a movie to rewatch on a cool overcast saturday.  the camera is so well settled for just the right amount of time you need. loved the train tracks, their apartment, Noe’s chonky cat hind legs, a lone fart, Lionel’s face as he walks towards Rene, wonderful images

incredible how well this movie captures such a complex institution and its many systems functioning all at once. of course it’s only the tip of the iceberg but the way he navigates all of these everyday moments in the classroom, in a corner of campus, or at the Chancellor’s office to help convey the energy and power of an institution is poetic and inspiring. when I stepped out of the movie i couldn’t help but try and give my energy toward observing the world around me like Wiseman does

a deceptively composed hullabaloo of story, sound, and sight. the themes slip in and sit with you longer than you’d expect. i’d like to watch again to see how differently you can absorb things

beautiful images that evoke the feeling of the past and present merging as one. i always get the feeling time is both slowing down and speeding right past us when watching an Ozu movie
