that US adaptations can be mind-blowingly good but the same is often true of their source material. Did you know The Departed is adapted from Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs? Watch an original film from another country that's been adapted into an American one. This list of adapted films is a good reference to find source films.

6.) I’m always hoping I’ll find a film that will endear to me actors I usually can’t stand. Maybe all they need is the right opportunity, right? Give it a shot and watch a film starring an actor you usually can't stand.

007.) My Dad raised me on the James Bond films and 007 has been my absolute favorite since. Brosnan is the double-O standard for me. Watch a film starring any of the actors who have taken up the mantle for her majesty's secret service.

8.) One of the key ingredients of every great Bond movie are the tricked-out beautiful cars he drives (and often destroys). Watch a movie that features a vehicle on the poster or features a vehicle in a pivotal way (e.g. Millennium Falcon is another choice choice).

9.) Bond is also great at revenge. Just desserts are so delicious, amirite? Watch a film centering on revenge.

10.) But enough about good guys. Are you in your villain era? Watch a movie starring an actor known for being reliably good at playing bad.

11.) If there’s something I really appreciate, it’s a movie that can really keep my attention when I want to escape. Watch something from my list (and see if we agree or differ on what we find entertaining!) or watch something that you think will captivate you from start to finish.

12.) Who needs a flawless A-list face beckoning you to watch their latest release? Give me a teasing image any day. Watch a movie with a poster that doesn't have someone's discernible face on it.

13.) Did you know Jessica Lange is of Finnish descent? Learn about you favorite actors and watch a movie from a country that their ancestors hail from.

14.) Who's the craziest person you share a birthday with? Watch a movie starring a person born on your day of birth.

15.) Let’s celebrate the often unsung performers who make movies truly memorable. Watch a movie starring one of your favorite character actors. This and this list have some good suggestions.

16.) I love when an established director puts their weight behind a project they believe in, come what may. Watch a movie produced but not directed by a well known director.

17.) As far as I'm concerned, 1999 was an epic year for cinema. With this year marking the 25th anniversary of many incredible movies, what better time to watch a film released in 1999?

18.) Japan is the most wondrous place to me. I love the culture, the people, the food (great ramen is manna from heaven to me)…suffice it to say, I love everything about Japan. Watch a film made in Japan (dubbed anime films count!).

19.) Something else I love is theme parks and speaking of Japan, I’m so happy that my beloved Jaws ride lives on at Universal Japan (may it last forever!). Watch a movie about or based on a theme park / theme park ride or a film that has/had its own theme park ride.

20.) I know they say you should never meet your heroes but it's really something special when you meet someone you're a fan of and they turn out to be lovely. Watch a film starring someone you have met (if you haven’t met any actors or musicians, you can go with an actor you’ve seen in a play or IRL at a distance).

21.) Few comedians are a sharply funny to me as Kathy Griffin (who also happens to be a really sweet person). Watch a film or comedy special starring Kathy Griffin.

22.) Now for someone I wish I could meet someday. Watch a film referenced in or starring someone mentioned in a Lady Gaga song. Or watch a film starring the reigning queen of pop herself.

23.) Pokémon rules for this next one! - Watch a film with a Pokémon type reflected in the title (i.e. Firebird or Water for Elephants).

24.) Now watch a film with an element reflected in the title that, according to Pokémon rules, would be super effective against the one reflected in the previous film's title (i.e. Ocean's Eleven would work for Firebird here).

25.) I am a firm believer that you should never stop being a kid so for this prompt, watch one of the films in my Films of My Childhood list or revisit something you haven’t watched since your own childhood.

26.) One more nostalgia choice: Let's hear it for the voice actors who made our childhoods! I'm partial to Mark Hamill's Joker and a slew of beloved anime dub actors. Watch a film starring an actor who voiced one of your favorite childhood shows.

27.) Does it drive anyone else crazy when a challenge in a film could be simply overcome if it took place today? Watch a film with a central issue that could be solved by modern technology (no cell phones, no vaccines, etc).

28.) There are two instantly recognizable tunes that come to mind when I think about seemingly ubiquitous soundtrack staples growing up. These songs were/continue to be so popular that some films even feature both of them! Watch a movie with either of these classic songs in its soundtrack: Tone Loc's "Wild Thing" or EMF's "Unbelievable"

29.) One is one of the best TV shows of all time. The other is arguably the best spin-off of all time. Watch a film that has been referenced in either Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul.

30.) Speaking of the best shows of all time, watch a film starring one of the main cast of the masterpiece that is Six Feet Under.

31.) Last but certainly not least, I adore the world that Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi built. One of the most amusing things about the latest chapter is how often it references awesome movies. Watch a film referenced in Cobra Kai.

  1. Gladiator

Today I learnt that Joaquin Phoenix was born in Puerto Rico.

  2. The Watcher in the Woods
  3. Enter the Void

I have a fear of death. Don’t we all 🙂.

  4. The Hunger Games
  5. Infernal Affairs
  6. Cats
  7. The Cannonball Run
  8. Repo Man
  9. Legally Blonde
  10. A Few Good Men

None of that cut to back, white font on black background bullshit. I'm talking about that good stuff.

There's probably some I'm missing but this is a big list, newest to oldest, of films with opening credits, most of them pretty great, because all films are made better when an opening credits sequence is included.

This list is of films that I have actually seen so if there’s a film that’s not on this list then either I’ve forgotten to add it or I just haven’t seen it yet.

  1. Deadpool & Wolverine
  2. Barbie
  3. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning
  4. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
  5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
  6. BlackBerry
  7. No Time to Die

Progress - 31/31

2 rewatches and 29 first time watches.

Holy shit. Holy fuck. Holy fuck. Holy shit. Yooooooooooo. What!!!!!!!

Sorry, this sooo cool. I’m hosting a Scavenger Hunt. No wayyyy!!!! Sorry, this is just really cool.

Oh my lord. Alright, give me a second to breathe.

Okay, we’re good. Anyways, thank you so much to Zoey for hosting the June hunt. Lots of good films watched for that one, hopefully you get another chance to host in future!! If you yourself would like a chance to possibly host the hunt in August then be sure to the Scavenger Hunt Discord Server to enter the raffle for your chance to win the opportunity to host next month’s hunt. Very excited to see who’s hosting and I am also really excited to see what you guys choose to watch for this month’s hunt.

Sooo, the hunt. For those who know what to do, you know what to do. For those who don’t, here’s how it works.

Below are several prompts, each give little descriptions, most of them are pretty simple and easy to understand but if you’re confused about any then please feel free to ask. So yeah, lots of prompts and each of them let you know what kinds of films to choose. I’m pretty happy with the prompts I’ve chosen for this hunt and hopefully everyone ends up choosing a good variety of films to watch.

God, I need to stop yapping. I think you’ve got the point by now.

Anyways, hunt time!!! Hoorayyyyy!!!!

Sorry, I’m too overexcited haha.

So, here are the prompts below.

Have fun. And don’t forget, happy hunting!! 😊😊

1. I loveeeee Stranger Things. One of my favourite shows of all time and I am absolutely hyped for the final season, whenvever that comes out haha. So for the first prompt of this month's hunt, sit back and watch a film starring a Stranger Things cast member.

2. Last month's hunt was hosted by Zoey and that month's hunt gave me a lot of good films to watch. For this prompt, watch a film that Zoey has rated 5 stars.

3. Oh shit, it's my birthday today. Oh my lord!! Wow. Ummm. Yeah. Woah, forgot about that tbh. Turning 22 today. God, I'm old. I'm almost at retirement age lmao. Hopefully the wording of this prompt isn't messy but since I turn 22 this year I want to check out a film that was released 22 years before I was born and so I've chosen 1980's Used Cars. So if you're turning 33 years old, watch a film that came out 33 years before you were born. If you're turning 55 years old then watch a film that came out 55 years before you were born. I think that sounds right. God, no offence to them but I hope there's nobody doing this hunt that's turning 90 because you're a bit fucked for this prompt lmao. Sorry about that tho mate, better luck next time.

4. Brooooo, the Muppets. The fucking Muppets. I mean, come the fuck on!! My guys, honestly. Sooo, let's not watch a Muppet movie but instead a non-Muppet movie that stars a Muppet performer in its cast, either voicing a character or playing a live-action character. Yippeeeee.

5. Watch a film that came out 100 years ago in 1924.

6. Musicals!!!!! I love musicals. They are soooo fun. Watch a musical!! 🥳🥳

7. Everyone loves live-action Disney movies. They’ve got some classics like Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Freaky Friday, Holes, The Parent Trap and many others, but they also have their good fair share of forgotten live-action flicks, most of them made during the 60s, 70s and 80s, which for whatever reason I am absolutely intrigued by. So for this prompt, watch one of Disney’s forgotten live-action movies.

8. I just wanna watch something stupid, watch something from my Cinematic Shitposts and “Fuck You” Movies list.

9. I also wanna watch some goofy shit too, watch a film from my Live-Action Cartoon Movies list.

10. Brittany Murphy. Love Brittany Murphy. Watched Uptown Girls last year and loved it and I wanna see more of Brittany Murphy’s filmography. Huge fan. Watch a film starring Brittany Murphy.

11. Now that I’ve suggested a Brittany Murphy movie then why not let Brittany Murphy recommend a movie to you. Watch one of Brittany Murphy’s Blockbuster movie recommendations.

12. Friendly reminder, musicals fucking slap 😎😎. I love ‘em. So for this one, watch a non-musical film that you think would make a great musical adaptation. Go all out for this one, if you think it has musical potential then go for it!!

13. Watched Tommy all the way back for the first time in 2022 and it’s become one of my favourite movies and I absolutely adore the production design in it and ever since I’ve been doing my best to go through director Ken Russell’s filmography. For this prompt, watch a film directed by Ken Russell.

14. Another musical based prompt lmao. Sorry not sorry. Watch a film from the Tone Deaf: The Musical list because I absolutely love those odd little 70s/80s musicals.

15. As you can probably tell, I love a good looking film. Practical sets and great usage of colours? That's some good stuff right there! So for this prompt watch a film from the Visually Insane list.

16. I just feel like watching a trilogy of films that I've not yet seen. Watch a trilogy of films that you've not yet seen. Or, if you're a bit too busy this month, try and at least start a new trilogy to watch 👍👍.

17. I watched the Canon documentary, Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films, last year and absolutely loved it. The films from Cannon look absolutely nuts and ever since I've been wanting to see more from this amazing studio. Watch a Cannon movie.

18. Mads Mikkelsen. Need I say more. Honestly, what a guy!! Watch a Mads Mikkelsen movie.

19. Watch a film from your watchlist that has been on there for ages, preferably one of the first 100 movies on your watchlist.

20. Been listening to a lot more albums as of late. I've recently finished listening to the entire Beatles discography. They got some good tunes imo. Some bangers if I do say so myself. Well done Beatle. Watch a film that has Beatles music on its soundtrack or uses the music of The Beatles as an important part of the movie.

21. Punch-Drunk Love and Boogie Nights are two of my favourite films of all time. PDL is currently in my top four, I absolutely adore that film. Both of these films are great and were directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who's made some other movies I like. Watch a film from PTA that you've not yet seen. However, if you have seen all of his directorial work then watch a film starring a main cast member from PTA's Punch-Drunk Love.

22. Watch a film that came out last year in 2023 that you haven't managed to see yet.

23. I looooveeee a good opening credits sequence. Whenever I see a new film and they hit you a cool af opening credits sequence, that right there is the shit. I love it. Watch a film you've not yet seen but have heard that its opening credits are really good.

24. The "It's A Mad, Mad. Mad. Mad World" poster is one of my favourite movie posters of all time, and I absolutely love that style of poster artwork. More films need to use that poster style. For this prompt, watch a film with a poster designed by Jack Davis.

25. Some of my favourite movies ever since I was a kid have been spy movies. Spy movies are soooo coool. Watch a spy movie.

26. Sci-Fi is a pretty cool genre, especially the stuff from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. All that weird production value, all that campiness and what not. I love it. Watch a weird sci-fi that was made around that time.

27. Been listening to a lot of the No Such Thing as A Bad Movie podcast recently. Very funny stuff, very haha and quite lmao at times as well. Always brings a smile to my face. Highly reccomend giving it a listen. Anyways, since I'm such a fan, for this prompt watch a film covered on the No Such Thing as A Bad Movie podcast.

28. I have sooo much nostalgia for VHS. I'm pretty sure I'm apart of the last generation who grew up with watching movies on VHS. Good times mate, good times. Watch a film from my Those films you always saw at the VHS or DVD store as a kid but never actually watched but you them because of the VHS or DVD covers list.

29. Where would my love for film and film discussion be were it not for the world famous darling of film criticism himself, the Nostalgia Critic. Everybody loves The Critic! How could you not? Sit back and relax and watch a film that has been reviewed by the Nostalgia Critic.

30. I enjoy rewatching movies, mainly movies I like of course, but from time to time I do like to give films that I wasn't huge on second chances. For this prompt, watch a film that you didn't like on your original viewing and see if your opinion of it changes.

31. PHYSICAL MEDIA!!! I loveeee physical media. I have a load of DVDs that I haven't even seen yet but I'm working through it. Watch a film from my Films I Have on DVD That I Haven’t Seen Yet list and for bonus points, see if you yourself can watch one of those films on DVD or any form of physical media as well!!

If you've chosen a film to watch for the DVD prompt and that film is no longer in my list of unwatched DVDs then you can still keep it on your list, don't worry about changing it. If it was there when this scavenger hunt list was posted then that's all good.

And don’t forget to tag your lists and reviews with 'Scavenger Hunt 112' so everyone can see everyone else’s lists so we can all see who’s watching what.

Yep.

👍👍👍👍

Additional prompts for if you can't find films to the fit the original prompts:

June 2024 301g Scavenger Hunt #111 (Completed) https://letterboxd.conexionsite.com/maciej_hutt/list/june-2024-scavenger-hunt-111-completed/ letterboxd-list-46625035 Thu, 16 May 2024 23:37:31 +1200 <![CDATA[

Progress - 30/30

I’m sooo excited to do another scavenger hunt. Really hope that this one ends up having some good film surprises for me.

Also, this is the first scavenger hunt I'm doing where there are no rewatches. All first time watches for this one and I am excited.

Original list and can be found here.

Prompts (taken from the original list):
01 - Thank you to Henry for being last month's host. Why don't we start by watching a film Henry rated 5 stars.

02 - Speaking of Scavenger Hunt, thank you to Wood for putting this together. In honor of Wood keeping this hunt alive, watch something from his Watchlist.

03 - As I said, I hosted back in October 2021, and many new people come to Scavenger Hunt every month. For this prompt choose a prompt of your choice from my list.

(Prompt used - Watch a movie based on an SNL character/sketch, or watch a movie with an actor/actress who were on SNL.)

04 - I'm an out and proud trans woman. Considering June is Pride month, watch a film by a transgender filmmaker or starring an actual trans person. Check out this extensive list by Leonora

05 - This year has been all about closing the loops on the stats page for as many as I can. It is the completionist in me. Don't have Pro or Patreon to see what you're missing, check out this list that has all the films listed on any of the stat pages.

(List used - Edgar Wright’s 1,000 Favorite Movies.)

06 - I am also in a lot of yearly challenges, as they help me find films that I might not otherwise come across. One of my favorite yearly challenges is the Queer Film Challenge. This prompt is another where you can pick your own prompt from this year's list.

(Prompt used - Watch a film directed by Joel Schumacher.)

07 - I am not a fan of sci-fi films or westerns. But these hunts are all about getting out of your comfort zone. Watch the most popular movie from a genre you do not like.

08 - Many of us do the scavenger hunt month after month, even if we do not finish it. Some people create a scavenger hunt graveyard for such films. If you do have a scavenger hunt graveyard list, watch a film from there, or you can watch one of mine (you can even pull from the description that shows which movies have been removed over the years).

09 - While listening to the audiobook "Inverse Cowgirl" by Alicia Roth Weigel, she made a good point about how the I and A of LGBTQIA are often replaced by a + when talking about LGBTQ+ individuals. Watch a movie with an intersex or asexual/aromantic character, actor, or themes.

10 - At the end of 2022 I was shocked how little of the films I watched were directed and/or written by women. I made it a goal to have over 50% of the films to be from a women writer and/or director, and somehow I achieved that. Watch a film from the Top 250 Women Directed films on LB or from the list of films I watched in 2023 that would fit the prompt.

11 - I have had my fair share of surgery, and watching videos how they are done is akin to body horror to me. I do not know why I watch them, but I find the human body and medical advancement fascinating. Watch a body horror film.

12 - Before the pandemic, I was dabbling in stand-up. Because stand-up as a profession does not translate well to film, you can either watch a film about stand-up comedy or watch a stand-up comedy special.

13 - Today is my birthday. OMG! This year is already going to be better, as I was in the hospital for surgery last year. Watch any movie I have ever logged on Letterboxd.

14 - One thing that is talked about often in the LGBTQIA community is the idea of "chosen family." Watch a film that centers around the theme of a chosen family or friendship.

15 - Discord is a great community, and there are several other than the Scavenger Hunt Discord that I am part of. One of the liveliest is the Oscar Death Race server, where we all try to watch every nominated film every year (and some people will even watch all the shortlisted films). So, in honor of this server watch any film that was nominated for an Oscar in any category.

16 - Another Discord server I am on used to have a podcast called Tubi Talk. You can watch a film they covered on the podcast, or choose from the craziness that Tubi has to offer as the bottomless pit of films available on a streaming service.

17 - Okay, final prompt from one of my Discord servers. But, because I received a couple of great suggestions, I used the wheel of names to choose, and the prompt is to watch a Taiwanese film.

18 - During the pandemic I decided to go to college, even at my older age. Why not, right? It's never too late to start over. Watch a film about someone who makes a life-changing decision in their 40s or later.

19 - While Letterboxd is international, in the States today is Juneteenth. Watch a film by a Black director or a documentary on the history of Black liberation in the United States.

20 - As stated in the opening, this is my second time hosting this hunt. In honor of this being my second time, watch the second movie in a franchise where you have only watched the first film.

21 - Oh, it has been a while since we did something in relation to Pride Month happening in June. So, watch an LGBTQIA film from before you were born. This list might be helpful.

22 - I am a defender of ska music. Watch a movie with a ska band on the soundtrack. If you don't know what bands these might be, here is a partial list of ska musicians from the 50s to present day. And here is a list from Reddit. Worst case scenario, learn more about the genre with documentaries Dance Craze or Pick it Up: Ska in the 90s.

23 - My love of film started when I worked in a movie theater between 1997 and 1998. Watch a film released during those two years.

24 - It is 2024, which baffles me. Growing up the year 2000 seemed so far away and now we are almost a quarter century into this century. This is just a long way of saying this prompt is to watch a film from this year. Original, I know.

25 - I love a "good" bad movie, and maybe that's why Neil Breen follows me on Twitter. Last time I did a prompt for movies on How Did This Get Made, so this time choose a movie from The Most Controversial Films on Letterboxd list.

26 - Due to having a lot of yearly challenges and wanting to close as many of the stat loops, I created a list with every film I would have to watch in 2024 to complete everything at 100%. It won't happen, but I will make a dent. Watch a film from my 2024 to be Watched list.

27 - Today is International Pineapple Day. For this prompt, watch a film that centers around swinging (IYKYK), and since there do not seem to be many, you can also include throuples, polyamory, or ethical non-monogamy. A possible helpful list.

28 - Okay, last Pride month prompt, I promise. There is such a rich history of the LGBTQIA community. Watch a documentary featuring LGBTQIA stories, people, or history. A helpful list.

29 - If you are like me, your watchlist is getting out of control (I'm just under 5k -- Yikes). Watch a film from your watchlist. If you do not keep a watchlist, watch one from mine.

30 - We are at the end of the month. I know I talked a lot about Pride Month in these prompts, but there are other things to be proud of. Think of something you are proud of when it comes to your own identity or culture and find a film related to that.

If you want to substitute any of the prompts, these are substitution prompts you can use as often as you want to replace the prompts that I came up with:

--Watch a film directed by a woman
--Watch a film from the 🌈Pride: A Chronological History of Queer Interest & LGBTQ+ Cinema list.
--Watch a film from my 2024 to be Watchedlist.
--Watch a movie that was mentioned in the documentary Disclosure or watch that documentary.
--Watch a film by a transgender writer and/or director

..........

Prompt 18 has been replaced with "Watch a film directed by a woman".

Yi Yi has been replaced with Goodbye, Dragon Inn because DVDs for Yi Yi are very, very expensive.

  1. Wizards
  2. Police Story 3: Super Cop
  3. I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry
  4. Heaven's Gate
  5. Serpico
  6. The Lost Boys
  7. Society of the Snow
  8. The Edge of Seventeen
  9. Sleeping with Other People
  10. A League of Their Own

Progress - 31/31

you know the drill 👍👍.

6 rewatches and 25 first time watches. I wanna watch a good amount of Christmas films as well during December so I'll see if I can balance the two. God help me.

Link to original list - boxd.it/qkG2y/detail

  1. Sorry to Bother You

Watch a movie with an actor from The Walking Dead. Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun stars in the film.

My favorite eras are the best, Attitude Era (1997-2002) and the Ruthless Aggression Era (2002-2008). And, before anyone pretends to care, my favorite is Mick Foley 🧦! Watch a movie with a wrestler from one of those two eras.

*I don't think I need to say which (retired) wrestler stars in this particular film lol.

  7. Zoolander

Watch a movie with an actor the host has only tagged once.

    *Tagged actor, Jerry Stiller.

  8. Champions

(From the host) 2023 is almost over and I’ve come to learn I have not seen that many movies from this year. And I blame terrible marketing, not me being stupid… Watch a movie that came out this year (2023, duh…).

  9. The Grinch

(From the host) For awhile, I tried catching up to Chris in of the amount of movies he’s watched. That being in the 5,000… and even though I was watching three or four a day, I just couldn’t catch up! I don’t know how he does it, but he does it. Watch a movie that Chris has seen.

  10. Ikiru

Watch a movie made in Japan.

September 2023 5w6g5n Scavenger Hunt #102 (Completed) https://letterboxd.conexionsite.com/maciej_hutt/list/september-2023-scavenger-hunt-102-completed/ letterboxd-list-36432988 Fri, 18 Aug 2023 20:34:22 +1200 <![CDATA[

My second scavenger hunt. I’ll do my best to watch at least one film a day but if I’m busy during the many weeks of September then I might use weekends to watch multiple films which seems fair.

I’m mainly sticking to films I’ve not seen yet, with The Blues Brothers being the only film on this list that I’ll be rewatching and I’m fine with that because I love that film. So yeah. Scavenger Hunt #102. Wicked cool mate!

The only prompt I swapped was the Charlie Chaplin one as I watched multiple Charlie Chaplin films earlier this year. I changed that one to the “Watch a movie that was released when either your mother/father were 16 years old!” prompt.

I swapped Something Wild with Matinee as the former was taken off Amazon Prime and was not available for me to rent. I also swapped The Edge of Seventeen with Fun Size as the former was taken off streaming. Little Women was swapped with Lifeforce because I wanted to watch Lifeforce more. Half Nelson was swapped with The Great Debaters. The Great Debaters was swapped with In & Out because I just ed that that film existed and I wanted to watch it more by comparison. God, this starting to read like a bloody joke now isn’t it. Oh well.

For this Scavenger Hunt I think I’ll watch the films in no particular order, I feel like that might be more fun. If any of these films are to be watched on particular days then I’ll watch those films on those particular days. But besides that, I’ll watch these films at random and I’m actually quite excited.

Anyways, here’s the prompts from the original creator of this month’s Scavenger Hunt.

The Prompts:

1. I'd like to kick off this month, with you picking a movie from my personal top 4. I know, I know, not a lot of choice to start off with, but hear me out! My top 4 has had a profound impact on my life. I think it would be absolutely amazing to hear your thoughts on one of them, even if you didn't like it! Don't worry though, YOUR top 4 will get a chance to shine at the end of the month too! Part of the fun is what we take away from each movie. So to help guide you towards a decision, I'll briefly describe why each movie had a profound impact on me. Don't worry, there's no spoilers!

A. "I Origins": This is my current favorite of all time. It's a thought provoking, hauntingly beautiful film that completely changed the way I view life! It made me question everthing I had ever known and STILL throws me through a loop everytime I view it. Choose this if you're in need of an EXPERIENCE!

B. "Dear Zachary": I'm going to slap a big fat warning on this one. Try not to look at the reviews or trailer, it is best watched completely blind. And oh yeah, this documentary is NOT for the faint of heart. I had to pause multiple times to sob and gather myself to continue. When it ended, I had a full on mental breakdown. Never have I ever experienced something quite like this. I will NEVER forget it and I will advocate that everyone should watch it at least once!

C. "Hamilton": I do not typically enjoy musicals all that much, but Hamilton is the exception. It combines multiple styles of music (mostly hip hop) in telling the story of Hamilton and the Founders using a diverse cast. I watched it in 2020 and every year since, it somehow still holds the crown on my Spotify for most listened to. Choose this if you need a pick me up and are in the mood for dancing! 🕺

D. "Freedom Writers": I saw this as a kid and it inspired me to be an English Teacher. Most teachers credit Dead Poets Society for inspiring them, I credit Freedom Writers! It's a true story as well! If you want something uplifting, choose this. Later in the month, there is a prompt for educators, so feel free to hang onto this movie for that prompt!*E. "The Perks of Being a Wallflower": This is my most recent 5 star film. If none of the movies above interest you, perhaps this one will? It's possibly my favorite coming of age film out there! Didn't expect I'd like it as much as I did going into it. I wanted to include it in this list because it DESERVES to be here!

2. In 2018, I I woke up one day with a mysterious condition and wasn't diagnosed until mid 2023! Feel free to head on over to the bio on my profile to learn more about my rare condition! 5. Charlie Chaplin is one of my favorite actors because his comedies are timeless! During some scenes, I will hurt so bad from laughing! It's quite spectacular how his 100+ year old movies can be funny even today! He's a great intro to people who have never watched or do not particularly enjoy silent films. Watch a movie starring Charlie Chaplin!

6. The AI revolution is upon us and I've been absolutely amazed at its capablities! Ask ChatGPT, Snapchat's My AI, Bing AI or any other AI to suggest you a movie based on your Letterboxd top 4! If it gives you a movie you've already seen, keep asking for another until it gives you one you haven't seen!

8. Now let's do the same for Universal Studios Orlando!

9. "Freedom Writers" had a profound impact on me as a kid and is the film I credit with inspiring me to become a high school English teacher! Watch a movie about a teacher!

10. Since I teach English, it's only fitting to watch a movie inspired by the works of Shakespeare! *Hint: Sort by Popular to get some more well known adaptations!*

12. I'm a huge WWE fan! Watch a movie starring one of these three legends from my childhood: John Cena, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson or Dave Bautista!

13. I'd be remiss if I didn't dedicate at least one of these prompts to my best friend, Abby. She is my loyal, 13 year old, sidekick of a pug! She's been with me throughout so many life events and has been the only constant in my life. Unfortunatley, my time with her is running out, so I'd like to immortalize her in the annals of Letterboxd Scavenger Hunts! In her name, I'd like you to honor your pet(s) by watching a movie that stars the species/breed of YOUR pet!

14. I sometimes like searching for rare films that NONE of the people I follow have seen! Watch a movie that is on rarefilmm.com! Extra points for finding one that none of your mutuals have rated! Here is a Letterboxd list of movies on rarefilmm.com

17. If you haven't realized yet, one of my favorite features on Letterboxd are lists! Let's all watch a movie from this list: Top 250 Films with the Most Fans

18. Random movie time! The universe shall pick what you watch today! Go to the Random Movie Roulette and go to the filters on the top right. Sort by "Shuffle" and then choose the decade after the one you were born in! (For example, 80s babies choose the 90s. 90s babies choose the 00s.) Save your filter and pick the 18th movie it gives you!

19. Everyone has watched a movie that made them cringe at some point or another (I'm looking at you, Twilight). Watch a movie that is considered to be cringeworthy by many people or any movie rated less than a 2.3 on Letterboxd.Note: You can go to the Random Movie Roulette and "Sort By" lowest average rating!20. Let's phone a friend for.

20! Ask a friend or family member to reccommend you a favorite film of theirs that you haven't seen!

21. Because of the Hamilton musical, I became obsessed with early American history, especially Presidential History. I'm currently reading one biography of every President starting with Washington. I've learned so much about early American history by doing this! Like how Benjamin Franklin wrote an essay called "Fart Proudly". Anyways, watch a movie covering any American historical event or person prior to 2000.*This can be anything from early Native settlers, American Revolution, Civil War, Slavery, World Wars, Space Race or even specific people that made significant contributions to American society like Oppenheimer, JFK, MLK, Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, etc.

22. Watch the first movie of a film franchise you've never seen, or continue a franchise you haven't entirely finished!

23. Today is the first day of autumn! Watch a movie that is set in the beautiful season of fall!

25. Another list?! Heck yeah! Let's watch a movie where you're not the same person once the film has finished!

26. It's a day for you! Watch a movie from your watchlist!

27. I love music! In fact, I am "theidolguy" on TikTok and have over 600k followers, which is still crazy to me! I cover American Idol performances new/old and when the season airs, I get in front of the camera myself and give breakdowns, personal opinions and predictions! Pick a movie that is centered around music! *Bonus points if an American Idol alum stars in it!

28. On this day last year, my city was directly hit by Hurricane Ian. I was out of power for a whole week and the damage it did to my community was devastating. I driving around my neighborhood the day after to assess things and the utter destruction it left behind, rendered me speechless. I became emotional looking at the city I grew up in, torn to pieces. But I also witnessed people come together and help one another out! Watch a movie about a devastating weather event, natural disaster, or apocalyptic event!

29. I'm sure October's Scavenger Hunt will have some spoopy movies, so let's watch a comfort movie for our penultimate prompt!

30. Well here we are, we've reached the end! I just wanted to say I've had an absolute blast hosting this month! These Scavenger Hunt's have done so much for my mental health. My health journey has been filled with so many challenges and having these hunts have been a godsend. They've allowed me to escape and transport myself to other worlds! Not only that, but I've watched movies I normally wouldn't have EVER watched.

So for #30 let's end it similar to how we started! Jim Dale's role in 1977's Pete's Dragon has been one of my favourite perfomances in any film ever for quite a while. Seeing someone from a Carry On film star as a Disney villain is just surreal to me and I love it. So I wanted to make a list of non Carry On films that starred main and/or notable ing cast from the British Carry On comedy film franchise.

And yes, I do plan to rewatch all 31 of the Carry On films sometime soon. Even those ones.

  1. Night and the City

  3. A Canterbury Tale

  5. The Thief and the Cobbler
  6. The Ladykillers
  7. Comrades
  8. The Lavender Hill Mob
  9. Oliver Twist
  10. Morrissey - Hulmerist
