Brian De Palma’s love letter to Alfred Hitchcock is a beautiful thing to witness. It remains arguably the gold standard for how to direct an action spy thriller. The computer terminal scene is a true “the pupil has become the master” moment, one that I think we've come to take for granted. An added bonus is that it tells a complete story in under two hours, and it’s funny to think we ever allowed these movies to run longer than that. The pacing of this thing is chef’s kiss.

This is 12 Monkeys for the jocks. The science fiction is hackneyed, and the action scenes are edited into oblivion, but the mid-’90s tech vibes are intoxicating, and there’s a Tommy Wiseau sex scene in here. I can’t hate it.
