The first of the collaborations between director Joseph Zito and make up effects artist Tom Savini. Pretty mean, nasty slasher film that pulls zero punches when it comes to the gruesome, graphic murder set pieces. That is the film's main strength and I'd say this ranks up there among Savini's best work in the field. That nude pitchfork kill in the shower though! A nice, quiet, and surprisingly reserved, classic-styled supernatural ghost horror film from John Carpenter, with an equally subdued and awesome score by himself and some beautiful scope cinematography by Dean Cundey.
