"Be careful what you wish for, Parker."
Despite the fact $200 million was poured into this and the visuals don't quite stand up to scrutiny, in fact, it might be one of the ugliest blockbusters in existence but it's saved by a totally committed cast plus there is a great deal of genuine heart in this, especially in the end. Sure, some of it is certainly nostalgia bait, but I took it and I can see this does have its own merits. It doesn't nearly reach the heights Into the Spider-Verse did but it's a really enjoyable escapist blockbuster. Andrew Garfield is worth at least a star here, I'd love to see him in the suit once again and more in the future. Of course, I grew up with Tobey's Spider-Man and I did have a stupid smile on my face when he appeared. I like his performance here, but feels like he's not totally interested in it, and it fits with his character. Anyways, fun time! Not among MCU's best but a real fun time.
Now, can we get a director that has actual personality behind the camera? I genuinely forget who directs these movies, it's just incredibly anonymous, and it's always a stark contrast with Raimi's signatures all over his Spider-Man trilogy.
