These early Bergman films are interesting to watch as it feels like he is still fleshing out his craft, which ultimately lead up to masterpieces about 15 years later. The narrative in this one is a bit jumbled but there are smatterings of Bergman’s future genius throughout to make it interesting. For me, Summer Interlude was the movie that shifted to cohesive, complex characters in his films - I imagine a lot of this came with his own maturity in aging / life experiences.
