Space Is the Place

1974

★★★★ Watched

North American Star System/1974
Directed by John Coney

Freestyle jazz in film form could possibly be the best description I could give a movie like this, and I think I'm not far off. Space is the Place is very avant-garde with its presentation and futurist themes, as it may have come from outer space itself. I can only say this: whatever the filmmakers were on, I want some. I can dig it.

Frozen II

2019

★★★½ Watched

Disney/2019
Directed by Jennifer Lee, Chris Buck

Visually, Frozen II is more impressively stunning than the original film, as this is some of the most beautiful, striking animation I've seen on film. However, I feel it didn't have that same spark and magic that made it a blockbuster to begin with, and that's with the story, songs and Olaf not shutting the hell up. Still a decent flick, and that said, Kristoff's song with the reindeer was pretty damn funny.

Warner Bros./1975
Directed by Arthur Penn

An early film in the late Gene Hackman's acting career, Night Moves showed off how much he nailed the hard-nosed detective role four years before The French Connection. The film itself, made by the director of the controversial Bonnie & Clyde, is a solid neo-noir about a PI who thinks he knows the game, but finds out the rules are consistantly changing.

Universal, Dreamworks/2024
Directed by Chris Sanders

Once again, director Chris Sanders uses the art of animation to create unconventional yet inspiring, feel-good stories. The Wild Robot is up there with his 2002 film Lilo & Stitch as one of his best. There's just something about his films that can hit a guy in the emotional gut.
