This is not a movie for trans people, it's a movie for cis people to feel good about feeling bad for a trans character.

I love movies playing in Berlin, especially if they offer a window into the recent past of the streets i walk on the daily. The inherent atmosphere and flairs of places, the associations and politics of class, migration, sexuality, gentrification and their respective histories that pop into my head when i see Tiergarten, Hermannplatz, SO36, Wannsee add such a strong undertone of meaning to the story, which is already so layered and sensitive to so many issues. Deserves to be seen and talked about more!
I know that's easy to say but the film falls short on so many of the themes the book touches, like race/colonialism, class, and gender. It just felt a little too tame, too conventional for a book that experimental and philosophical.
The spider woman as trans woman (or vice versa) is still an eternal favorite tho. Every woman is a picture of a picture in a dream.
