Sorry but I found this one cold and emotionally distant. It's comes off as a form of disconnected absurdist tableau. Even the progression of the narrative logic around the diminishing food stocks felt underdeveloped. The photography however was a high point. Imagine a depressed Elia Suleiman film. 2.5 stars
Great concept and premise with decent acting that seems to fall down somewhere in the last third. It feels like it wants to be trickier as it's plotted like a thriller but ends up being about the actual 'weakness of a director for her leading man' which is stated blatantly at the start. 3 stars
Impressive in it's fresh and poetic approach to a musing on violence, cruelty and survival A nagy füzet is at times difficult to watch but provides much food for thought. I found the digital aesthetic and CG effects disconnecting from the reality but was pleasantly surprised by some of the later narrative turns in particular with Grandma. Worth a watch. 3.5 stars
It's a kid's film about a paper aeroplane competition that's pretty much perfectly paced, funny, highly emotional and very well written. This is genre film-making at it's best that had many an adult pulling back the tears and happily rooting for the hero. Great stuff! 4.5 stars
