American Jihad

2017

★★★ Liked Watched

American Jihad is a multi-person insight of radical Islam's rise in popularity, in the West. I do feel it is much too restraint, and it tries to play the Islamic mainstream off as being rather innocent and tame in comparison to the more radical side.

Here I will demonstrate why this is not only too restraint, but it plays into the dangerous ignorance responsible for the ongoing discourse.

Political Islam (Islamism) is probably the biggest threat to the West. For…

Dracula Untold

2014

★★★½ Liked Watched

As an irer of the history of Vlad Tepes, it comes as no surprise that I would enjoy this more than those who don't care for it.
Whilst not a reliable source of the history of Vlad (Vlad The Impaler), it provides a minimal explanation, which is enough here.

Dracula Untold took a big lunge and separated itself from all other Dracula installments/adaptations. Usually, filmmakers of movies today will just use IPs and franchises to bait viewers into watching their…

Talk to Me

2022

★★★★ Watched

Talk to Me is really good. The hand sequences are so fucking entertaining and fun, not to mention that they are unrelenting. There’s really not much else to say for this review, just go watch it!

Something I just found out is that this was made by RackaRacka, two brothers, who I’ve known for over a decade from their YouTube videos, which were inventive and nonsensical fun (haven’t watched them in many years now though). They’ve done well to move…

Doghouse

2009

★★½ Watched

Doghouse is a relatively fun movie, if nothing else. You aren’t missing anything by skipping it, and pretty much any movie you come by will be better than Doghouse.

Captain America: The First Avenger

2011

★★★★ Watched

Not my favourite Captain America movie, but probably second in line. The First Avenger is a satisfying origin story. I didn’t recall it being this mature and graphic (which I really liked) in comparison to other MCU movies. A particular moment attesting to the more graphic visuals would be when a Hydra member’s body is chopped to pieces by the spinning thing outside of a plane.

Overall, The First Avenger is just a simple and cosy movie.

The Shining

1980

★★★★★ Watched

“Midnight, the Stars and You” is such a banger.

The Shining isn’t amongst my top 5 horror movies, as it is for many others. That being said, I still cannot deny it is a masterpiece that every horror fan should watch at least once. Stanley Kubrick worked his magic once again, I only wish he delved more into the horror genre.

The best aspect of The Shining for me is the oddly familiar but strange atmosphere of the hotel. It’s both beautifully and hauntingly liminal.
