Writing could have been lot better

First of all, what a stellar of a cast that was. Everyone where pin-point perfect..

I absoultely loved the inital 40 mins of the film. The innocence of Mohanlal, with that falvoured malayalam style was just too good for me..

But, when the film picks up the story and begins to move forward, it becomes an adequate watch. Felt like they dragged too much and the twist and turns were very much preditable

When KH - Crazy Mohan team up, nothing but a crazy ride..

Still the writing feels fresh and ofc the performances

Nani as always fab, blood shed sequences were great and certain nuances in characterisation worked..

Rest never worked. HIT is all about the investigation thriller. This was more of action drama, which didn't work also.

A weaked Nani film in recent times for me

It not about boys making films for their ion

It is about boys growing as they age, understanding life and knowing the value of people around them

That was beautiful

The first half hour was entirely slow.. I almost gave up watching, like nothing was happening anything

But the last hour made the experience that i will never forget.. So deep, so connected and so heartful

Yes, it has been fictionsed heavily from the reality, but as a film it works a lot

But fitting finale to one of the goated franchise.. enjoyed a lot

I really like the way Prithviraj builds his world..

Yes it is very slow and takes all the time in the world but that makes him unique..

Now, he is making me look forward to his next directorial

When i feel deatched from watching films for some time, cinema doesn't leave me.

Afterall, it just tries to refelect why i love cinema so muchh, and nothing can even come close to it.

Throughly loved Tourist family to the core.. It is just my kinda of genre made it to perfect.

There are few flaws where the director's dramatical flashback didn't work for me, but important though. The inital police scene are so clichee and organic tamil cinema

But rest, man what a killer of a casting. And Sean one again with Million dollars delivers.

A heartwaring tale with nuanced writing is world's best genre for me.

Nothing matters most to me than that. Nothing makes me special than watching a film like this

Not a Karthik Subbaraj film i expected

But suriya is fab though, only saving grace..

Terffic Terffic one line, that is socially such a power and thought provoking line

But the full potential have't been used potentially. The scenes lacks emotional chord, that guts our throat. The dailogues, which could have been so powerful, is just simple.

The climax monologue should have been carrying through the film.

And whatsoever, they ing together in the end doesn't make sense.

Insane one liner for a story ... Very Very intriguing

The crux of the story itself is goood and fun as it sounds. The jokes at most parts do land at right moment, mostly double meaning given the premise.

What works more is the casting. Every character are hand-picked so suitably to the roles.

The film works when it just wants to be entertaining, but fall flat when it movies to emotions of the character.

The climax strect, and new characters doesn't really sit well.

Yet, decent entertainer.

What a storyline and rest the typical Malayalam narrative drives forward

A perfect balance of Bollywood romance that was missing for a long time

Ofc, the film is very fanatasy. Things happening there doesn't make sense, it is set in very very 'elite' backdrop. But we all know that is what the film going to offer just after seeing the lead actors.

Keeping this aside, as a film, just the entertainment part, i was enagaged. Was a fun watch for me.

How often do you go for a film on the second day but end up watching the first-day first show? 😂

Sabdham, which was supposed to release yesterday, was delayed due to KDM issues. I had booked my ticket earlier and thought the show would be canceled. But no, man, never. Luckily, they started the first show with the one I had booked for the second day. KARMA.

Okay, now to the film.

I'm a huge, huge fan of Arivazhagan and, of course, the genre. And Sabdham didn’t disappoint.

A very genre-specific film that never disrespects its essence.

More than the story and writing, the film is technically strong, a sound driven horror that was amazing to witness on the big screen.

In of writing, the first half holds a strong grip on what it wants to be. The thrills, twists, and turns work well, as expected from the filmmaker. The second half, though lacking conviction and overly stretched, still makes for a decent watch.

The major problem, however, lies in the characters. Except for Aadhi, nobody has a proper arc. They appear, do something for the story, and disappear. The final reveal felt the same, it didn’t excite me at all.

Yet, I still liked it. The ideas are fresh. In fact, despite being a horror film, Arivazhagan attempted something unique, no jump scares at all. Experimental filmmaking with his signature touch made it a very good watch for me.

A biopic that is so different in how it has been presented.

The rise of a folk singer’s story, but it’s not about his struggle or his love—it’s about the freedom he has to do what he wants to do.

A very narrowly focused character drama. The film is extremely slow, where music amplifies the emotions. But the politically backed, strong content shines through the ion of one man.

It was an exciting watch for me.

Every time I watch Oh My Kadavule, I ire how beautifully a fantasy idea cohesively blends into a rom-com.

That’s the only reason I was so excited for Dragon. With unanimous positive word of mouth, my expectations were certainly raised.

But after watching it, it turned out to be a huge disappointment.

I know many people are confused about this, but please take the time to read my thoughts on how poorly the film was written.

Dragon is, in spirit, very similar to Oh My Kadavule. Both explore redemption and the concept of a second chance. If OMK was about love, Dragon is about life itself.

However, the problem lies in the ideas that aren’t politically or logically well thought out.

I never understood the message they were trying to convey. And if they did have one, they failed to deliver it effectively.

Pradeep’s character, Raghavan, doesn’t make sense at any point. In the first 30 minutes, he is portrayed as a rebellious student who doesn’t follow rules, lies, cheats, and has 48 arrears. Then, he gets a job unethically, and suddenly, overnight, he changes and starts learning everything. How? A person’s change is understandable and even appreciable, but not in such an unrealistic, overnight transformation. Just two days ago, he was one of the bad-ass guy. The problem is that while the director shows Raghavan making mistakes, he constantly portrays him in a positive light, unintentionally making cheating seem acceptable.

Then there’s Anupama’s character. She leaves Dragon because he was a total douche, he didn’t care about anyone and was just using her. So, Anupama leaving Pradeep was the right decision. Yet, in the second half, she reappears and feels guilty for leaving him. Why? That guy treated her terribly; she did the right thing. Why is the film trying to validate Pradeep’s actions?

Next is Pradeep’s parents. He lies to them about college, his job, money, basically everything in the first half. Then, they disappear for most of the second half, only to reappear in the climax when the truth is revealed. And what happens? They just slap him once and take him back as if nothing happened.

Kayadu Lohar’s character adds little to the story. She exists as a love interest, with an unnecessarily dragged-out dating sequence. And in the climax, when everything is revealed, the one person who should have had a strong reaction doesn’t even get a dialogue? Then what was the point of building up that scene?

The film also objectifies women frequently, just for entertainment. The sad part is that these scenes are normalised and even enjoyed by the audience. Most of the jokes revolve around this, and even when Pradeep’s character tries to distance himself from such situations, it is dramatised in a way that hardly provides any laughs.

There is also an excessive emphasis on making every scene overly dramatic, with exaggerated music, acting, and staging.

For me, a film should either be fully entertaining, without worrying about political correctness, or it should make complete sense without taking things lightly. Dragon tries to do both but fails miserably at both. They wanted it to be entertaining while also being politically correct, but unfortunately, they failed in both aspects.

With a slow start and no idea on where it was heading, it was middiling start. Later, the films turns around in a mintue.

The setup of 30 mins is justified with unpredectible turns, with things chaotically intriguing to the core.

Yet, it drops at some places with cliche as we narrative sets in.

Whatsoever said, worth a watch still

First 90 mins cringe max, toxicity to the core, what's so never no logic

But the characters, and their romance got mee.

Last one hour, though dramatic, but complety broke me 💔 .. love stories like these 😭❤️

Man mixed all the ingredients of Lokesh Kanagaraj, but ended up cooking it decently

Don't care about logic, throughly engaged first half let down by a overly drawn second half

Cillian and Amy going all out, that was treat to watch

It's has dumb characters, dumb story, dumb screenplay.

But man, what the hell was that violence??

I always thought no bloodshed could beat Kill Bill, but this was extreme, mad extreme. I've never looked away while watching a film, no matter how violent or even a proper horror movie.

But this was disgusting to the core, especially the last 40 minutes, it was completely insane.

In TN, we file cases against Loki for too much violence, but one needs to watch this. The director here is absolutely mad.

Technically, the film is brilliant. Shoutout to the cinematographer and action choreographer.

The problem for me isn’t the violence itself, it's the creative freedom of a director. But what he tried to do here was just make a bloodbath as extreme as possible. He didn’t care about anything else.

A lot to process

The film has a lot of good takeaways, but just one question, does a film become good just because it takes on subjects that are often not discussed in the mainstream?

Cinema is a structure that integrates beautiful ideas into a script—a story backed by a strong screenplay. Fragmented pieces of ideas alone cannot carry a film.

Vinay's character is gay. The best part is that the film normalises it, doesn’t give any extra focus on that. Great. But is Vinay in the film just for that? We literally don’t know anything about him beyond that, and halfway through the film, he disappears.

Ravi Mohan doesn’t want kids. He doesn’t believe in the idea of marriage and love. And all of a sudden, he sees Nithya Menon and sings a duet?

That said, the first half works. It tries to convey something, even though it crams everything into one stretch. But the second half has nothing new to offer, it just becomes repetitive, rehashing what we’ve seen over the years.

Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi’s intentions are good, but a film is more than that. Most of the time, the performances feel overdone, and the writing doesn’t cohesively fit together. She needs to improve a lot as a filmmaker.

Shane Nigam deserved much better Tamil debut

Right from the word go, VidaaMuyarchi surprises me at every possible moment. First, it was the breathtaking visuals a definite step up, raising Tamil cinema to the next level. Magizh's way of blending locations with storytelling makes him a rare gem.

Now, moving on to the writing. It is a proper slow-burn thriller that invests heavily in its characters to do the work. A procedural thriller that doesn't deviate even for a minute.

The initial 30-minute romance portion takes its time, but it is charming and sets up beautifully for what is yet to come.

Also, considering an actor like Ajith and having Trisha as his pair, where they are married, but Trisha's character is having an affair with another man, Ajith's character understands it. He is, of course, disappointed, but he doesn't get angry or shame her. This is the best part of VidaaMuyarchi. Not just this, but his character is one of the most deeply well-written ones in Tamil cinema in a very long time. He is mature and preserves his humanity even during his worst nightmares. And at no point does he want to kill someone. Even when he picks up a gun, there is a consciousness to shoot below the knee. Whenever characters accidentally die, he feels bad for them.

The twists land really well. The interval works, but the thought that keeps coming back to me is how much more memorable the film could have been if it didn't have an interval, a proper Hollywood-style edge-of-the-seat thriller.

And then, just when Magizh broke all stereotypes, he threw it all away in the last couple of minutes. Why, man, why?

Despite this, I really, really enjoyed VidaaMuyarchi. Staying true to the story, staying true to the character, AK, take a bow.

Game Changer – I genuinely feel bad about how great content can be mishandled, resulting in a disappointing output.

Karthick Subbaraj’s one-liner about the Chief Electoral Officer taking on the CM is absolutely brilliant.

The film does have some highly entertaining, classic Shankar moments. The interval block is peak Shankar style, Ram Charan’s mid-dance sequence is grand and eccentric, and Jayaram and SJ Suryah’s one-liners land well amidst the chaos.

However, apart from a brilliant core story and a handful of standout moments, the film feels bland in many places. While logical inconsistencies are acceptable, the lack of emotional depth is not, this isn’t the Shankar we grew up with. The second half is mindless, with the Anjali character being particularly so bad.

Shankar has immense potential, Indian 2 had it too, but he keeps falling into the trap of clinging to outdated norms from the '90s.

That said, Game Changer is undeniably brainless and often nonsensical. Yet, it has a few moments that I thoroughly enjoyed.
